  1. That's what I thought, I have also heard elm can be used??
  2. But they have to have it by law to touch gas. We are not required by law to have it to operate so its not a level playing field to start with.
  3. That's my thoughts too, I did mention it and they said its to make sure we are competent in the task we are doing, so eliminating cowboys?? If anything it will encourage people to risk doing trees near power lines rather than going through the propper channels.
  4. See if I dont have to do the refresher for my day to day work I'm not gonna fork out for the odd job that comes along once in a blue moon as Its not worth it. Just wondered how many other domestic tree firms/ lads etc have done it. The ones I have spoke to have never needed to. If your good at your job then why do you have to refresh??
  5. I have a tree to remove which has power lines running close by, the power needs to be turned off. In the past I have called the power provider and they have shut the power off and let us do our work without much fuss. The last time I needed this done was in March this year, no problems. The time before that was 2008. I have spoken to them today and they can do a shut down but I have to provide a risk assessment and method statement, insurance details and copy's of anyone working on the jobs NPTC certs. Now I do t have a problem with any of that I do R/A and M/S for any big Job or where it's needed no probs, I have insurance and we all have NPTC but they have said that now they want everyone to have do a refresher course in their highest ticket say for example CS 40/41 or whatever. Now I am told a refresher would cost £100 for a day add on the days lost earnings for me and I'm up at say £400, then the climbers I use neither of which have needed refreshers to carry out the jobs with my company or any other company so for 1 days work its not worth them doing it either. If I was working for the power company I could sort of understand it but its a private job.
  6. Is it mandatory to have a refresher every 5 years? Will our NPTC cert become in valid if we don't have the refresher? I am having problems at the moment because of it.
  7. Here is a write up in my local paper about it.

Err, wrong. I had a 55 plate Navara but got rid of it as the towing weight was pants. Now I have a landy and would never go back.
  9. I saw him too, and on Tuesday towing a Jensen. How come your working all the way up here mate?
  10. How are you going to measure a loose cube for them? You do t want To give too much or too little. £90
  11. Can't wIt to try it..glad you like Kendal, its a nice place when the sun is out. If I had loads of money I would buy more bandit stuff as it's very well built and well thought out.
  12. Very impressed with the grinder, extremely well built. Lots of good ideas on it. Can't wait to get it onto a stump. I have some big ones coming up.
  13. Not yet mate.
  14. she's here!!
  15. the grinder is 10 mins away!! Were having a beer in the sun while waiting.
  16. Well today is the day my new toy arrives, can't wait. Bandit HB20 on its way!! More to follow......
  17. That's what I use, £50 for 25 lt delivered. Good price that.
  18. Top handles are not technically to be used one handed, everyone does though when needed but on the training course they tell you they should be used 2 handed. They are light and small so ideal for hedge reductions.
  19. I am not insulting you I am just concerned that your gonna have an accident wielding an 18" chainsaw around. If your gonna use a chainsaw up in a hedge you would use a climbing saw and chainsaw trousers and be trained to use one, if you are wanting to be safe.
  20. No worries:)
  21. If you read his post he says he is going to then use it for hedge reduction.
  22. lol lol lol
  23. You want to use an 18" bar for hedge work?? Reduction?? Are you for real? Your telling me your gonna go up a ladder with a chainsaw with an 18" bar on? That's blooming stupidity mate. Have you got chainsaw certs? Have you any idea how to use a saw? I would stick with gardening and leave the chainsaw stuff to the pros.
  24. This thread is a load of rubbish, you bought a bag of wood for £50 and didn't get as much as you wanted/expected, big deal, don't buy off him again and get over it.
  25. So is good oil for cars. You get what you pay for. Bio oil for me as it's better for ya and the environment. If you want cheap oil why not use old engine oil. LoL
