  1. Bit late on the reply I know. I use a similar technique but instead of a screwdriver, I use one jaw of a crocodile pliers. That way there's no worry about slipping and you can ensure the spring doesn't buckle or pop back out. After fitting the cover plate, I then reset the brake by gripping one of the arms with a normal pliers and a quick twist resets the brake to off.
  2. If you're getting caught out on a regular basis, then as others have said, you need to learn about compression and tension. If you already know and are still getting caught out on a regular basis, you need to go back to the drawing board. If it's small stuff that catches you. A Silky will save lots of time getting you out of the pickle jar. If it's bigger stuff, then it's down to either packing spare bar & chain or another saw or other mechanical advantage or brawn & an axe. Or all of the above. Failing any of the aforementioned, you could always just give up on saws and take up knitting.
  3. Depends what I'm doing. Sometime ear plugs are the way to go. But if I know I'll be taking putting them on and taking them repeatedly through the day, I'll go with banded defenders.
  4. That looks like an empty paddling pool for mice.
  5. Colour - met a guy, who in college had been asked why he'd chosen brown and purple carpet tiles. His reply, "What do you mean? They're all dark blue." It was then he learned of his colour blindness.
  6. Or a Herald perhaps.
  7. Muggy - all yesterday and today too. I suspect tomorrow will be the same. But it's not at all cold.
  8. I like bread and butter pud. Shout out when it's just about to come out of the oven.
  9. Where's your sense of adventure?
  10. Nice one and not seen it before.
  11. Got a hedge to do for a friend, couple of miles outside Monmouth. And would like to finish the top with heatherings. There'll be a few gaps that will need new growth and will probably put in hawthorn. Not blackthorn though, I may end up working the same hedge in future and I hate the stuff. I can source the young growth, though if people have favoured suppliers in the area...
  12. As consumer law goes, (as I understand it) once you settle for a replacement, rather than a full refund, you forfeit the right to get your money back at a later time. By having it repaired, you may already have forfeited the right to a refund of your money. But it's worth asking for a full refund. If you then wish to buy another saw, the warranty period will start from the new purchase date. If you settle for a replacement, even though that replacement is a different saw, in all probability, the warranty period will be back dated to start from the original purchase.
  13. Clear, fine, main high cloud base during days with blue skies in evening and night. Temps. around 6°-10°C during day, so pretty mild with no wind. And a slight seasonal chill with wind. Been the same for three days now.
  14. I know it's not quite off topic; but is it really landscaping. So here it is. Can anyone supply me suitable whips for hetherings near Monmouth or know of a supply? I really don't want to be transporting them nearly 20mls. from a known source.
  15. Fig and damp but mild. Been the same for three days now.
  16. Not the light or not by much but stiff and long lasting. Plus, you can renew the nose if needed.
  17. Well it's still just a dusting but melting fast. Only have to be aware of black ice in nights now.

    Guying a big log

    Nice one!
  19. That the start of a very big bread & butter pudding.
  20. Snowed from yesterday around 16:00. But in truth it's only a dusting, maybe 40mm max. What was less fun, was the black ice on an untreated dual carriageway last night. Bit twitchy here and there.
  21. You just know he eats boiled sweets with the wrappers on, because he hasn't figured out the pull technique. But he'd see it as the macho thing to do and brag about it down the pub.
  22. Dr. Doolittle had a double headed lama similar to that.
  23. Banter aside - consensus of opinion is to file or grind to re-profile the cant hook, so it grabs when you need it to.
  24. Cloudy but bright with lower fog, that rolls in during evening and stays overnight. Been the same for four days now. Temps hovering around freezing during the nights and between +6°C to -4°C during the day. So pretty warm for this time of year.
  25. That made me chuckle. I can little imagine anyone less likely to be stoned as my friend the charity director. Unless discounting mead, you can get high on honey.
