  1. Snowed when I took dogs out last night Rained overnight, and still rining So snow on the tops Wet everywhere else
  2. I'm not a log dealer But My idiot old neighbour ( in his 80's) expected 3 tonnes of seasoned hardwood for £90 from my fencer, which pi$$edt off the fencer somewhat.... He then bought a builders bag of fresh oak from a farm lad who sells it for £100. I think problems are 1) regional - there seem to be massive differences in prices across uk 2) customers who don't understand moisture content 3) stove sellers who specify " it must be hardwood" 4) its pretty much the only fuel where you meet the producer 5) i'm told big boys are moving from wind turbines to firewood, so there is going to be massive increase in competition for raw materials, if you've got the £££ time to buy some woodland? Upsum..... I think you need to have a branded product that meets set standards ......pay for someone to market and educate too....... you'd probably get a grant too
  3. You probably know lot more than me ....... Might just cover top and say top foot and park under a thick overgrown hedge Should keep rain off but let air through Tried pallet wrap on a temporary garden greenhouse couple of years ago, worked better than expected .......its quite tough stuff
  4. Niki lauda had whole month off for burning his eyebrows off.......
  5. My late father in law a chemist sold cliff richard some zit cream in 1959 His wife is still talking about it
  6. I've just deceided to do exactly the same You could cut couple of sticks and bend them across diagonals to give you some drainage I'm wondering how far to come down sides with wrap...... Think i'll come down fit further than you ........ Have wondered about covering whole thing in summer, will act like greenhouseand moisture should condense on plastic and drip off
  7. When I worked in city ( London) there was 2 inches of snow Lazy git I worked with didn't show up, excuse was he couldn't get in When I asked he lived 300 yards from tube station Then Less than 50 yards from tube to office Lazy git People I worked with thought this perfectly reasonable Had to give up in london My temper was so bad I'd lock up all my muscles and pop a disc! After having it put back twice thought this is not good long term Went in to boss with resignation letter in my pocket and said can't put up with this So he made me redundant ! Success £5k I wasn't expecting Made me realize LONDON IS FULL OF TOSSERS wasting our money Mind you London is dangerous in two inches of snow, full of tossers trying out their supercharded 4x4's by driving out of control and way too fast .........
  8. You might find it here chainsaw , Buy chainsaw Direct from China Manufacturers and Suppliers. Find Made In China chainsaw Products - China-Direct-Buy.com. Looks like a $25 chainsaw? Or Chainsaw 25CC(KXD-CS2500) (China Manufacturer) - Products Wonder what a chinese £500 saw is like ?
  9. Read american book about this -( another must do from 5 years ago ) Guy there waseperimentibg with spawn in chain oil Idea being to put spawn into trees as you cut them down American hippy ? Might be interested in buying some dowels
  10. Seen them painted and used as farm name plates
  11. Uplands are problem across whole of europe Problem is lamb is unpopular meat .... So upland sheep farming is very marginal In wales grants to farmers spprox £350m Farms profits approx £190m So in reality welsh farming loses approx £160m a year and is grant dependent But Public liketheir uplands as they are ........ So thats political problem Looking atthis forum there is obviously increasing demand for firewood as raw material prices are increasing, and big boys are moving in..... So I'd guess grants for planting woods in less favoured areas will increase in next few years Also RSPB and walkers will generally approve too.... Easy out for politicians ......
  12. There is house in n wales called sodom Hall ---- its on os map near denbigh, so probably old Estate agents kidderminster way Dolittle and Dally
  13. Chucking it down Forcast says same for next 5! Days Fed up now Time to get tax return n books completed
  14. Predator my family originally came from Parr, St Helens Went to atherton where my great grandad sank colliery shafts for gibfield colliery, he stayed on as colliery engineer, and built a railway engine ( general) which I'm told has been preserved, but I've never tracked it down His son stayed on as colliery engineer at gib field colliery I never knew either of them ........
  15. They were different times... In school holidays we went to local colliery ( bickershaw ) and drove steam railway engines ( spitfire and hurricane ) taking lines of coal wagons a mie or so to join the BR. Lines ......BR then picked them up for delivery That was a proper train set ! This was fine until BR got rid of steam, then following summer we were told " sorry lads been told you can't come any more" Couple of posh lads at school bought steamroller and fired it by running over park benches , they sold it and bought steam shovel that was big enough to put mini in the bucket ...No idea where they are now.....they were older than me so never saw that close up... Its unbelieveable now .......
  16. I did same Bit of Dibnah fest from youtube .....
  17. Thanks for post It's 40 years ago, worked it out last night, just seems like a dream now......his roller didn't have a roof then either...... Never driven traction engine with a roof ...... Funny thing is someone sent me a picture last week .... Could have been on same day Strange coincidence ......
  18. I knew Fred a bit when I was in Lancashire traction engine club I was on McClaren at burtonwood rally and scrounged lift back with fred First stop was nearest pub where we stayed till closing time His oppo got on trailer and went to sleep under the canvas sheet I steered and he fired Next stop was for water where we turned on fire hydrant with stilson, filled up with water then couldn't turn it off properly ( i think hydrant was outside police station) Steady run cross country , and that engine ran very nicely I remember him saying ( often ) "iron men tin engines" He told me footpate was 8" longer than normal so he could sleep on it when Alson kicked him out again We went under railway bridge in cloud of steam, smoke and full throttle - very memorable I was under 21 with provisional car licence ( min age drive roller 21) In Leigh police car pulled us up, fred stood on back wheel and urinated saying "drivers rights" Policeman politely asked " if he could have a ride!" I dropped off after few more miles and walked home at 2:30am totally shattered .....and filthy Before he perfected his " prop chimney up with timber and light fire" , he used to yank prop out with his engine, apparently on one occasion wire rope kept breaking, he spliced it back together till it was shorter than chimney, so when it came out he had to keep going..... Don't think you'd get away with it now ........ Very memorable evening, but it seems like a dream now..........
  19. Pay someone to get your legals sorted too Will pay for itself at some point where someone tries it on with you
  20. I've got one summat like this MENAGE GRADER/ARENA LEVELLER/LAND GRADER WITH 3 POINT LINGAGE CAT 1 | eBay and a half mile track Frankly it does very little for improving the lane....it just slides across the top...i think its really for landscapers to level soil after they have dumped it Ok for removing leaves when they build up to the point where I'm leaved in ( like being snowed in) and ok if you drop gravel and need to level the gravel Sorted problem ( i hope) by getting contractor to surface road with mix of clay and gravel .....he builds forestry roads and access roads to wind turbines .....keeping water off the road is essential too...braking and accelerating will break it up too...
  21. My missis worked in office where they had topless calendar Girls got together and bought one with naked blokes Result All calenders changed pronto
  22. In motor trade sales and servicing are very seperate within the businesses So each is aiming to maximise sales ...... This means when customer brings warranty claim in the servicing department are keen to grab it ........regardless of where the car was bought Doesn't seem to happen in arb as businesses generally smaller ......... Opportunity for someone to set up arb equipment repair franchise? If local agent loses his sales to internet, and repairs to local repairer, whats left?
