  1. My 19 year old climber/ground who I employ on a 0 hours contract has just asked for a pay rise! At the moment he is on £6.50 ph, he only does easy climbing jobs as I get a contract climber in for the hard stuff as my lad only has a years experience. He works hard most of the time but at times let's himself down with his attitude and punctuality. I have put his wage up to £7.50 ph as I value him but I will not be held to randsome.

  14. A good mate of mine works for a local road contractor, a very well established firm. I have done stump grinding for them in the past. a few months back they asked my mate to fell some trees on a site they were working on, my mate has 30/31 so he did it. they asked to hire my chipper but i refused as i did not want it being miss treated, so they hired one in. a few weeks ago my mate told me they had another tree job on but this time they needed climbing and dissmantling, he suggested that he get me in,his boss told him to get on with it. my mate rang me to ask where they could hire a cherry picker from? so they can take the trees down. now i know you cant win every job and there will allways be people that are gonna do the job for cheap but this really pees me off. all the training and insurance costs to be able to carry out a job safely and you get idiots like this. maybe i should start tarmacing and laying drives.
