  1. Yeah did one Saturday and it was awkward. Obviously you want to climb good side i.e. facing out not hanging backwards or off the side but it occurred to me afterwards that I should have placed my high anchor in a neighbouring tree at 90 degrees. I could have moved up with more stability and got back down easier. When the TIP is in the high centre of the tree your in, it's awkward taking in slack as you move back down.
  2. Find these to be the hardest to get right out on, especially when they are bent all over and varying from almost vertical to more horizontal and seems less stable when at height of main anchor point in middle of tree. Worse coming back down trying to retain stability to section off. Suppose its just practice and experience but wondered if any tips going.
  3. How much would you pay for a second hand Husqvarna 365 with a 24" bar Assume it runs OK
  4. Agree...don't try explaining. If it took you twice as long as you anticipated would they pay double. Some builders we deal with want a job done pronto then ask for a breakdown of our charges i.e. materials plant labour and profit. Annoying ...!!!
  5. The bit of broken branch with a sling round it
  6. It is difficult to know how to start. I went to the climbing wall and quickly learned that was not really relevant apart from fitness building. Buy the tree climbers companion book and look at the videos on the net. I also downloaded EVERYTHING I could find ...all AFAG leaflets NPTC compentencies and especially the HSE list of fatal and serious injuries. Felt guilty buying my first rope, harness strop etc as no ticket but needed to learn first. Never be a full time commercial climber but love doing occasional works. Thing is now I don't automatically say He's a great climber just cos I see a bloke up a tree on a rope. Really nice to have an understanding even if I'm just on the ground
  7. Can you explain why static redirect (alpined) is better than dynamic Thanks
  8. Before it was a taboo.... Butterfly collectors used crushed laurel leaves in a killing tin to kill the critters before squashing them in a big book. Always try to hold my breath if I'm chucking loads in the chipper

  21. Why do you object to getting tickets if you don't mind me asking. Is it just the cost ? I can understand the frustration of having to have refreshers if your doing it all the time especially every three years.
