  1. Thanks very much for the feedback lads , dont suppose anyone would hazard a guess as to what a fresh 2010 on with around 125 Tonne gone through her is worth ?
  2. Right lads , its the peak of the bagging season ... any definitive numbers . processed softwood..
  3. Id imagine so , thats what it was listed on a secondhand ad as , know anything about them ?
  4. Quick one lads , any one running one ? , what are they like ?
  5. Couldnt agree more , in fact if one of those signs is above the door in my locality its almost a badge of expensive incompetence . Its hard to actually fathom , one dealer needed 2 days to notice to make up a 15 inch chain , another wanted 30 Euro off me after putting a 25 inch carlton chain (i kid you not)on when id asked for and driven out of my way to get a brand name one .Of which hes a dealer . I dont know when the top two major manufacturers are going to start treating their customers with any regard . Like Carlos im in the republic of Ireland , and there is just one thing to do with that saw , send it to Spud . Give him a free hand and you will not credit what you get back off him . Hes recently gone over my everyday saw which is a 357 that he polished and ported over a year ago . The saw pulls like a train still and response is awsome . I wouldnt consider anything else if id a 346 which i liked .
  6. I humbly submit that this one wont be beaten .... In volume anyway . Naturally it never went near a public road ....
  7. Undoubtedly the way to go , the others are both reasonable options but wont go anywhere near as well off road and the fourtrak is 2.8 anyway . I missed out an 01 TD5 commercial over here last weekend with less than 100 thousand mile , four new tyres ,12 month test and part service history for 2700 (less than2K £)Euro. Still kicking myself .
  8. I had one and got serious work out of it , the anti vibe mounts are very spongy though and really get sloppy if youre using long bars for a while .
  9. Sounds like drivel to me , the only thing that will wear the underside of the links is an inability to sharpen his chains properly...Tell him to try oregon bars they will wear out or split before a single chain loop .
  10. Watching all field sports now that im too old and fat to play , following GAA (the county i follow would be the equivalent of Newcastle in premiership terms , believe we have a divine right to be at the top table , come agonisingly close every 20 years amn spend ensuing 5 in the doldrums) . Train and manage teams also , (mostly underage in last few yrs) . Love film , the more offbeat the better , have also got into breaking bad after initially wondering what all the fuss was about .. Have been known to enjoy the odd sociable or two...
  11. This was meant for you Jon and any one else who knows their Td5s , any ideas anyone ?
  12. Some really nice landys here, im getting a hankering for a defender . However i have a disco td5 , faithful and trouble free old steed predominantly despite the reviews and general perception . The thing is last week i got the water pump changed . For the first time since i got it i didnt use my usual mechanic since he was snowed under . Since i got it back there seems to be a fairly bad oil leak , its blowing back onto the bumper etc . I brought it back to him and he completely overfilled it and said he hadnt taken off anything that could leak oil (ie with a gasket).. Is he telling me a porkie , or is this a genuine coincidence ? Wouldnt mind only the water pump was perfect anyway !! .
  13. Hi Richard I do , in the picture with the bulk bag you will see a red lorry cover and the large heap of split stuff has an old marquee roof pulled behind it . Its all been split and covered since last January after being down for a year prior to that . The results are actually quite good , the narrower heap which all came from small diameter stuff was almost all below 20% , the bigger heap which was large diameter stuff is nudging 20% on the outside , obviously it will be higher as i go further into the heap . Its not a perfect system but i have a few marquee roofs and truck covers and is as good as i have at the moment .
  14. Is this not just the dogs ?! . Not mine but i wish it was..... wonder if anyone here knows who runs her , saw her up around Longford one time with a big load of mature hardwood , this time was parked in Mountmellick . Im not stalking ...honest:biggrin:
  15. My few , Spud knows 3 of them , and theyre all the better for it .
  16. Dead right , theyre scum . I just happened to notice at a fairly large local market in the south east of Ireland some stuff that id say was originally belong to a tree surgeon or timber contractor and no doubt lifted at some point . Stihl 044 double dogs Stihl 029 Stihl 025 Climbing gear in a Large Makita Holdall . All the stuff had seen action but you would know had been minded by a pro . Maybe it was a coincidence and some guy getting out of the game sold it as a job lot , Have my doubts though ..
  17. Good news for you , you actually got a really good tool there from what i hear ... and i am a saw snob !! . While you imagine that everyone full time in the game goes for Husky XP or Stihl pro i hapened to notice 391s in Two different hardwood mills i know who have a vast array of stuff (ms 880s , 661s 395s and the like ) . Both had been sold them by the same dealer (obviously the profit margin must be high on semi pro stuff ) but they were getting plenty of hacking and the owners and user both rated them .
  18. As a matter of interest Jon , is there any timing belt (or any belt ) that needs to be changed on a Td5 ?
  19. So was ours a 90 , black , actually bought from a timber guy but on Irish plates ....hardly the same one . This one was thirsty , but like you say pulled well.
  20. You seem to know your TD5S Jon , we had a defender producing 200 plus bhp at one stage .
  21. Looks good ...
  22. Sounds like youre slightly forcing it to me . What works for me in similar scenarios is to lean over the log , point your saw at as near as perpendicular to the log as possible and start your cut , even if it goes only the depth of the bar youre effectively scribing your finished cut . The track is visible on the opposite side when you go to finish then .
  23. I know a lot of guys on here do small net bags ,just what would typical bagging quantity per day be ? . This is bagging only , stuff thats gone through a processor . Offhand i think theyre 600mm x 450 mm bags . Thanks
  24. Yeah , its 2 x 2 and id imagine around one hectare ..
