  4. Hi I went to lapland earlier this year to visit rovaniemi-loghouse.com There office show house is stunning and their cataloge of log houses and the different timbers and designs are great. Very welcomming and helpful people.Still waiting for a decision from our local plannig dept. Hopefully one day we will get one. Could also try artichouse.fi Again very helpfull people and a family firm. Cheers Chris
  5. Hi as with all machines for mechanised log or kindling you only get out what you put in,rough in rough out. I use a palax 100s as you can take the splitting axes out easily and just cut rings up to 40cm diametre, this is what I do ,I buy good 16foot softwood logs which tend to be knott free rig them up into 8" rings then feed them through the splitta 360 and this produces lovely kindling. The palax is a seriuos piece of kit and will cut and split the knottiest stuff and quick to with the optimi hydraulic length system.Try Caledonian for a second hand one you should get some change from your budget as well. Hope some of this helps Chris.
  6. Hi is the wood roadside and what lengths is it cut too. Can collect with own timber lorry but got to be by the tonne over weighbridge. Cheers Chris.
  7. Hi is it 2 m max stroke or adjustable. Is it remote control so you can use it from a crane. How old is it and what kind of offer. My mobile 07970 065953. Cheers Chris.
  8. Hi big J lucky you .Roll on easter i am off to sweden and finland for 10 days to look at some log houses and some equipment but at the moment emigrating sounds good. Cheers Chris
  9. hi over the year always reckon o 2m3 per tonne of hardwood mixed.Seems to have been the same for me for the last 20 years. Delivered in 1m3 pick up loads or used to do 2m3 transit loads so always the same quantity unlike bags that stretch. Cheers Chris.
  10. Hi probably cheaper on electric but you need 3 phase which not everyone has . Also if you go pto you can move the machine to where you want or hire yourself out,as usual it is a case of what suits you best. To see pictures of my set up look at my website.I am no good at this teckno stuff.Cheers Chris. thehardwoodlogcompany.co.uk
  11. My GF container runs about 45 to 48 most of the time but the top logs seem to go orange colour and smell a bit like singed cake this seems to affect the beech most.I would think making it hotter would not be the answer but more air flow . Cheers Chris.
  12. Hi I am looking at log houses at the moment and have submitted a drawing to the council to see if we could build it .Looking at square logs about 140x275 but will probably have to have an inner wall for cavity insulation to meet buildin regs. This seems stupid when it comes from the artic in finland. Anyway have a look at artichouse.fi lots of ideas there and plenty of styles and log types.Another site is roveneimi-loghouse.com.I have had corespondence with both these companies and they are most helpful. Hope this is of some help.Cheers Chris.
  13. I don t have a heizohack but have got a Laimet HP21 3 point linkage 1000pto with infeed extension for crane feed also 2 spare screw blades ideal for biomass chips.See videos of them on youtube just enter laimet hp21. Cheers Chris.
  14. 150 tons is 150 tons does not matter if it is 1 foot long or 20 foot long you get the same amount of wood ie more pieces of short stuff or fewer of long stuff .Did you check the weight tickets when it was delivered. You are sure you bought it by weight not stack measure. Cheers Chris.
  15. Hi dean would be interested in the timber .Got own 6 wheeler timber lorry with crane so no problem loading .Give me a ring or message me 07970 065953 I am not that far away in P embrokeshire. Cheers Chris.
  16. That is the trouble with dumpy ,builders ,jumbo or what ever you want to call them bags where is the volume stated ,are they .5 .6 .7 or what If they are .5 that makes them £100 and £80 a cubic metre and that seems pretty good.Roll on the day when all logs have to be sold by a stated volume. Cheers Chris.
  17. Agree not seen an 8 wheeler that can carry 3 bays of 2.8 m un less it has a pup of atrailer behind with 1 bay on .Abbey cheer used one of these back in the early 90s. Over my 20 years experiance mixed hardwood 1 tonne to 2 cubic metres loose logs.Cheers Chris.
  18. Hi I don t know what the prices are up your part of the country are but down here in west wales softwood around £28 -£35 a tonne hardwood upwards of £45 a tonne these are roadside so add on your haulage.I have some potatoe boxes and reckon on 2 for 3 cubic metres.I do 95% hardwoods and have always reckoned on 1 tonne of wood to produce 2 cubic metres of loose logs. Hope this helps Chris.
  19. Hi Chippy I am about 3 miles out of Haverfordwest Pembrokeshire. I have a lorry and timber crane so can load them. Cheers Chris.
  20. Got some beech aprox 22 pieces 1.2m or 4 foot long. Smallest about 15 cube, large ones about 25 cube. That is hoppus cubic foot not metric. Cut one in half with the saw and it looks lovely, but I am no saw miller. It just seems too nice to break up for firewood. Contact mobile : 07970065953 Cheers, Chris
  21. For this kind of money you will be looking at 1 cubic metre or less .Look on ebay always plenty on sale there especially as you have the transport sorted. Cheers Chris.
  22. Are you kiln drying your already kiln dried beams or have I read it wrong. I run mine on a mix of larch sitka and beech ,boiler set to 80degrees and fan about number 4 realy only smokes for a few mins on re loading. Any one with one want to say how much they burn in a 24 hour period. I reckon 2 to 2.5 cube. cheers Chris
  23. Stack mine as high as the loader on the lorry can reach always have, probably 6 metres high the wind then gets through all of it.
  24. A little hiab type crane, but then its more money and eats into your payload.
