  1. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. More disturbing to hear of accidents when people are doing it right
  2. Well looks like I'm getting one then. Hopefully in the vicinity of a cheap one tomorrow. As for tall trees......its in the eye of the beholder lol
  3. You ain't seen my missus, knickers lol
  4. Has anyone got any tips on making an effective throw bag launcher on the cheap. Big shot seems dear for what it is. Tar
  5. Not seen this thread before. best pics I've seen....reckon your the daddy lol
  6. Interesting point though.....It's not just about time taken...they need to pay for the whole package....Your know how ...to ensure a safe job.. they wouldn't thank you if you killed yourself in their garden lol
  7. Occurred to me the other day but haven't tried it yet. When using single line for access. Throw line through crown to base tie. Leave throw line attached after pulling rope through and down to tie off point. Make a mental note of the point on the rope just below apex. Pull it back down, put your little prussic and revolver krab on it at this point. Put running end of rope through krab and pull it back with throw line. You then have the branch walking 3-1 system installed to get you to top of the tree. Not sure if this is common practice anyway
  8. Its true. We are just doing a job for a large construction company. All the RAMS had been accepted by their H and S boys. We referrenced The AA guide to good climbing practice and work positioning etc etc to cover work at height. Just as the lads were gonna start, their supervisor on site stopped them saying that it didn't specifically say in the method statement what we would do if the guy in the tree had a heart attack. Hardly likely but we couldn't start till we'd appended a statement detailing second climber, CS 38 and aerial rescue. Doesn't happen often though.
  9. Massive limb broke off this Pop and took out a garage and fence. In the summer
  10. Jack Moody,s Place behind Hollybush garden centre 2 mins from M6 J11
  11. There's two ways of pricing anything...day rate or fixed price. Your fixed price should aim to beat day rate as you have the risk. With GM you have to think what separates us from the one or two man band who have bought a van and two cheap mowers with their redundancy money and probably do a tidy job on some smaller sites. Larger kit waste disposal, the paperwork backup required by larger client organisations and of course waiting much longer to get paid. I find the smaller subbies always want to base it on day rates but big firms give a fixed price and wont consider day rates
  12. "I've done trees for £750 when they could of been £2k, £1500, £250, £190! All plus vat It depended on how my day, week , month had been going, what mood I was in, was it raining or not! Did I want my opposition to get it or did I just want the glory of doing that certain tree!!" I think that's a great comment
  13. Why not split your business' in two. One entity for private jobs so you keep your turnover down below the threshold. Other is registered and works for commercial customers and buys the big kit. Internal expense crossovers jigged by bean counter TA DA....lol
  14. Thanks for all the good advice above. After reading the recent debate on climbing versus MEWP its made me think about it again. We have a job on next week which I think may partly benefit from a MEWP...maybe a couple of days within a week long job. Which are the best Hirers to try in the West Midlands...probably need a tracked one..15mts high 15 mts reach..?
  15. Have you got a link plz
  16. Thanks guys
  17. Hi Does the saw strop need to be LOLERED, Just thinking if it failed it could cause injury
  18. Thanks... Had another look and now can see how you are using a redirected line...clipping below with the cut piece...so obvious now
  19. Hi Noticed that in one instance the zip line was attached to the stem you were on... above your lanyard.. but your main line was anchored in another tree/stem. When reducing the final stem when you must tie in on that stem.. do you still use this zip line freefall method for smaller blocks. Suppose it comes down to your experience and judgement but after watching a talk at this years Arb show I was surprised at how much lateral force is produced by a speedline/zipline whatever. Don't want you to get snapped off...your videos are far too good.
  20. Sounds to me like you enjoy doing it and probably will whatever. Only you can decide if it is worth the cost of tickets and insurance at this time. Maybe look at this job to pay for your start up package of training etc. If your already employed then time out to train is maybe the biggest obstacle
  21. Thanks Tree... will give those numbers a try after the break. If not, reckon it will be a stay at my brother's place in Poole and Roland Hemming
  22. Are the Council contractors external or in house DSO
  23. Thanks Ti I am aware of them. They seem to be the most popular but was wondering if there are others in view of how big the West Midlands is.
