  1. Hi steve pm so we could talk about it .Cheers Chris
  2. Hi Mathew yes sounds like posch or palax both do circular saws I prefer the palax because the splitter ram is 16/18 tons where as the posch 350 or 360 is only 12 tons thats alright on easy going but if you want to split 8 or 12 ways the posh will get stuck on reall notty beech or oak presumably that is why they only go 2 4 6 or 8 waysplitters.Saw a demo at the apf and the posh got stuck with 6 way notty piece of oak .The palax is much heavier and I would say stronger but I am biased as I have had them from 1995 and see no reason to change.Cheers Chris.
  3. Hi do you know when it is on and where? thanks Chris.
  4. You will need a lot of this size timber to justify the investment in a machine capable of doing this size.As Alicydon says you will need at least a 16 way splitter and would think this would need at least a 50 ton force unless itr is all ash or birch straight and not free. I think in about 2000 wilsons had a posh firewood factory that could take 24".It did a few shows and demos then went back to Austria unsold I think. Then it was about £45000 I shudder to think what it would cost today. My advice would be get a binderderger 30T gigant break the bigger stuff into quarters then put through a palax combi you will be surprised how much you can get through. I did this from 2000 -2010 then traded to palax 100 but still break the big stuff down on binderberger not found anything it won t break up. Hope this helps Chris.
  5. If its good stuff worth more for fenceing where abouts is it in the country. As others have said burns well but MUST be dry or it will just sit and go black best mixed in with other species on a wood burner or log boiler. Not as valuable as beech oak ash birch etc .PM me your details though cheers Chris.
  6. Yes you should be able to move them quite easily in the log pro because it is flat and a really smooth floor,I used one for loading 600kg big bags of fertilizer in a fridge trailer but you had to park on the flat.I doubt 2 big bags will weigh 900/1000 kgs unless it is green beech or oak.My 1 cubic metre load mixed dry hardwood about 350 kgs. I reckon if you stack them 2 high it will be too unstable and want to topple over.
  7. Sounds like they need reporting to trading standards to me I used to use larger nets than that and reckoned on bagging about 27 from I m3 load .I hate red tape and regulation but the firewood industry needs a regulated volume of sale so the customer knows what they are getting.I have been selling by the cubic metre of loose logs for the last 18 years and still people ask is it a ton or is that a builders bag etc.Any thoughts?
  8. Hi Ibought in last year at average £45 roadside now regularly hearing of 50 55 a tonne all these plus haulage!I run my own lorry and trailer but the haulage costs are still about 10 to15 depending on distance, truoble is I am in pembrokeshire and all the fc and large managed woods around here are softwood. To sound even more grim A friend told me last night a large woodland management company paid £55 a tonne for 3000 tonnes of STANDING hardwood how much is this going to be roadside? Happy new year Big Chris.
  9. Yes went on wednesday very impressed with the whole idea, been trying to think how to put one together for about 4 years now it has been done for me and they have sorted all the paper work marvelous! I signed up there and then it can t come soon enough what with all this rain. As for fueling it as the old saying goes it is the wood I reject that make my logs the best! I am in it to supply good dry logs not for the rhi payments if these cme then that will be a bonus. Thanks to Chris and Danniele for there help .Big Chris.
  10. Is that with Jim at caledonian? He did me a great trade for my tsve for a palax 100s If the deals right go for it.Chris
  11. My old 600 and tsve used to take 3m lenghts easily thats what i had was 3m hardwood pulp and put 1500 cubic metres through a winter. Don t see why combi wouldn t be the same.Chris.
  12. Hi are you talking about the old 600 or the 600tsve I started with the old 600 in 1995 was an excelent simple machine to use and very quick cut up to 12" at a push then had 3 600tsve machines which had electric controls for splitter height and to overide the splitter very useful and conveinately placed these made it slightly quicker,I never had any trouble with the electrics on any of them. The combi is still much the same machine but gone back to manual controls although I have not had one.I think these are still one of the best small processors out there . I f you are only cutting up to 10 to 12" material you won t get anything to do the job quicker. Last point I always changed every 3 years. Hope this helps Big Chris.
  13. Hi my mate in sussex sends loads of soft wood to belgium seems crazy but it keeps him busy.
  14. Hi sounds just like the chap I used to see alot when I was hauling timber through out the south east and beyond in those days it was mostly blue varios shades on the cab and yes what big side burns he had and mostly wore a red and white neckerchief.Havent seen him for a long time as moved to west wales in 2003 but glad to hear he is still around .Any one got a picture of his lorry. My 03 navara nearly 200k but doubt will make 3mill My old 97 erf comming up to 1.5million. Cheers Big Chris.
  15. Hi I had about 4 of the palax s over the years and thought very highly of them buy new and change every 3 years and no problems at all doing 1500 cube a winter.Depending what sort of timber you process the palax 70 and posch 280 won t cut any bigger only more coplicated. If you can get bigger timber 6"to 16" look at a palax 100 2 tons of solid steel.16 tons of splitter .Looked at posch 350 but it got stuck on knotty oak with only 6 way knife and it only weighs about 1.25 tons the splitter is only 12 tons. I bought a Palax100 from Jim at caledonian 3 years ago and I think he has 2 s/h ones at the moment and he gave me a very good price for my old palax. Hope this helps Big Chris.
  16. Hi sam what lengths are they going to be is there access for wagon and drag and what sort of price roadside have you a picture of a sample pm me or phone 07970065953. Cheers Chris.
  17. Hi Gary, Bought our vigas 25 kw log boiler in 2004 fitted in 5 bed detached house no acumalator tank but loads of heat and hot water on only 1 fireing aday uptill now this winter. Built like preverbial out house and has never let us down yet.Only thing needed in nearly 10 years use 1 fuse and a fire door rope seal.Simple and rugged and reliable what more can you ask for. They are still available and not too dear. Hope this is of help,Big Chris.
  18. Hi if they did send some one to measure it more than lickely to get it wrong Bought what was supposed to be 180 tonnes couple months back and it turned out at 115 reckon he was blind or drunk or both or could nt be bothered to get out of his van so guessed.I am in west wales and it is now natural resources wales god knows how much this cost and they still do nt answer voice mail or email.Big Chris
  19. Hi shendy looked at this in 2004 all the chip boilers in the smaller range need constant size wood chip not wood leaf and other dirt in it it will block the auger and then the boiler has no fuel.I went for a log boiler and it has worked realy well is comming up for 10 year old next year and no troubles. For arb waste and log suppliers surely this is the best option and they are available with a grant, but don t get me started on that. Unless you sort all you arb waste invest in a chipper that will produce boiler grade chip and dry it store it then market it I would just keep on flogging it for mulch or whatever. Cheers Big Chris.
  20. Hi chris just been looking through a few of these can t understand why there is so much demand for cordwood when you all seem a bit quiet on the sales front. Anyway I have been steadily going along at about 30 metres a week now since beginnig of August, hope it does nt get too cold or snow before xmas or I won t be able to keep up. Seasons greetings to you all out there and have a prosperous new year.Big Chris.
  21. Hi garth got one chap producing me a lorry and trailer load but will be looking for more where abouts in the country are you maybe you could quote me. Cheers Chris.
  22. Hi gingerbread.Sorry I am too far away to supply you but here is a few pointers. Ask other people near to you who they use I find most of my sales come this way. Read the manual which came with the stove and understand how the air vents work. Use plenty of kindling to start and try to get good quality hardwoods not too much oak put agood load on and burn it fast untill the logs are forming a black charcol effect then close the air off and it should last a long time and give off plenty of heat.Even if it looks like it has gone out let in air and rake the embers and it will be off again. Hope this helps just keep experementing you will get the hang of it.Chris
  23. Hi can you pm me price and length of wood got my own self loader. Thanks Chris.
  24. Hi Mat If I were you I would sell by the ton get a printed ticket from the driver or public weighbridge ticket you all know where you are then. As for stack measure for hardwoods it was always length x width x height x 55% =volume of wood this is quite easy if the driver loads level to top of pins just measure and get your calculator out. Hope this helps. pity there is so much oak or I would be interested.Chris.
  25. If I were you I would measure out the back of pick up to know the cubic capacity ie cubic metre the sell every load the same the customer then knows what they are getting. The trouble is they think builders bags contain a ton of logs when it is only half acubic metre as they are.80x.80x.80 =0.512 cubic metre. As for what you charge well that depends on so many factors mainly what every one else in your area charges. Hope this is of help Chris.
