  1. Quite a few recommendations for Skellerup wellies in a farmers forum.... these are £72. I didn't know inflation had gone up that much, I thought an expensive welly would cost in the region of £20 max! http://www.welly-king.co.uk/Skellerup-QUATRO-SAFETY-INSULATED-KNEE-Wellington-boots.html
  2. I've had the Dunlop Puroforts (steel toe cap version) and it looks like it's the same material (PU).... they are very comfortable and flexible but I think are only suitable for walking the dog and splashing about in muddy puddles. I took my wellies in for a re-glue at our local shoe repair shop and the owner said modern synthetic rubber isn't anywhere near as long lasting as wellies with a high rubber content. He also said that our natural resource for rubber has been declining, hence why they now tend to use synthetic materials/ or a mix of synthetic & rubber. I need a new pair of wellies/ work boots soon so this is a useful thread. cheers, steve
  3. Durable?..... I doubt it. cheers, steve
  4. I had some Dunlop Puroforts.... the rubber on the steel toe cap got spilt within a matter of weeks and then the side of one of them got slit open on a small blackthorn (or may have been Hawthorn). This modern synthetic welly boot rubber is flexible and comfortable.... unfortunately it doesn't last 5 minutes! That's my thoughts. cheers, steve
  5. Come on Engl.... oh, don't bother! I'm off to bed.
  6. Weathers been amazing ain't it.
  7. Doh! This ipad is really bad at automatic spelling... I meant to say "Old Spice".... which, um... smells nicer than a badgers todger? Perhaps?
  8. I did my CS30 & CS31 with Murray (slack~ma~girdle).... and although he smells like a badgers todger.... I'd highly recommend him to anyone for training. cheers, steve
  9. Every time a frog or toad appears it takes me back to being a child. That's a priceless feeling. cheers, steve
  10. oooooch. You could have waited to post that late this evening.... not just before teatime!! *barf*
  11. Sorry, didn't mean to be teaching you how to suck eggs Are you growing your own feed?.... we're looking to reduce our feed costs by planting stuff and rotating them around a quarter plot every 28 days. cheers, steve
  12. Do you do any farm gate sales?.... proper free range eggs always sell well, if they are good. I don't mean supermarket so called free range.... I mean proper free range. People like a proper fresh free range egg with a proper yellow yolk and proper egg taste. It's where it's at! You can keep up to 50 hens without the bureaucratic nonsense/ having to test for Salmonella, etc.... you do need to be selling direct to the consumer though. We sell half a dozen eggs at £1.50. Cheers, steve
  13. This ram lock looks good.... Blockstem - Derwent Trading International Ltd
  14. We have a little Ansemms single axle trailer. (model PSX1300).. Gross is 1300kg with a 1080kg payload.... it's non-tipping. However!! My Lordy what a trailer!.... on the farm I've loaded it up with big lumps of green oak, umpteen overloaded trailers of shale and in one hit it carried two full pallets of red bricks + four railway sleepers. I recently used it as a flatbed trailer to move 800 square bales of hay (40 at a time). Next trailer we get will be a tipping Anssems or Humbaur. Ifors are rubbish in comparison. cheers, steve
  15. Not a problem if you're wearing a helmet with a rain cover at the back. chees, steve
  16. Apparently VW's are going cheap at the moment Jon!
  17. After a ten point lead into the second half England probably felt it was all theirs.... but yeah, the Welsh always push as hard as they can and that relentless determination won them the game. I'm 75% English and 25% Welsh, we've only lived in Wales for a few years - something that has become very clear to me is how proud the Welsh are to be Welsh. You can see that shine through in the way they play rugby (even though they usually tend to lose). England should take the same Welsh determination to the Australia game. cheers, steve
  18. Try telling that to the people that used to plant thousands upon thousands of trees before Roundup was invented. cheers, steve
  19. Chin up mate.
  20. You are entitled to your opinion; I just happen to disagree with it. cheers, steve
  21. Yaaaaaaaay!! Great game. Best flag wins
  22. I predict the half time score will be 16 England - Wales 9
  23. What grant insists on spraying with Roundup? cheers, steve
  24. I'm not sure Jon, I guess it may help a little but I believe oaks do well from having nurse trees, like Silver Birch. We have loads and loads of oak saplings & small trees around our farm by natural regeneration and it looks like they are doing very well. I'm not sure they would do so well without the nurse trees.... although saying that I have left one very small oak tree that planted itself in one of the wettest parts of our fields (with no nurse trees/ out in the open) and it's also doing very well. Personally, I'd steer clear of willow.... go for Alder (like Murray suggested), silver birch, oak and anything else you fancy. Here's a question: I'm wondering what's the case with the Ash dieback scare? I've not seen or heard of any near us. Maybe we have a wide enough variety of native Ash in the UK that its not going to be such a problem? We're going to attempt planting a bunch of Sweet Chestnut on one of the drier parts of the farm. We're also looking to get our Hazel stools back into rotation.... and will probably layer a lot of them to create a higher density. Have you thought about Hazel Jon? cheers, steve
