  1. That's a tidy chunk!
  2. A better wood? It's a forest mate.
  3. I can see it now and it turns out that it isn't the first time I have seen the fungus afterall. No idea what it is though.
  4. Never seen it before, and still haven't
  5. In proper winter weather I would expect to burn that much. I don't have any other heating in my big draughty house though. I have been carting logs all day at work, just off out to spend my evening splitting some for myself. I have probably just about got enough done for next winter. I am going to make sure I have a silly amount done, nice not to have to worry about finding dry logs. Well done, keep it up mate.
  6. Glad it wasn't with the saw [/img]
  7. Just a general overall reduction of a third of the growth, make sure it isn't the third nearest the ground. Not easy to tell from an upside down pic that isn't all that anyway (no offense) Top reduction is to compensate for the obvious root damage and to give the tree the best chance. I have one lying on the floor that is flourishing.
  8. Drag it upright, stake it securely and reduce the top by upto a third is my advice.
  9. You are going to have to tie it to the ground or it will fall off.
  10. I have some potassium nitrate in my shed. Is that where it came from?
  11. Call yourself Goaty and ask questions about peeing on yourself? Is this a fetish with you or summat?
  12. Is the boron spray any good?
  13. Turn it to "suck" given our present weather!
  14. Burns well once dry, takes over a year to dry.
  15. Best wishes
  16. Excellent book but i expect it would get canker. I plaited some apple shoots once just for the fun of it. They did indeed graft themselves into one over the years but eventually got canker. Probably related to the included bark that is inevitable.

    Best axes.

Puzzles me Jon. How come with all the woodcutters on here you haven't shifted that bugger yet.
  18. My pond hasn't got any in it this year. I think the ducks and water hens are eating it or the frogs. usually has plenty and there are frogs about so don't know why.
  19. 2 lit tonight. One went out, of course it was the one that heats the water
  20. That's scary! Line from the film Tremors....."you broke into the wrong goddamn rec room" is what it would get here. i bet that has really spooked you and your missus. As suggested, get onto pigeonwatch for someone to help you sort it.

    Tape measure

I had been thinking about this today. Half the time I can't find the damned things. I keep buying the 99p 3 metre jobbies but they're not really long enough a lot of the time. I even went out and bought a quite pricey 8m tape measure and bent it within days. My conclusion was to buy the cheapest tape you can find that matches an acceptable quality. if it breaks/wears out just buy another. Expensive tapes are not worth the money imo. Some pretty good deals on ebay if you search 8m tape measure.
  22. Get them on ebay and buy some coal with the profit.
  23. They don't really affect maneuvering but the tyres will get scrubbed if you do it a lot. My tractor will lift most things I ask it to without relying on the wheels. I try to keep them off the ground but nice to have them there if the tractor does decide to lift at the front. Simple things like reversing up any hills, setting off slowly and keeping the weight as close to the tractor as possible get me through most situations. Even something as simple as going into the wide part of the pallet instead of the narrow end makes a difference. (keeps the weight closer to the tractor) Most of these setups seem to be 1500kg rated, I have never got to that weight.
  24. I expect it would lift it. You will need one of those fork lifts with wheels at the bottom of the frame or you are back to square one. I don't know anything about the tractor you have but it may become unstable moving about with such weights. Probably fine on flat concrete, not so on a hill.
  25. Were you told this today? This morning by any chance?
