  1. Bit unsure about "has always had a green finger, until he specialized in trees". sounds like a gardener discovered a love a chainsaw destruction. sounds a bit like me, never come between a farmer and his woodchipper 🙂
  2. Blistering hot, blue sky and I've seen just two airplanes all morning and I'm on the Manchester airport glide path which is worrying. C'mon Ryanair get flying so I can get back to normal rainy weather!.

    Generator

Yeap, it's all about the size of your cable. One would assume a diesel generator with changeover switch would be hard wired with 6 or 10mm. But speak to a decent spark as you'll want to hard wire the connection to maximise the amps of any connection. As a blue plugs are 16,32 or 63a and rated for 6,8 or 16 hours of use. I've a 40kva for the firewood processor and a 3 phase extension 5x6mm and a small mortgage for it.
  4. I'll admit that I have looked at buying a drum of oil, whenever and wherever I've looked it's worked out more expensive or considerably more expensive per litre than. 20/25. Whilst I would go direct, I can't understand how they can charge more Vs their eBay shop and all those fees.
  5. Talk about making up cruel and unusual punishments!. Flail mowing even in a cab with the radio is one of those jobs where I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy, might be ok with air conditioning. I average 50+ hours a year flailing off scrub and grass livestock can't or won't eat.
  6. Unless you're buying large amounts from a dealer and get a great discount, I've been buying via eBay Rotatech 25l or Gator 20l. When you include delivery it's cheaper than going direct. £2 - 2.15 per litre

I'd have thought 20kva would have had enough poke to run everything, it's usually better to run them hard than on tick over. If it was me I'd just not have a shower and use the immersion instead and a smaller generator. Make sure you install a changeover switch to prevent sending power out to the grid

You'll probably want a 1500 rpm diesel if you're running it for any length of time. The immersion heater is that a 3kw in a hot water tank or an actual electric shower ?. If it's an immersion, you'll run your whole house on 10-11KVA circa 10kw.
  9. The youth of today, missing out on all the rights of passage. Bit like hitting you junk against the cross bar!.
  10. In the north west it's call 105. They're usually pretty helpful and get some out within a couple of hours to inspect.
  11. Ring the local DNO, they have in the last 12-18 months increased the clearance from 1.5 to 3m. This is work they do at no cost to the customer.
  12. I'm not knocking any particular brand, I've a horrible direct drive Sip one and an 1950s vintage Ingersoll belt drive. It's slow but the belt drive wins every time, other than a new hose it's like Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way.
  13. 24 litre is relatively small but usable for tyres. It'll be bloody noisy tho, as doobin says a belt drive version are quieter. Belt drive are about talking level, direct drive from experience are ear piercing. Could just be a Friday special but, pay more for maybe a SIP or similar.
  14. Sheep grazing is definitely a good idea
  15. Think they all kinda come out of the same factory regardless of colour, you've also got rock machinery and a few others. Never used a petrol one but if it's long, start high and reduce it over a few runs, tiny bites and all that. Plus you'll even up with a really find mulch that rots quickly, even with a 2m flail running on the tractor it's best to go slow and steady. Or get someone grazing it down and flail off the remains.
  16. Plenty of information on the country court, but guess it's in the 5% fee range. You've lost nothing for trying, but you might get payment once the first court letter from arrives on their desk. Just follow the process to the letter and they might default in your favour providing you do everything right.
  17. Milk delivery ?
  18. I'll bite, everything is better with lubrication. But real men use spit or nothing!. And none of this dihydrogen monoxide stuff, people drown everyday you know!.
  19. Short answer yes, as the debt is against the company and not a specific person. How much are we talking?, Small claims court is the cheapest option after a snotty letter.
  20. It's been a while since I've done it, but if you sand a longer taper over say 1" you can slowly work you way upto the full diameter. It's going to be a pain regardless, I'd just find a local machine shop and they'll do it for a tenner if you're nice and pay cash.
  21. Best to wait until it's piled up and tidy. Plus it all depends on how they have to cut it up to move, the thicker the trunk the smaller the rings Vs weight etc
  22. I'll be nice, no-one is going to do it for free 🙂.
  23. It wouldn't be Johnny's, as pre durex they were mostly of the reusable kind. And no I don't mean turn inside out and pass it around!.
  24. Just don't spend stuff on things you're rarely ever going to use, farming makes the BOAT acronym look tame. As once you've got the toys you'll then need a shed and the ball keeps rolling, I'm not saying don't, just use common sense and only buy what you can afford outright. Your first loss is the largest mentality, in my mind I own outright everything and if it failed I can afford to repair or replace it without going into debt.
  25. 1. When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging!. 2. Always listen to a quiet man. In other words, cut down on the civil service style waffle. Be a man and say you were being a tit and we're more likely to cut you a little slack and move on.
