  1. It isn't that old, being made 1987 week 50 . Btw, it is an early 2101xp, 1987 being the first year.
  2. If the carb adjustment never was checked after it left the factory, it is very likely that a lean carb setting was at least part of the reason that the saw failed. Many models are set on the lean side at the factory, to make sure they pass an emission inspection. The dealer should at least check the adjustment at the point of sale, and preferably ask you to at least come back for a recheck after initial run-in (some say 10 tanks, some say 10 litres of fue)l. The safest way is of course to learn how to do it yourself, and check more often. ...or simply buy an auto-tune saw!
  3. 16" Sugi light in small Husky and .058 is highest on my wish list, then there are Sugi light small Husky light bars in 3/8" (16, 18 and 20"). I was really surpriced that you didn't stock those the firtst time I looked at your site......

    All chain will "stretch" when getting hot, and brand has nothing to do with that stretch, as it is a natural and temporary result of the chain getting hot. It may help to turn the oiling up, and not over tightening the chain in the first place may also help. Remember to remove any added tightening before setting the saw aside so it cools down. Worst case, failing to do so may result in a bent crankshaft. The permanent stretch is a totally different matter, as it really is wear on rivets and in rivet holes.

  8. Those things surely are an annoying add-on, regardless of brand. Getting rid of them usually is about replacing some parts - comparing IPLs to similar models without them will teøll you what to change.
  9. According to their North American web site it is, but for some odd reason it is not listed in Europe? Since there are issues With the VXL, that looks like a bad decition, likely made by the European distributer?
  10. You should check the raker setting, and take them down if needed - not automatically take them down. They aren't always too high. You are right about the cutters
  11. Usually there isn't - but a few "monday saws" does of course happen with all models - regardless of brand.
  12. How can a rim hurt the crankshaft, when it is sitting on the splines of the clutch drum? The new 2014 thing is the CM (M-thronic). I wouldn't want a MS261 regardless if it was trouble free, as it simply isn't what a 50cc saw should be. Too bulky and heavy, and the inboard clutch makes it not handle wsll for limbing etc. The PS5105 partially shares those mistakes.
  13. The 246 basically is the same saw, with a larger bore. Both cylinders are open port. As far as I can see, the only differenses are the top end and the decales (when they are made at the same time). partslist/husqvarna 42 246-1994-12.PDF
  14. Yes, it should be - but likely even better with a 16"? 8-pin .325 means about the same "gearing" as 7-pin 3/8. Personally, I have no plans of using .325 on that saw, but am not fanatic about it. The lack of 3/8" ones in small Husky is keeping me away from buying the Sugi light bars, as is the lack of 16" ones.
  15. Yes to both, but prefere to knock agaist wood, not metal. Gradually twist them when in use. They don't last really long anyway, but it helps. the worst you can do is dragging them back agains the tooth.
  16. It will - but the main "problem" is that the balance of the saw will be quite front heavy - too much so for handling really well. I wouldn't hesitate to use it in a "pinch", but surely wouldn't want it to be the main bar for the saw.
  17. I have got a standard 7-spline drum for my 560, just to try 3/8x8 with a short bar (16"). It worked very well for limbing and bucking smaller trees with my MS361, so I can't see why it wouldn't on the 560. However, I need two legs to stand on before I can do much...

  19. LPX is a little faster and smoother than RS, but both are fine! Definately 3/8" on the 560xp, or at least put a .325x8 on there - .325x7 is meaningless.
  20. Will there be any 16" 66dl .325 Sugihara light bars with the small Husky mount this time? Also, I wonder when the small mount Sugihara bars is going to be availiable in 3/8" (think 560xp etc)?

  23. That is an option, but Meteor still is aftermarket, even though it is one of the better ones. They have a better reputation for their pistons than for the cylinders. Anyway, the 372 doesn't have anywhere near the power of the 390. Personally, I find the 576 a rather heavy and large model, for still basically being a 70cc saw (for a Husky, that is). The model still suffer from being a "first generation" stratified saw.
  24. I looked up an old and a new IPL for the 42 and for the 242. The illustrations all show a windowed piston, but the part numbers are different. Of course the illustations could be "generic" for the model family, so it may not really tell anything.
