  1. you should try reading everything it's not the fact they were dealing only in cash it was the fact they then said nobody knows how much they sell. thats the bit which implies they are fiddling it's not a guarantee they are dodgy but they implied it. I have already told you several times I haven't reported anyone and this was started because of the people further back complaining they couldn't sell any logs and were packing it in, my sales are up on last year, I was mearly giving an opinion on an option they should consider, I do believe the dislike of the idea expressed here is very telling on how you are operating your businesses way too much aggression imo for you not to be dodging a bit.
  2. anyone using trailcams for security, caught a thief this afternoon but can't decide which to buy. any recommendations. thinking along the lines of Buy Spypoint Mini Live and Mini Live 4G Cellular wildlife camera trap - shop at suppliers Scott Country
  3. I can be certain because I have spoken to some who have said they will only take cash that way nobody knows how much they sell that's a pretty clear point they are fiddling. didn't think you would need something so obvious to be written down you should be able to work this kind of thing out for yourself.
  4. only reason I would now consider it is the fact they burned the forwarder already which obviously was the most expensive item we had. the fact the fire extinguishers were removed makes us believe it's someone with experience in forestry/firewood or machinery sales unlikely we will ever find out although police reckon it's a rival merchant. rest of the machinery is getting old and not that valuable
  5. you don't need facts if you choose to you can report suspicion about everyone it's HMRC who will find the facts. it's down to your conscience I personally would only report people I was certain were doing it and as the couple of people I know were evading have stopped with logs I don't have to all I said was I've reached my limit for ignoring it because it's impacting my sales in a big way now.
  6. you make your own mind up depends what you see and hear what I might decide makes me think someone is on the fiddle isn't necessarily what you would think and vice versa. in some cases they will tell you if you happen to speak to them a lot of people think it's quite acceptable, just look at the posts today because I suggested people should consider it.
  7. thats the attitude which means nothing will change, you can make it hard for the beer money guys instead of sitting back with this apathetic attitude.
  8. selling for cash not declaring the tax.
  9. you seem desperate for an argument, for 1 thing I said there was no need for me to report people down south as you don't impact me, that's for others around you to do if necessary and if your running legitimately then why would anyone need to report you, as long as your paying your tax on your sales I doubt anyone cares what your doing.
  10. I didnt pocket money no, I was Vat registered in the first month and we have always asked to be paid by cheque. when I started I had enough money to buy some basic equip, some timber and carry me through the first season. I never had to fiddle tax. for 8 years I have ignored it but it's now impacting on me and I don't see why I should sit back and say on you go chaps run your illegal businesses and put me on the dole queue because I shouldn't report you. I roughly make 3-400 sales in a season and I get less than 5 paying cash everyone is now paying BACS faster and cheaper.
  11. I said I would only report people I suspect of dodging not because they are cheaper than me. I have no problem with healthy competition just those using illegal means for an advantage. that's not entrepreneurship that's criminal activity.
  12. it's for the tax to investigate, the page says don't investigate yourself let them do it. follow the link below there's a couple of options on the page. for not paying tax or cash in hand pay. http://www.gov.uk/report-an-unregistered-trader-or-business to the other comment, reporting is looking after your own business, every year it gets harder to make a living because people will always try the cheaper logs they can't help themselves, it doesn't matter what quality you are selling there is no customer loyalty any more. you might choose to let these people put you out of business but I have no desire to shut down and get a job working for someone else. amazon etc are running their businesses legal it might be immoral what they are doing but not illegal and I buy majority of my goods from local shops although I do use amazon costa starbucks etc occassionaly. I do think it quite revealing the responses to this not to get rid of the rogue traders. I have a broad back your insults have no effect. clearly the tax should be having a very close look at the people on this forum.
  13. I'm talking about the people blatantly dodging tax and undercutting to put honest people out of business not because their price is a bit lower, from your indignation presumably you are one of them. why should I let them run a dodgy business and put me out of business. you have a legal obligation to report people not paying tax. what I spent on a delivery vehicle has nothing to do with it.
  14. I have no experience with any of their equipment, I had links to some american ones similar and I think also new zealand or australian version but I've lost all the links.
  15. [ame=http://vimeo.com/69868079]TB 900 Automatic vertical wood splitter Pezzolato firewood processor on Vimeo[/ame] a few other similar machines around but cant find any links for them
  16. one of the problems is people thinking you cant ask more than your competition, there are alot of people on here have said I cant ask £100 a bag coz joe bloggs down the road is selling for £50 and that's just nonsense, within 3 months of starting we put our prices at about 40% higher than everyone else's and we still got orders and the competition are upping their prices year on year and closing the gap on us. I do wonder at the reluctance to shop the beer money guys, they undercut and make life very hard. my tolerance for them is exhausted and I will report any I find round my way now, just lucky most who post here are far enough away that they don't effect me.
  17. I'll deliver dunoon she just needs to buy 8 bulk to make it worthwhile.
  18. what size bags
  19. winch on the posch seems all right just don't think of it as a skidder going to haul a 10 ton log.
  20. horizontal lets you load with a crane and do much bigger stuff faster but going horizontal I would want 2m version so you can put easily onto a processor deck.
  21. nifty little lift on this splitter great idea.
  22. there's also multiteks log buster if you don't fancy anything mentioned so far. think it's 100 ton splitting force.
  23. depends on the wheelbase, they only allow 70kg for a driver anymore comes off your payload also fuel has to come off the payload, spare wheel might not be included so that has to come off, also theres no guarantee the vehicle actually weighs what it say in the book. we had 4x 0.73m3 bags in tha back of the sprinter 20-22%mc and we got done for being something like 480kg overloaded. we weighed the bags after they put us over the weighbridge and they were 280kg each but we could only carry 2 legally. we used to build them into the van and run with 7 for long distances. the new truck had the sparewheel and cage etc cut off to save on weight.
  24. 3m3 in the back your overloaded, you have a payload of 1.2t ish from that you need to take spare wheel, people, fuel etc that takes you down to 900kg maybe 1000kg available. 1m3 seasoned weighs 550kg?
