  1. Hi folks Looking into the possibility of buying a (smallish) load of unseasoned, unprocessed wood near Chepstow. Don't mind species really, including conifers - as long as the price reflects this. (Not horse chestnut or poplar, perhaps) Ideally nothing larger than 30cm diameter ish - coppice poles would be OK! This is to process and burn myself, the winter after next. Access isn't great, 8 foot wide maximum over a small bridge... Anyone local have anything like this? Cash waiting. I'm on the tip site but nothing has ever come of it... Thanks.
  2. How did it taste?
  3. Too late! The gone off sardines are mine!
  4. What's the minimum order, Steve? Personal use only (four or five bags maybe) and delivered to Chepstow? I'm going to guess not worth it for small volumes! Better to find a local supplier. Have a bump anyway!
  5. Sounds good. You have been blessed by the plum gods! I'd say 70% of ours have maggots, usually.
  6. What did you make? We have a very prolific plum tree here, but the moth maggots get a good proportion of them.
  7. Hooray! This is pretty exciting! Will pm you my address for the gone off sardines 😎
  8. 1350kg?
  9. It makes it dill-dough!
  10. I'm personal use only, so not many really.
  11. Damn, that's shite. I will try and buy direct in future.
  12. I tend to buy wood wool firelighters from them. Their prices and service are pretty good. But didn't know they didn't pay their suppliers...
  13. I've got 50 or so tree tubes near Chepstow. They're used and mostly cut open, but would still work with cable ties... Free! But probably not worth coming a long way for.
  14. I do similar to the OP - home logging only, but a good bit of it, 8m3 per year maybe. I have a petrol Makita EA3500, a mains 240V Titan and a battery Ferrex (Aldi) saw. They each have their place, both the elec saws are good at cutting at home. The Ferrex is surprisingly competent for a cheapy (I think it was about Β£100 with battery and charger) and I often pick it up for a quick prune, or logging up to 6" maybe. It's not super quick, but it will get there, and it's quiet, pretty reliable. It does leak chain oil sometimes. Get spare batteries. Mains Titan is more powerful, cheap, and also pretty quick and easy, but obviously you need a very long extension lead to get it to the woods! The chain oiler can clog up a bit if left too long - clear mine out with isopropyl alcohol. Makita is more powerful still, and I run it on fuel with stabiliser added, so I can leave 2 stroke in the tank for a year or more. (Never left it this long, but it seems to work - pick it up after a couple of months, start it on 2nd pull or so). If I could just have one saw it would be the Makita I suppose as it can cope with everything I need everywhere I might need it - but it's nice to have the battery option, and the mains too occasionally. Simple answer is always more saws!
  15. Had my chimneys swept too early, in April! Wanted to leave them clean over summer!
  16. Gave in and put the heating on. Rubbish
  17. Thanks Dan. It's ancient, and the diameter seemed to be a shade under 10mm, so I've ordered one in 1/8 BSP.
  18. Thanks chaps. Hadn't thought of putting a flexi hose and new coupler on mine, will see if I can figure out the thread etc. If not I'll look at the other suggestions. Cheers.
  19. Hi folks As above really. For years I've used an old all metal one my dad gave me, but it doesn't seem to grip the nipples tightly (ooh er!) and often leaks grease rather than getting it into the fitting. (Even if I fit new grease nipples and clear out old grease) It also leaks grease on to me. So I'd like a new one. Still manual, I don't do enough greasing to need electrical. But I'd like a flexible tube to the grease head - my current one is rigid and difficult to get onto awkward nipples (insert inuendo of choice here 😲), if wheel and chassis parts get in the way. Fuchs? Samoa? What do people recommend. Lower priced the better, this is for home use only not business. But I do want one that works well and gets the grease in properly. Budget £30 ish? Will that do? Thanks.
  20. Where did you buy them from, out of interest?
  21. Yep. I booked a chimney sweep a month ago thinking it would be warm enough and that I could keep the chimneys soot free until next winter. He came earlier this week, and now it's cold!
