    Itton log drop

I will pay for logs! Amount varies from beer to actual folding money, depending on volume, species, size of logs etc. (Thinner logs and smaller pieces are generally easier for me to handle). I will take hardwood and softwood or a mixture, and also a limited amount of woodchip, preferably seasoned rather than fresh. I will ideally need a bit of advance notice, and you will need to contact me via Arbtalk for directions. There are access limitations - max vehicle size is approx 8 foot wide. But plenty of space to offload once you're in. Note that dot on map and postcode are not exact, just a guide. Thanks.
  3. Sorted, thanks Steve. 👍
  4. @Steve Bullman again?
  5. Thanks Steve, but I don't have the option to delete, just to edit? Desktop PC, Firefox browser...
  6. Hi Steve Sorry if I'm being an idiot, but is there a way to change a free tip site to a paid tip site? And if not, how do I delete my existing free tip site to set up a paid tip site? I've edited my existing site but can't see a way to delete it altogether. Thank you.
  7. That's kind of the point of pottering. I go out to the garage to fuel a hedge cutter to trim the hedge. But the tractor is in the way, so I try to start the tractor to move it, but the battery's flat. So I go looking for the charger. Have a cup of tea, eventually find charger, plug tractor battery in. But the shelf the battery charger was on is slightly broken, so start fixing that in a leisurely way. Then the wife or / and kids come home, or the phone rings, so nothing else gets done. And I realise I forgot to turn the battery charger on after plugging the tractor battery in!
  8. Fair point. I burn 5 - 10m3 per year I'd say, so can cope with a fair amount. Easier to process and fit if it comes as several smaller loads rather than one big load, perhaps.
  9. Hi folks Looking into the possibility of buying a (smallish) load of unseasoned, unprocessed wood near Chepstow. Don't mind species really, including conifers - as long as the price reflects this. (Not horse chestnut or poplar, perhaps) Ideally nothing larger than 30cm diameter ish - coppice poles would be OK! This is to process and burn myself, the winter after next. Access isn't great, 8 foot wide maximum over a small bridge... Anyone local have anything like this? Cash waiting. I'm on the tip site but nothing has ever come of it... Thanks.
  10. How did it taste?
  11. Too late! The gone off sardines are mine!
  12. What's the minimum order, Steve? Personal use only (four or five bags maybe) and delivered to Chepstow? I'm going to guess not worth it for small volumes! Better to find a local supplier. Have a bump anyway!
  13. Sounds good. You have been blessed by the plum gods! I'd say 70% of ours have maggots, usually.
  14. What did you make? We have a very prolific plum tree here, but the moth maggots get a good proportion of them.
  15. Hooray! This is pretty exciting! Will pm you my address for the gone off sardines 😎
  16. 1350kg?
  17. It makes it dill-dough!
  18. I'm personal use only, so not many really.
  19. Damn, that's shite. I will try and buy direct in future.
  20. I tend to buy wood wool firelighters from them. Their prices and service are pretty good. But didn't know they didn't pay their suppliers...
  21. I've got 50 or so tree tubes near Chepstow. They're used and mostly cut open, but would still work with cable ties... Free! But probably not worth coming a long way for.
  22. I do similar to the OP - home logging only, but a good bit of it, 8m3 per year maybe. I have a petrol Makita EA3500, a mains 240V Titan and a battery Ferrex (Aldi) saw. They each have their place, both the elec saws are good at cutting at home. The Ferrex is surprisingly competent for a cheapy (I think it was about £100 with battery and charger) and I often pick it up for a quick prune, or logging up to 6" maybe. It's not super quick, but it will get there, and it's quiet, pretty reliable. It does leak chain oil sometimes. Get spare batteries. Mains Titan is more powerful, cheap, and also pretty quick and easy, but obviously you need a very long extension lead to get it to the woods! The chain oiler can clog up a bit if left too long - clear mine out with isopropyl alcohol. Makita is more powerful still, and I run it on fuel with stabiliser added, so I can leave 2 stroke in the tank for a year or more. (Never left it this long, but it seems to work - pick it up after a couple of months, start it on 2nd pull or so). If I could just have one saw it would be the Makita I suppose as it can cope with everything I need everywhere I might need it - but it's nice to have the battery option, and the mains too occasionally. Simple answer is always more saws!
  23. Had my chimneys swept too early, in April! Wanted to leave them clean over summer!
  24. Gave in and put the heating on. Rubbish
