Hi Steve hows things all good I hope ,so mullberry is a bugger to dry then ,stunning colour got 8 boards out of the small bit I got a much bigger bit for tomorrow or Friday should get 12/14 inch wide boards from it.

Where in the country are you, not been doing much chainsaw milling since I broke my ankle but I would be up for helping I have an 880 with a 4 ft alaskan

UHi Shaun cool as to hear from you sorry to hear your ankle still gives you grief,what are you doing now you dont mill full time ,my ankle is odd as F##c at home with slippers on its not too bad hurts when I first stand up on it I get some wobbley moments then mostly ok but as soon as I put any kind of boots trainers on my foot feels odd and by 3/4 in the afternoon its giving me a lot of grief ,I have a massage pad that helps a bit my Doc was surprised I got back walking as good as I did let alone back milling I do have to be so carefull in the yard rolling logs around ,but what else am I going to do ,I have found myself drinking a bit more but hey I am lucky they didnt cut my foot off so I will just crack on slowly ,shit happens and we just got to wade through it ,Glad you are doing ok ace to hear from you Take Care Mark

Looks like you have the milling bug ,I use the first cut for rustic legs for benches cut the bench to nice and thick cut a flat shelf on the underside and flat to flat if you get what I mean ,also star gazer chairs are a good use for the first cut ,a small hand winch can also be a good thing to use on the mill but I gave up on mine too much fafing around but a lot of people swear by them Rob D on Chainsawbars has some good vids as does Blaise -
Wow didnt think that it would have been such a big thing,I have given baler twine a go as it was just to hand but it just unravelled, I do lithe idea of heat shrinking something, will have to look into it more. Thanks guys

Thats a cracking bit of kit ,We have an old Makita saw about that big its a monster I was hoping to get an adaptor to run it on the track for the little one we have .

So I Have my grandads old axe it is cool and very old my grandad died when I wad young he was a carpenter in the Welsh coal mines my uncle gave it to me when we made up after yrs of not talking so its kinda precious to me it cuts kindeling well but other people dont care for it like I do and the kneck of the handle where it goes through the head is getting damaged what if anything can I do to protect it as I want to keep its original handle as long as possible but also let it be used

Hi those cylinders will most likely crack but maybe an iorn band top and bottom would help keep the shape so you don't end up with a wonky table, I did similar with a big ball in a cage that cracked, I have an off cut of Walnut that may work its been down a good few yrs but I would say its still green I am not at my yard till Friday now but if you want a picture just let me know I also have some western red off cuts but how interesting is that where are you as you are welcome to come and have a look in the yard -
More questions ,so in all my yrs of milling I havent ever used Borax never had much of a need to I have been quite lucky with not getting mould on boards until now some of the Monkey Puzzle has grown some very impressive mould its as long as 2inch on a window cill I made from some green monkey puz ,its in a barn but now I started to use some from the first lot milled and its a bit green in places so I thought I would get some borax ,so my questions are do you just paint fresh milled boards ,will it make any diffrence to boards milled say 9 month ago that have mould . As always Thanks for your thoughts and advise

The parts only arrived on thursday ,Friday and Saturday morning were spent moving a Mullberry tree that took some digging and after that my ankle hurt all day sunday so no I am not just sat around moaning .
