Thanks Spud, guessed that's how it went not got it stripped down yet , waiting on the rear mount to turn up which is why I guess its worked its way out as its totally shot and noticed it during cleaning it up likewise the circlip issue. I have ordered a circlip but sounds like its not essential just saw there was the groove in the shaft so made me wander when I couldn't see one on the ipl. Also going to do crank seals as a matter of course but gone down the standard rather than the bakelite type seals originally fitted.

Couple of ms200t/020t questions guys not having worked on 1 before and don't seem to be able to find a workshop manual online.. Firstly inlet boot, im guessing the end "lip" that attaches to the carb is meant to be under the plate and not just sat on it so can peal it back with your finger! (yup bad near non existant rear a.v mount) Secondly the chain brake linkage, on normal stihl's there is a circlip that goes on the pivot shaft to stop the linkage coming off (chances are it wouldn't as the torsion return spring holds it in place) however theres not one on the saw, the ipl doesn't show one but there is a groove in the shaft for one?

You would be scared as to how many of these they have. Makes me laugh as "health and safety" make them wear a bike helmet when they road test them...

Its actually in supacats build/storage yard at Dunkeswell Rich and just come out after having been sprayed up after build so not got any info really. I go in there about once a week so may pump and see if I can get some further info or more sneaky pics if poss and its still there. Noones said I couldn't take pics but obviously with what they build I have to be a little careful.

to manoeuvre this beast around. Not sure what its been made for an RNLI lifeboat I reckon (Rich??) . Trailer is fitted with a conveyor belt. Hard to try get a photo a bit sneaky like as they make sas vehicles there etc so couldn't get a better pic to denote size but I reckon 3 transit vans would fit on the powered "trailer".

Dare I say it Rich weve all been there and done something silly. I put a new top end on a saw a few weeks ago in a bit of rush then just as I was about to pull it over I had one of those moments.... I couldn't remember doing the rings or whether I checked to make sure they where the right way up! , pondering I thought well I doubt if the piston would've went in the cylinder but I still ended up restripping the topend just to double check only to find them both fitted correctly. Luckily that was just a time thing not damage.

S/H cylinder here Stihl MS211 Cylinder and top crank case Seeing as the stihl type number isn't the same as the 210-250 range I cant verify what will definetly fit so may be safer to do a direct swap like for like. With these new small saws it can take a while before aftermarket parts hit the market. Certainly the 170 and 210 cylinders are different so not interchangeable

£20 to fit aint bad as its a clamshell motor, does he know that? The 250 is 42mm and later ones are 42.5 however you will struggle with compression as the crank is 4mm longer in the 250. 210 and 230 topend are the same and should fit the 211. If I where you tho I would do a srip down and see if you can save the cylinder as it would be a better bet.

Not anyone with a gun can go out and shoot a badger, legally anyway. I shot 130 foxes last year and don't see any harm in that, if someone/something is taking your livelihood away you do something about it.

Cost money? and culling doesn't? They tried vaccination here in devon 3-4 years ago and it didn't work. Cost the government a damn site more forking out 70% value of each cow/bullock that gets slaughtered that proves a positive tb test wouldn't you say?

I tell a lie theres 115A stamped on top the piston and what looks like 2811 stamped up inside the skirt.. hmmm Piston measures 39.89mm (40mm bore cylinder)

Stripped down the low compression ms210. I had taken a peek through the exhaust port and couldn't see any scoring etc but strip down confimed a nice bore and piston with no scoring or fouling... Bit of a headscratcher, def not compression tester at fault as checked it on another known saw plus the 210 was to easy to pull over. However the bottom cover/sump plate did have an egg cup of fuel in it so the bore would be lube free/dry so to speak plus the rings seem to be lacking a good "springyness" but functioning right and not sticking. Got a new set of rings and seals on there way so will stick it back together once they arrive, enough to do a compression check before the saw gets built up properly just to see if that cures it. Anyone think of any other possibilitys? The sump did have white sealer which suggest someones been inside it before as its normally the red dirko. Cant tell if the piston is oe or not (no markings on it) but the cylinder certainly is the original.

The ones ive seen on utube seem pretty pointless but not seen a Clarke one or it in action. I guess in certain circumstances they could have there uses. I guess it depend exactly what its "safe load" is and the job you asking of it? The lewis winch seems the most popular in the U.S.A...........

Just recased a stihl ms170 using a new el-cheapo chinky chong case. To my amazement everything went well and fitted. Went to pull it over and notchy and graunchy.... Turns out the case holes are about 1.5mm out for the starter cover and the pully that engages over the flywheel was off centre and catching.. Scratched my head a while pondering how to sort this out, then the solution hit. Pull the stihl badge off the centre of the starter cover (hole in centre that goes down thru the pully and cover) and drop a 2mm drill bit down there and line it up with the centre of the crank. Chemical metal up the pre drilled holes and redrilled new ones in the correct place... Saws running and oiling so job done! On to another 210 which I cleaned up last night and had soft fuel line issue so replaced it there and then as had one on the bench and carb clean but as it was nearly midnight put it away until the ms170 was sorted. Went to see if it would start today and distint lack of compression so put the tester on 90psi.. Another clamshell rebuild, that's the second this week.

In the local dealers looking at new husqys Buy the 365 x torq mate and save you money over the 372, grind out the transfer covers and save yourself £100 Least you wherent looking at another 560xp!!

Deck height is the same on the 272, 372 and stihl piston altho with the stihl you will have to rotate it 180 degrees so the arrow faces the inlet port so the ring land is in a better place and wont snag a ring.. I run mine on a 20" bar, was thinking about getting a 28 but for the amount I would use it I thought better of it and kept money in my wallet. Not often I would use it and would mainly only be on beach and oak so will just break out the 36" bar on the 076 + it gives me a reason to keep the old girl and blow the cobwebs out of her lol.

Yeah that seems high, try to achieve a 20-22. 20 seems the best measurement from what ive heard. Mine ended up at a nats below 22 from what I remember so was happy and didn't go further. Mines still not been in anything over 12-15" wood properly as yet tho, hoping the end of this week I can get it into some decent size stuff as feeling a bit healthier.

How do you get on with supply of Makita spares Rich? Never needed to get any but is supply and price ok or does it take a while and/r on the expensive side?

To me its just a hobby fixing and repairing for people I know, mates of mates etc. I don't advertise or anything but its not hard to see why lawnmower/chainsaw shops get stacked out this time of year. Everyone wants it done yesterday and would imagine half these people think your going to fix it there and then whilst they wait and think theres is a priority job and will be a 5 minute fix and the shop keeps every known spare for a chainsaw on the shelf. Yet for a good 6 mths of the year they sit them on a shelf or in a shed not touching them. Proper Planning Prevents P*ss Poor Performance and all that and like you say preventive medicine seems to have gone out the window. If these people spent a few minutes cleaning a saw after using it would make a world of difference as I would think half the saws I do are just gunked up carbs.

The latest, Stihl 024 wander what the problems could of been... Don't understand why people let them get this bad... State of carb Kill/earth wire..
