1. Unfortunately i have had stuff stolen , literally brand new Husqy con saw , Stihl 440 , a trailer ..... do you really think that you can go around for a few years contracting without having stuff stolen . I was making the point that the police would not act on third party info... And i felt thankful that in this instance nothing had been stolen off me , but i have major sympathy for who ever had their gear there .
2. Effectively the point i was eventually going to get round to .
3. Youre taking me up wrong here man , i was disgusted that the stuff was being sold but reporting it as i saw it . I got close to the models and got the years to post them on here in case some of you guys were at the loss of them . As i said i got the reg in the case it was of any use . Rural crime is an epidemic over here and the Gardai (police) have to deal with far more serious stuff than stolen saws . A couple of guys i know were looking at some of the saws and i said to them that they should consider that it had been stolen of some guy who needed them .
4. Really ? , maybe its a coincidence then or hes the go to guy for Surgeons or contractors selling virtually new stuff by the dozen . Pretty legit approach to be going around in a van taking quarter of the gears value in cash , ah yeah the more i think about it you must be right . I must give them a shout the next time im selling something , theyre obviously paying top whack . Good man sure i was imagining they might be less than legit
5. Considered it , but none of it was stolen off me thankfully ... dont think theyd act on third party info . I tried calling the guy who had the stuff stolen , left him a msg. Also the market is a fairly extensive one with literally everything for sale , i only paid attention to this stuff cos ive an interest in the likes , if the police started with this guy what would they do with the 9 other guys selling secondhand tools , the 5 other stalls selling I phones etc etc .
6. Actually likely to be knocked off id say ! . I was at a market this morning and a usual stall holder was there , always has 2 stroke stuff , i actually referred to him before as having climbing gear and a couple of obviously pro user stihls . Well this morning was just jaw dropping , at least a dozen pro saws , what i noticed up close were 2010 261 2014 362 1998 088 husqy 540 like new 201 Top handled 441 461 modern but well used Bag of climbing gear Pretty sickening to be honest , i have the reg , its a UK reg tranny , doesent seem to be hired . Couldnt make out the accents but there seemed to be 3 gentlemen in attendance . I see over here theres a guy in the midlands at the loss of 7000 Euros worth of saws . I have almost no doubt this stuff was stolen unfortunately, possibly in the UK , possibly here .
7. All time favourite is Spudded 357 , after that in no order 038 magnum , 372 , 090 (for the nostalgia ! ) Stihl 460 ... Just noticed a majority of Stihl , wouldnt have thought that .
8. I dont think anyone actively sets out to be dissapointed with something that represents a reasonable Investment ,do they ? . Can anyone reasonably tell me the Stihl MS 261 is a particularly good saw ? . Throw in a couple of weeks in a dealers getting issues sorted out inside its first three months from new , it goes from being a mediocre one to a bad one in my opinion . Is it 25 years of R and D better than an 028 definitely not . Has Stihls backup improved ? , the opposite id suggest . Likewise the 576 Husqy i bought , absolute dog , with no customer backup , now in several biscuit tins . Is it better than a 266 that i sold to a neighbour which is still running , definitely not . I think a major problem for both major manufacturer is releasing models early and solving problems as they arise as opposed to having them tested beyond fault prior to release . Later in model runs saws do seem to be better and more trouble free but surely that should be at the manufacturers cost . Undoubtedly saw performance should be improving , after all were paying for it every time we buy a new one ! , but to the extent that id be confident im automatically buying a better one every time , without a doubt no .
9.
As opposed to "Europe in or out " or " Holidays in Loch Ness " ?....

12. Just dawned , i havent seen Jon in a while , anyone been talking to him ?
13. Like your saw but like your Fendt too , what model is it ?
14. Nice , always liked the look of Jonsered altough i actually cant remember owning one out of around 50 saws over time ..
15. I appreciate those 5 series Husqys look like a lot of saw for the money and look a good tool but in my experience they werent , just passing on my experience . Best of luck with whatevever you purchase .
16. I had a 576 , deceptively bad saw . Didnt get a year out of it . My policy on buying secondhand after a long time buying saws both new and secondhand is to buy only proven pro models such as 372 , 357 ,346 Stihl 460 etc . My second policy is to only pay a price that will allow for them having a new Piston and visit to Spud and still not be stupidly dear when its all added up . The only exception id make is if i knew the seller and trusted him . Ive seen mint looking saws be dogs and saws that looked more fit for the skip be reasonable old workhorses . Save your money unless its very reasonable or you trust him .
17. I have , i actually have an acre attached to a house i own . Which i could theoretically build on , but its rented out , also the neighbours wouldnt be too impressed by one of Spuds creations going flat out making 125 Decibels . There is a fair bit of equity in it ,so i might sell it and try and buy a yard . The property market here is still all over the place but im considering giving it a try . As regards getting a straight business loan i wouldnt have the turnover in my bank account .
18. Hi everyone , i have been on the lookout for a yard / shed over here for the last few weeks . Basically have outgrown our present location , my god the rates asked are eyewatering . How come landlords are happy to sit on empty units , there are 7 pages (around 70) of empty yards in the county i live in here but the cheapest is around 9,000 Euro Per annum . I had an interesting encounter and formed my own theory today . Went to look at a place which was pretty much ideal for me , locally , well , well outside Dublin . Small talk over , the guy renting says he wants 750 Euro cash per month . I nearly pass out , this is basically a small 3 span barn / lean to with barely enough room to turn a truck . I say , youre having a laugh and he says to me that hes already getting this for a smaller lock up in the same yard . I ask from who , he says from a foreign gentleman who stores Lawnmowers , saws , wackers etc ,do you want to see . So he opens the doors and sure enough there are dozens of the afforementioned . He says i havent even seen him for the last 3/4 months but the money is always there . Hmmmm , now the gear was all secondhand and would have been hard set to be worth 4 K , so its obviously not a commercial venture , i dont see the average house mover having a dozen mowers . My guess would be that amongst the powertools a friendly police sniffer dog might very well have his nostrils tickled . Hard to compete with that .
19. Thanks very much for all the feedback Lads , much appreciated
20. Ha , be interesting alright , theyre discovering new ways to get it wrong with every new delivery..
21. I think its coils , but im not sure so thats one to check tomorrow .
22. Im not sure Geoff , it doesent seem to add up , the Motor factor guy is into his Landrovers and specifically pointed me in the direction of these shocks , hes usually spot on so thats why im wondering .
