  1. A few cotton wool buds smeared with petroleum jelly, vaseline, etc works great.
  2. Everyone....Thanks for sharing - is really good & interesting to read everyones thoughts/ feelings across the spectrum. Before i wrote the thread I did think about the flooded people, and yeah it is very sad to know people are going through that, and also what's been going on in other places around the world, syria, etc. My being down-in-the-dumps is completely & utterly insignificant on that scale! It's been a lovely day today as well so life is good again. yay!! happy days!! Got the following jobs done..... - finished a cold frame (pallet wood/ reclaimed double glazing unit) - moved 5 car loads full of recently fallen spruce branches (for the dead hedge base) - moved loads of polytunnel hoops ... birds have been tweeting nicely as well. Bring on the 2014 Spring/ Summer. p.s.... I find the full moon tries to suck my face out of the window. Freaks me out!

    What Brands

Best to steer clear of Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrisons, Asda, Lidl, Aldi, M&S, Iceland, Budgens, Costcutter, The Co Operative, Londis, Mace, Nisa, Spar and Waitrose. Grow your own
  4. Great work. If I had only had one to choose from I'd go for the bench; looks solid and should last for some time.
  5. Today was the first day, for some time where it's been a lovely sunny day without rain and/ or too much strong wind. Was only when i got home that i reflected on how miserable i've been feeling, what with being indoors so much and not being able to get on with loads of jobs that need doing. Just wondering if anyone else has been feeling a bit down-in-the-dumps with the weather? cheers, steve
  6. The 550xp manual says: Needle bearing lubrication ...has to be greased regularly (once a week). CAUTION! Use a high-quality bearing grease or engine oil.
  7. Windy again, hopefully not as strong as the last winds we had two days ago. Most worrying thing is that the wind direction is from the East so the trees are gonna be rocking in the opposite direction.... further loosening of the roots.
  8. I've fitted a few brand new spark plugs that have been faulty, misfired in my time, (although this hasn't happened very often). It's probably due to the parts department chucking things around rather than any manufacturing fault. I'd have done the same
  9. Thats a very good point.... if its stood up to these winds cant be that bad, surely?
  10. I would suggest Trading Standards if i thought they were any good at sorting out trading standards. I'm not suggesting Trading Standards.
  11. A couple of showers of hail earlier - beautiful sunny day now. Been picking up branches from the road. Had a tall spruce uprooted but it missed the road and didn't get hung up.... was planning on felling that one anyway so it's saved me a job! Thankyou for that Mr Storm
  12. oh, okaaay. Could you send me all of your beer instead, please Spud? I'm always happy to help out with these kinds of things... You really don't need it, honestly, I'd be doing you a favour.....
  13. Hey folks, dya hear that?!! ....if we send Tobimax a bunch of text messages a crate of beer arrives. Yay, happy days!!
  14. *Phew* a big sigh of relief from here. Try to keep your stress levels as low as possible hereon (i imagine they've been off the scale!). Dont hesitate to ask the forum for help if you need some.....
  15. Not quite - I'm thinking along the lines of using the saw on the tree (exactly where it is felled) rather than taking the tree to the saw. If that makes sense? Working alone so nothing too bulky/heavy. This is where the Alaskan excels..... being truly portable. But the downside of the Alaskan is the wide kerf of the chain & thus, the speed of cut.
  16. That's the way I see it as well. eg; I'm needing to cut a load of cladding for our barn and could really do with something that wastes less wood in the cut & is faster than a chainsaw mill. Something easily portable to be set up in the wood, cut a bunch of planks, and be completely removed at the end of the day. I guess you could call it the Alaskan Bandsaw Mill, or Alaskan Circular Saw Mill.... working on the same principle as the Alaskan Chainsaw Mill but without the chain! *patent idea pending*
  17. Well said Simon. I also wish John every success, and hope he can use some of the comments here in a positive way for his product development.
  18. ....you sure that isn't that a Brown Alert?
  19. Thankyou Tony, I've taken a sample of the lichen from the tree to send off for a confirmation.
  20. Yeah, and I thought the BBC used MET Office alert colours, but there was a tangerine segment on the map last night.
  21. Been getting confused with all the various alerts.... is Red Alert worse than Black Alert, or is the Tangerine Orange Alert worse than both put together, Purple Alert looks really bad.
  22. Very strong winds & horizontal rain here in Pembrokeshire and it's forecasted to be getting stronger this afternoon.
  23. Oh dear, i'm sorry to hear this matey. Really hope everything turns out positively for you all. There's lots of support for you from everyone here.... Best wishes, Steve
  24. "Can we talk about climate change now?" reads the banner from the recently flooded Oxford residents. Climate change is making the world sick - News - The Ecologist Why hasn't such a critical subject been properly discussed at Parliament, or run as a continuous headline by the newspapers, etc? It's a good question to begin with.... "Can we talk about climate change now?".... Cheers, steve
  25. Winds are starting to build up here in Pembrokeshire, supposed to be very very strong later. good weather for, um, errr... nothing.
