  1. Nearly sixty years ago but plus ca change,
  2. White mischief out of Africa And today out of Lincolnshire!
  3. We have a very old kitchen outbuilding that has some 15th century brickwork on the North face. Ivy had been growing up it for many years and several efforts had been made to remove it as it was penetrating the old bricks and the wall was soaking wet. The large main stem was cut but there was enough moisture in the wall for it to power on. We tried a strong dose of Roundup and 24D but no effect due to the waxy leaves as has been mentioned. However a mix of Roundup, Garlon (or Grazon) plus a wetter did kill it in the end. Best done when actively growing.. Perhaps not a good idea on a tree!
  4. Can’t help it as they keep coming!
  5. I do not think it will be a question of price much more like insurance against having no heat at all from electric or gas, maybe oil too. In which case people will pay anything if wood becomes scarce
  6. Oh to be 25 again eh Stubby, but armed with three score years experience and a bit more money than we had then! A day's axe splitting is just not worth the aches and pains of the next day, the axe is irrelevant!
  7. What a load of old Cob blers, You need to go and Pen a new Cygneture tune called Swan Upping!

  15. Did another curved wall here in the garden really to protect the Ash tree Looks a bit bleak and bare in Winter but a picture when the roses come out
  16. Very good Gary, much better than Stubby! Just do not google "A woman, a dog and a Walnut tree" when your other half is watching!

  18. Nope
  19. I take it that you must be on your way to hospital as I write!
  20. Next thing anyone sitting in a room with a wood stove will be forced to wear a mask or risk a heavy fine
  21. It is the easiest system in herringbone formation and uses no cement or sand We made a HaHa at the old farmhouse in 1970 to keep the cows out of the garden, but retain the view to the grass field and trees It was leaning back slightly into the bank and eventually roots found their way into the cracks and held it together. It has survived all this time through heavy rain, earthquakes and cattle rubbing A friend of father’s in the next door Farm decided to copy it but chickened out at the last moment and built a solid wall with cement. This cracked and fell over after about five years as there was no give in it when the soil moved
  22. Sorry no sun in these ones but just a Fantastic display of snowdrops in a copse here
