  1. Mogs trailer hiab making ivy clad trees easier to remove.
  2. Just curious Stephen why do you base tie mostly? Do you use it mainly for access then change over to drt once in the tree.? I only base tie when I can’t isolate a high anchor point from the deck, and generally change to a tip tie once I’m in. Also the xstatic is a great rope. It’s very hard wearing and 60m is plenty of rope for uk trees. What device / hitch are you running on it? Cheers geoff
  3. Don’t think it is, I was told when I bought mine that it wasn’t but I’m sure someone may of tried it.? Although if your climbing srt you shouldn’t really need a splice.
  4. Messy windblown pop today that had hung up on a stand of lime and took out a sweet chestnut into the mix aswell, nice compression and tension jenga to puzzle to work out
  5. Lime reduction took 2.5 hours. I’ve booked them in already 🤪
  6. As a self taught srt climber I found it hard to transition from drt at first but persisted with it and eventually found it easy. There are more options and less effort to move around the Crown. When you first start you will find you only learn once you are thinking about it after the climb. Try and use only a chest ascender and foot Ascender to access the crown and try to isolate the best anchor point to access the crown initially. It’s more about balance and Tending slack than holding your weight on drt. It’s worth pursuing as it will prolong your climbing career and improve it
  7. Go out with someone who climbs srt to show you the best ways to access the canopy and work the crown
  8. Huntingdon train station clearance works this week
  9. I think It looks high because it’s on a bit of a slope, but once the hoppers open it’s pretty low and easy to feed. Tried to stick a better pic on to show you with the hopper down but can’t find one. Hopefully this gives you an idea.

  11. How do sunshine long time no see, hope your all good and getting on well. Give me a shout if your near the midlands and we can catch up. [emoji108]
  12. Akimbo on xstatic. Smooth on a clean dry rope, a bit jumpy on a wet rope once bedded in and doesn’t like Sap too much other than that lovely to climb on and mid line detachable. Bulldog bone on cougar blue or orange non CE version rope, same as the akimbo but tends like a knot for a mechanical device. Lovely to climb on and bulletproof, also mid line detachable. Zig zag and chicane smooth as silk to run as you would expect I prefer the smaller zig zag to the new one as it’s less bulky. As the set up is quite long with the chicane attached. Not midline detachable. And not as compact or user friendly as the two systems above ive found. Rock exotica unicender, lovely on the line smooth ascending, compact device but a bit sketchy descending and you will wear it out quick bombing out of trees. Hitch climber and rope wrench same as zig zag and chicane but no way near as smooth on the line. Kevin Binghams rope runner / Notch rope runner same as akimbo and bone just a slightly larger system. Also midline detachable. Keep it simple and you won’t go wrong. Find someone local with a few devices and have a go on them. I prefer the bone or akimbo over all the others. Hope this helps
  13. I’d buy one. Looks great, well made, and keeps all the kit safe while on site. Standard half decent canopy’s are around £1500 anyway so it would be money well spent in the long run. I’d be happy to spec it up how I want it aswell. Plus you get the added bonus of removing it when changing trucks. You should do a base model then design interiors to go in as optional extras to spec it up. And offer bespoke. Good luck
  14. Hi Is there anyone around northants, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire area that is interested in milling some big oaks on a Bedfordshire estate.? If so message me and I’ll put you in contact. Many thanks Geoff
  15. Shliesing are brilliant chippers. There is a reason they hold their price and they are built to last regardless of age. I own a 400u front mount. The tw230 is s brilliant chipper but you will wear it out. As it’s not durable enough to cope with the size of infeed it’s been given. We wore ours out in 1000 hours. On a tracked machine. The reason I got a tracked was because I thought the weight issue wasn’t relevant so they would use more metal on the tracked machine. But they don’t. Private work with occasional commercial work is fine. The tw280 is also very good. This is what I have upgraded my tracked machine and road tow too. So far so good. Although Timberwolf need to put the older roller box springs back on as they are much tougher than the current ones and would pull anything through whereas the softer springs don’t snap as much but don’t grip as well. The Greenmechs. I haven’t used much but the ones I have I wasn’t impressed with. They seem bodged, and tinny and I see a lot of things on them that I could re-design and improve instantly. The forst chippers are good chippers but for resale value I would go Timberwolf over forst. The forst tracks are too narrow on the tr8 and the centre of gravity seems too top heavy and not as squat as the Timberwolf. Also the tracks aren’t as wide as the Timberwolfs. Reliability has also been unpredictable with them but backup is good. It really depends on how much you will use it. And how user friendly you want it to be. Realistically the closest dealer to you will be the best for you as they should look after you regardless of chipper. Good luck
  16. Anyone else interested in a defender 90?. Mines on eBay at the minute. Don’t know how to share the link, but here’s a picture. Silky knows what a beaut she is. Message me if interested. Always open to offers. Thanks Geoff.
  17. Top banana Steve, I’ll be getting in contact to get ours sorted. [emoji106]
  18. What Stephen said [emoji121]️you should always have a rescue climbers line pre installed so that in the event of emergency rescue you can access the tree straight away. Although in reality this rarely happens.
  19. Try the relays. One of them might be loose or on its way out. [emoji106]
  20. Cracking job Reg. You deserved those cans that night. id love to come over on a working holiday. Rock on?
  21. Where abouts is it Ben.? I’ve just done a clearance job in denham Uxbridge and there’s a big place just down the road from the old film studios with a big poorly looking redwood you can see from the road. And it looks just like your picture. Be interesting to find out. Cheers
  22. Absolutely fantastic. Big kahunas that’s for sure. He is at the age where drive and determination are the only thing in his mind. Fear is pretty much non existent. Or not worth thinking about [emoji51] Respect [emoji110]
