  1. another daft thought, is there much demand for 40-50ft timber beams etc. even if there was only a handful of logs cut a year? could you offer over sized douglas fir as an equivalent to laminated beams and make a reasonable profit? or one piece cladding that spans the whole length of the build is anyone able to produce or needed sizes they couldnt get? Thanks
  2. expensive but almost ready to go Volvo N10 6x6 LHD drop side cargo truck with Fassi F75.21 crane ex military for sale / NATO army
  3. it would work well with a drag trailer meaning greater load but that needs another operators ticket. watch with the prices too the one pictured is their best and the price stated is for the one they rolled 6 years ago:001_smile:
  4. yes, its a h & s nightmare. you will need the correct pulleys to get good blade speed as most motors are 1450 rpm and tractors best is around 1035 rpm. if you are doing it position the tractor well clear from the working area and bolt the planer down to stop vibrations, also takes up huge amount space in the workshop for a tractor or access to the pto point. also why dose it need to be pto? is there no 3 phase or motor. its much easier to get a 3ph genset for the pto and use the machine as is

  11. hi everyone what model of stenner bandmill works with a 7 to 8'' band and the length of the band is around 30'? the carriage is air operated or part air operated with 4 heads for working in timber from 3 - 4' in diameter? it rules out the 36, 42 and 48 and will be in the region of 20 years old. any help is much appreciated thanks Graham
  12. i would be keen for a larger thicknesser in scotland
  13. actually not a problem at all! these older lumps of cast are built to work and if set up correct will eat anything. not too long ago i was asked to thickness 20''wide sycamore boards that were badly bowed out of it, adjusted the pressure over the infeed rollers on the thicknesser to squeeze them flat as they passed through, just to be sure for an accurate finish. could a wide drum chipper not be fitted with planer blades and slighty modified to plane large timbers? already mobile and diesel engined lol
  14. what is the average weight of kilned oak at around 10%mc per ft3?

  18. dont use any old friction style blocks and or cutters, even if you are paid to take them they are extremely dangerous because the cutters fall out in use
  19. the planer is a Jackson Kitchener from the states. i was speaking to a local fencer today that came across a larger planer thicknesser abandoned in the ruins of a workshop somewhere in the hills:laugh1: this sounds too good to be true!
  20. before and after planing. they will need drying so they may come back to go for a second run in 3-4 months
  21. i have a 610mm planer thicknesser so the boards are cut to its capacity. the boards are coming off the saw so clean and straight you could sand them down with little effort:001_cool: i will get some photos tomorrow, they are lovely boards!
  22. hello i have an order for elm boards at 50mm x 600mm by 3 meters (2''x24'' x10') in length with one waney edge the logs have been cut for over 4 years and the guy wants the wood planed to the finished size i have never really milled any hardwood before so what would you charge per cubic foot? thanks Graham
