  1. Basically using the lowering rope then?
  2. It's much of a muchness really, their products are top quality and that's all I really care about...
  3. Isn't Hubert Kowalewski polish? Either way, his stuff doesn't break...
  4. Just going by the number of members on here who have broken them I'd say 2 in 1000 is a series understatement. I'm not sure what petzl are playing at, but I don't like it...
  5. Look nice, sleeping in trees is always pretty cool. Do you not put some sort of padding between the ratchet straps and stem though? I remember hearing reports of pretty severe damage from un-padded slack lines.
  6. This!
  7. Do a search for srt access, you can't use them in place of a prussik obviously but they certainly have a place. Will be worth while investing in a chest ascender if you go down the srt access route though.
  8. all the safety gear indeed...
  9. Solid helmets, I have an odd shaped head and they're too wobbly for me but otherwise I'd rate them better than any petzl/kask/Stein lid.
  10. I'm on my third alveo now, very light and comfortable but definitely not sturdy. I just use mine as a climbing helmet, no chainsaw bits because it'd be useless if something went wrong with anything larger than silky sized wood. Think it might be aimed more at the industry market...
  11. Are those two cracks you can see in the picture? In places other than those indicated in petzl's investigation? If so I wonder what their investigation consisted of...
  12. As said velocity is the best, tachyon second. I'd recommend trying a sequoia before you buy, I used one for a week and the pain was unbearable. Wouldn't touch one ever again.
  13. I'd been climbing for a grand total of 4 months when I got a spiderjack, so basically learnt to climb on one. If it's what you fancy just get one, nothing will prepare you for using levers in a tree. It does take a bit of getting used to but ultimately I think it's pretty intuitive.
  14. Go on youtube and watch spiderjackery III, should explain most of it. If you ever do trees together with another climber be wary of them slapping the black lever. If you ever do trees together with another climber you can really get them by poking the black lever with a stick! And use some sort of pulley up top.
  15. I guess it sped things up, I didn't waste any time blowing on my burning thumb and finger anyway. Maybe I just can't climb right. I moved to a spiderjack a few years ago though. Rig spacer sounds like a neat little solution.
  16. Yeah I did that for a while when I had a knot, it worked a treat. Go for it.
  17. I had someone call me the other week trying to persuade me I was due a 'considerable amount' in compensation for a crash I had a few years ago. Oddly I've never had, or been involved in a car accident. Those companies are total wasters...
  18. That sounds good man, you're just over 3 months post op now right? I guess work is kinda out the question at that stage, but a bit of climbing will do wonders for the head no doubt. Keep posted on how it goes! I'm dreading trying to keep myself occupied during recovery, books?
  19. Still not got a date for my op but will happen before October I'm told. Was using a mates 150 the other week, it was pants, of course, so I mentioned drilling the exhaust to him and he did it without question. I didn't expect such a difference, it's a totally different saw! Actually useful! Since I can't actually use a handsaw now I may have to bite the bullet and buy a new one, but it seems a kinda worthwhile investment now...
  20. Yeah... try and avoid pole snips where possible, I did a fair bit of cone picking over the past few years and it just takes time, especially when you aren't used to it. If you tie a prussik loop onto your hooky pole you can pull branches into you and then clip it off to the stem/branches/etc. leaving your hands free to grab cones, useful.
  21. Is that not a little excessive/dangerous?
  22. They're a bit of a pain due to their form, a stick with a hook on the end is helpful. Is this an odd request from customer, or is there a plan for the cones?
  23. I personally never got along well with it, tried it out years ago but being so used to footloop/pantin/croll it was just more hassle, and in that setup less safe. If used with a rw I can imagine it being nice, though I can't really say...
  24. Are old bits of wood valuable currency over there?
  25. That or you aren't working very hard, I think I understand why you're self employed
