1. So speaks the man who won't get a splined carb screwdriver for his birthday!
2. Great comment Stubby, **** spelling but great comment....
3. A good point to watch. My rebuilt 357xp would not idle at a reasonable speed so I stripped and rechecked the pressure and vac again. I'd used Spud's tip about using an "o" ring on the impulse and used a narrow "not Jubilee clip" on the manifold connection. Pressure and vac were still fine, but carb failed the pop test. Service kit from Hugo at Rowena has solved the problem, saw now running as sweet as poss. lesson: check the carb every time......
4. A really great and appropriate post, Predator. I don't get the Black Dog as badly as I used to years ago, but you know when he's about, especially as the dark nights approach. Hope it's good for other peeps reading these posts that it's not just them he visits. Keep busy and occupied is half the battle and don't drink much.
5. I think it's possible to make a case for cleaning before dismantling! At least you're not going to stab your finger because it's buried in sawdust!
6. Hi Guys Question for the hot boys( Spud, are you there?). Pressure and vac testing on strato saws, do we have a proper method as I don't have enough thumbs or enough room?
7. A really interesting report on radio 4 today from an epidemiologist from Cardiff (I think). His team had been studying hotspots of people with Crones disease in Cardiff and found these hotspots on the East side of the river Taff. Their conclusion suggest that a bacterium that affects cows and sheep gets into the river water and gets blown to the east by the prevailing wind as an aerosol which is breathed in. The bug affects people that are vulnerable to exposure. It therefore could start as a result of a chest infection with this bug. Look it up!
8. Hi Python I'm a trustee of a small charity that refurbs tools that we send to Tanzania. We also refurb green woodworking tools to sell, bill hooks, axes, drawknives etc. We buy lots of good quality axe handles so could possibly sell you some. Give me a pm and I'll try and sort a price.
9. Thanks for your replies guys, Bullman has a great site here, always great info and almost zero bovine ordure, unlike most of the ones from a more westerly direction!
10. Ah yes! Quite right Eddy. Explains why I can't find an 8T! Cheers
11. Mmmm.. that's what I'm finding. Thought I'd try it as an experiment as I have .325 bars and chains in the shed.
12. Good morning chaps. I am having great difficulty in finding an 8 pin .325 rim sprocket (large) to fit the 365 I have upgraded to a 372xp. I have several 18" .325 bars and would like to run one on this saw. Any source ideas? Thanks in advance...
13. Warm cider? Not a nice prospect.......
14. Quite right Steve! I've dismantled it and it isn't a "Special" at all despite the badge! It has open ports and a Zama carb. Foolishly, perhaps, I have ordered an upgrade to 372 kit from tesgol. Doesn't leave me with any profit in it so will turn into a rocket saw for myself!
15. It's a big blacksmith's fuller, from when real men used to bash metal for a living.
16. There's absolutely nothing I can say to make you feel better but please take a little comfort that you are in our thoughts too. Jeff and Jane
17. What's all this graphite powder business? Wash with soap and water, dry and GT85 spray, simples!
18. I really don't know. I've had it running fine, good colour on plug and plenty of compression. Can't imagine why they robbed the parts unless to fix someone's 372 in a hurry. Still hoping for some bits........
19. Good morning Gentlemen, Have just aquired a 365 Special that's good but has been robbed for parts. I need a handle, brake handle and clutch cover. Does anyone have a 372 or 365 scrapper lying about for a nominal fee?
20. :thumbup1:On my bench today, MS250, wouldn't turn over completely and felt rather rough when hand turning. Removed exhaust to find things rattling around in it. Dismantled engine to find wrecked piston and three balls missing from clutch side bearing! Surprisingly pot and conrod ok.
21. Hi Slackbladder I have a really nice 038Super on a 20". Perfect except there's a repaired, non structural crack in the clutch cover. Saw works a treat and doesn't look as if it's been used as a pro-saw at all. It dropped a 24" big old birch a couple of weeks ago, no problem. Almost new chain. I'm looking for £150.
22. The "O" ring sounds like really good idea but by "jubilee" clip I mean those narrow stainless ones that are the same width as the dodgy Husky one. Have you had trouble with them then?
23. Well spotted that typo error----357!
24. Just finished a 257xp. Came in with 100lb compression and slappy noises. Piston looked fine but couln't find any other reason for low comp so fitted a new one anyway. Now up to 175. P & V test was ok but on startup could not reduce idle speed. Used Spud's "spray WD40 on the inlet manifold connection" and got a result. I don't like that horrid manfold clip but wiggling it slightly cured the problem. Think I'll replace it with one of those narrow Norma jubilee clips if it plays up again!
25.
Thanks Spud, I wasn't sure how wide I could go as the skirts on the Meteor are quite generous. I put it back together now without any mods except reducing the squish to 0.6mm as it was over a mm with the new piston. Will put a 20mm outlet on the exhaust tomorrow. Are you going to the show? Owe you a drink if you're there...
