  1. There must be lots of us that make our own, or try to make, or want to make our own buildings/ log drying sheds/ hay barns/ storage shelters/ roundwood structures, etc. I'm no professional carpenter by any standard but always willing to learn more. eg; - size of fixings according to the thickness of timber. - width of a mortice joint according to the thickness of the beam - preventing roof condensation/ and rot in posts at ground level - any other stuff! cheers, steve
  2. I mean
  3. Hopefully the green karma monster will get 'em!! That'll teach 'em!! um, and the rest of us Here's to another thumbs down: and another....
  4. If you want to win you need to use the power of 'Greenwash'!!..... (available at all major supermarkets and multinational corporations).
  5. It's an absolute disgrace you didn't win. Thumbs down  and more thumbs down.... Two more thumbs down  and six more thumbs down go here:   (that was five thumbs down) Here's the missing sixth thumbs down cheers, steve
  6. Isn't that what Mr Labradors do when the bitch is on heat? Hope this helps! cheers, Steve
  7. Worth looking at the Anssems trailers..... http://www.anssems.eu/PDF/Anssems_KSX_ENG.pdf Humbaur are also supposed to be very good. cheers, steve
  8. Thanks for all responses from the Arbtalk Massive! .... so sound like if we chip at 1" maximum (or a little less) we should be fine. That's great, cheers, steve
  9. There's a link to 'Arbtrader' at the top right of this page. cheers, steve
  10. I imagine the Brian James trailer would have a higher used re-sale value so the extra money spent can probably mostly be clawed back when you sell it on. Cheers, steve
  11. It might all get swallowed by a sink hole before the meteorite smashes the entire county to pieces. Sleep tight.
  12. okay, cheers
  13. Now hang on a minute, I was the one that mentioned storm damage!
  14. Do you know if you get regrowth from willow chips?
  15. I wouldn't be worried about the whole tree falling over, not likely... but do you have big overhanging branches over your house?.... potential storm damage. cheers, steve
  16. Rob at http://www.chainsawbars.co.uk
  17. I wouldn't say woodchip used as a mulch for paths is a waste at all.... especially when you consider the alternatives; ie paving, cement, tarmac, pressure treated boards and grass (that needs constant trimming with a petrol powered device). There are also the beneficial bugs and mycorrhizal fungi to plant benefits. Far worse is to burn the stuff. cheers, Steve
  18. We have a bunch of big oaks that went down too. Part of me wants to mill them into big sections for a rustic building.... but they do look amazing just lying down in the woods untouched, and give some great habitat. Some of our oaks have fallen over in the past (many years ago) and re grown a main stem from branches. They are also amazing. If I mill them they won't have the opportunity to grow again. Decisions, decisions! cheers, steve
  19. Weird! Are you sure it's a fungi inside and not a furry poo?
  20. oh Lordy! At that price I'd keep them in a locked cabinet next to the Moet!
  21. You just said it! (nothing).
  22. Haha! Lost count of how many people have said that. Does look great but it's not up to building regs standards on insulation. cheers, Steve
  23. Our barn is clad with waney edge larch. My favourite bits are where there's lichen on the bark. Ours was clad in winter when the boards were still green (very green). Best to have a good sized overlap I think. Stainless steel fixings are very expensive. We went with standard fixings.... yeah, they rust.... but who cares? they are cheaper and it's a rustic building. However, I would use stainless or other suitable coated fittings with oak. cheers, Steve
  24. I'm a fungi because I'm a fungi. Dya get it?... Fungi Fun gi (Fun guy) Next step is to change my name to Theresa Green ~ but that would involve a bit of tree surgery.
  25. How long have you had yours, do they seem to last? cheers, steve
