Veteran half dead oak in the way of a new shed. Planning requirement is to cut it, monolith it and move the cut "cylinder" to a nearby area and crane it into a hole and concrete it in. The moving and craning is down to builder. Today it was checked by an ecologist and then our ARB subbys did the coronet cuts/fracture pruning. Two large lower branches left on to weigh it over when felled and to cushion the fall by breaking. Guy up the tree was great (not me ) Got some nice close ups of his coronet cuts

Hi I have some log weight charts based on green oak but not sure where I got them. I could do with some from a recognised source as I have to do a full method statement for some crane works and need to justify my conclusions regarding predicted weights etc for the lifts Does anybody know where I could reference some from etc Thanks

I think I read that there is a new zig zag coming out this year which will be OK to use for SRT with a wrench Anybody know if and when this is coming out ?

Got my first reduction to do just after xmas. Only done removals, dead wooding, thinning small stuff and re pollarding to date but fully agree that no spikes out at the tips is much slower. Not worried if it takes me a long time as its a learning experience in so much as the climbing goes. What worries me is butchering it by not having someone with an eye on the ground. Not sure how you approach sections where there is no obvious pruning point. Its a birch and wont stand hacking. Its not TPO but I don't want to butcher it but do want to try it. Are there any pointers or is it just a case of do it and learn

Yes. It was one of the things I was wary of when I decided to try it. Oil goes down with the fuel as so top up every time. Decided to pay a bit more for the lighter bar and glad I did. Went for the full skip chain also. Overall its so much lighter than a 661 and I can always go smaller with the bar when appropriate

I had this problem too when I tried the SRT ascent with a wrench. Put me right off Need to practice getting them off at low levels and persevere

Hi Think I've finally killed off my rigging/pulling rope. Its a few years old (12mm) and has served well. Considering buying a thicker lowering rope but when pulling things over I'm thinking a basic static rope would be better and would probably mean that I don't destroy an expenisve rigging rope as quickly Any thoughts and ideas of where/what to buy Thanks

Where's the best place to go for some bigger ones for a Stihl 461 ? Will I have to order off ebay to get them from America or is there a place to just go buy Thanks

Can anyone offer an opinion on whether it is worth changing the bumper spikes on a larger saw to something a bit more sticky outy ? It looks like it might be worth it but obviously there is a safety issue if you not careful. Thanks

I must be going senile...Just noticed a month after I bought it that it is a 461 lol Just compared it with the 661 in the shop and went for the smaller.....
