Pretty simple deadwood we did last week, thought I'd show it as it's the biggest oak I've ever done. We had it at around the 100ft mark maybe slightly less with a 2m dbh. On a sadder note though the house has been put in 2 years ago and the oak is shooting a lot of epi and starting to die back at some of the tips. I'm sure it's had a good innings tho! She had a nice set of swingers (canker) on her that I'm sure some wood carvers would enjoy when it does come down! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app

Think I'm lucky enough that I don't have too much stress but have been reading this thread a bit and walked past a quote that our boss has put up in our office, I like it and thought it might help a bit.... The importance of attitude "The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, then circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think, say, or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past. We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you. We are in charge of our attitudes." Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

Devastating news, really hope they can prevent it before it really takes hold. One of the guys who has just joined us said he has taken down 2 maples in the last year with ash bore as there are so few ash trees left they are moving species. Not good at all!! More work for us tree men but kinda sad when it gets to the point that every ash you climb is dead/dying. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app

My avatar pic was my scariest, black locust that had split at the bottom and had to be dismantled. You can see in the pics my anchor point is horizontal and I had to lower the head out for fear of it smashing up the benches below. Worst bit was when I finished and was cutting down the last 2m of stem it just fell apart as I cut through it. You can see parts of it in the last pic, put a shudder up my spine. Personally I don't think we need the option to remove a post, if you are old enough to write it you should deal with the consequences if it causes offence. Like gensetsteve says don't drink and post if you get a bit mouthy after a few pints, if you cause offence at a bar you can't take back what you've said and it should be the same here. I love this forum and to hear that some people are afraid to speak out for fear of what other might say is saddening. Steve and the mods have a tough enough job I'm sure without having to manage grown men bickering. I think it just boils down to think before you post and re-read what you've typed. I used a dragonfly for a few years and climbed everyday with a 346xp hanging off that small loop in question and it never failed. Can't remember dropping the saw on it but I'm sure it prob happened a few times and it never failed! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app

I had one of these for camping and loved it, might not be great on a rough sea but worth a look. Very strong and great in the wet, the silky is held inside the axe handle with a reasonably strong magnet and the sheath is very durable. Felled a few spindly larch with it! http://www.gerbergear.com/Hunting/Gear/Gator-Combo-Axe-II_22-41420 Hope that works! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app

Cheers, I tried it with 3 wraps and 3 braids but it didn't grip at all so put an extra wrap on it and it's fine. What diameter is your friction cord then?? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app

In work last Thursday and left a few of the guys to fell some pegs when I was away for a couple of hours. Long story short my climbing rope (13mm arbormaster) got shock loaded some how and my boss have me this new rope. Think it's 11mm fire line and I'm using my old b-line on it, just wondering if anyone climbs on similar?? As the rope and friction cord are nearly the same diameter will it cause any problems?? I was always told with a VT you need different diameters. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app

I agree with ant, running in my opinion is a bit much but that's because of how I was taught. Having said that I'd like to think that if I went back to when I started fresh and I was told to run back from the chipper I wouldn't have a problem with it at all. I think you're right that there are fewer youngsters out there with the right mindset but they are out there. I'm pretty young myself (26) and only got my first apprentice in April this year, first impression - cocky s#%t. No experience and tells me one day while I'm thinning a maple to stop as he thinks it's thin enough, he was out of college the month before!! Told him if I wanted any lip from him if undo my zipper. I may get a bit of stick for this bit I'm a big fan of cheesy 80's hair metal!! Been to see whitesnake, def leppard, maiden, Bon jovi (only like his old stuff), tyketto and a few others Maiden in Brixton academy was my first concert and prob the best, just unreal. Went to see Steel Panther on a trip in Vegas, got invited back stage, met the entire band and they told us to come the next night. Went back and they got us up on stage during the gig, brilliant night!!...oh yea and we dressed up.. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app

Zubat and just got the leg straps which are great. It's good and stiff, you can take it out and put it away with one hand but I won't let anyone else touch it unless they're gentle with it...too far??ha Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app

Unfortunately I didn't get to go up and have a look the pics were taken by a friend up there. I find it quite odd that it split at a near 45degree angle to the lean and it was a heavy lean. In this picture the house in the background is the one the tree was leaning directly over. Must be a combination of wind direction and areas where the rot had set in I guess.
