  1. I've been thinking about what to do for our barn floor.... I quite like the cobbled look of 'end grain block flooring' or 'Cordwood flooring', maybe search google and click on images for a bit of inspiration. cheers, steve
  2. We have plenty of room so we could space them out, or if there is benefit in planting them close together then we could do that.... we get a bit of funding towards it from Glastir, hence we are contracted for planting over 300 trees. If Ben Law plants at 2m I think that's good enough for me!.... could also plant a couple of lines a bit further apart, eg 5m. Thanks for all the thoughts & advice cheers, steve
  3. We have acid soil. cheers, steve
  4. South facing slope.... damp climate.... errr, where isn't damp?! Today I noticed a section of the field is particularly more squishy than the rest so think I might try to drain that area a bit. Good call. cheers, Steve
  5. Yep, for fencing posts, gates, hurdles, bean poles, etc.... that kind of thing, not particularly big stuff. Although we could leave some to grow big, just for the hell of it. I read somewhere that said 7m apart (sounds like a large distance to me).... is 2m too close? I dunno?! hmmm cheers, steve
  6. Even better.... we could have a 'Thread Amnesty' thread where we throw down our dodgy threads. (works a bit like gun amnesty, where people give up their guns voluntarily). cheers, steve
  7. I'm hearing the ****Eastenders drum roll goes here**** cheers, Steve p.s.... Jon, your inbox is full. Chill out dude!
  8. Hey Jon.... there ya go mate. It's not just for you.... there are lots of us that have posted threads we probably shouldn't have. In the long run it'll be better for the forum. I'm sure of that. cheers, steve
  9. Not sure Jon. Maybe the moderators are deleting old threads that aren't deemed relevant to the forum?.... not just your threads, I imagine it'd be the same for everyone. I've probably done a few myself! cheers, Steve
  10. We're going to be planting about 300 Sweet Chestnut transplants & whips as a coppice. What kind of spacing should we be planting them at? Other top tips also appreciated.... cheers, steve
  11. It's okay. It's the end of the day. You've probably eaten too many pancakes, right? cheers, steve
  12. Check out the subject.... says Bristol. cheers, steve
  13. It's good to see new technologies. I've often thought how useful it would be to have tracks and wheels.... the wheels would lift up the tracks enabling higher travelling speeds and less wear on the track components. Has anyone made such a thing yet? Anything that only has wheels is useless in our current boggy landscape. cheers, steve
  14. Man and Woman (but mostly man) made Climate Change Jon. We are billions of virus's floating around on this thing we have named Planet Earth. Oh well, nevermind.... the Sun will consume it all one day. How amazingly insignificant we all are! cheers, steve
  15. Yeah it's been a weather weird day today alright. Felt like a summers day mid morning and I was down to a t-shirt.... half an hour later I was freezing cold. Then it hailed and our Pickle (Jack Russell) wasn't liking that battering one bit.... I encouraged the chickens to walk out of the barn into the sunshine and then they walked back in again. Also found two of our Warre bee hives had blown over in the severe gales.... but the bees had a lucky escape because of how the box landed. I should have fitted ratchet straps to the hives months ago but somehow that job slipped off the list! Overall, it's been brrrrrrrrrrrzzzz freeeeezing. cheers, steve
  16. Yes, it does look rather nice doesn't it.
  17. Mr Silky Fox will probably be along shortly....
  18. I only have one saw.... a Husky 550xpg (heated handle version). I'm very happy with it. Running on a 15" bar 99% of the time but also have an 18" bar should the need arise. If it were me I'd go for the 550 over the 560 because you already have a bigger saw. The early 550's and 560's seem to be the ones with all the problems but as far as I can gather most/ or all those problems got ironed out. Main bonus with the 550 is the power to weight ratio. cheers, steve
  19. How did we manage to get to page 2 before anyone even mentioned the ultimate Silky Saw... the Natanoko. cheers, steve
  20. Satisfying?!!!!! Whaaaaat!!! Are you craaaaazy or summink?!
  21. Who's body?
  22. I once tried just using a plain old file and found that trying to cut a tree into pieces was a right faf. cheers, eteve
  23. That looks proper posh. Looks well made and nice that you don't need a 12v battery. Would you say it's a quicker method for getting a chain accurately sharp when compared with a hand file and roller guide? cheers, steve
  24. If they move any further to the right it could get hung up in the centre and it would also be closer to the person in the tree. I'd say they've got it spot on. The picture could make a nice 3,000 piece jigsaw! Not got much else to say about this.... cheers, steve
  25. That's exactly what I was thinking too but couldn't be bothered to say it. The building on the left looks kind of interesting. The person in the tree is wearing a helmet. It's not raining. um, Not really got much else to say about this. I'm drinking a cup of tea right now. cheers, Steve
