  1. Cool, the air filter is clean but perhaps blocked up with very fibre dust, I'll give that a try. How tricky is it to get to the carbs internal filter? Worth asking before I stay taking it to bits eh...
  2. Hey folks, got a niggle with my 200 and wondered if anyone has had the same, and if so what might be up with it... Particularly when warm, starting as normal it's not got the power anymore. Cutting it'll usually bog right down and really struggles to cut. Sink it into bigger wood and it's useless. Start it on half choke though, and it's an absolute weapon. It's never run that well in the 7 years I've had it, makes any modern top handle look like a joke. I'm not sure if it's about to blow up then though. Understandably this is frustrating. Checked basic stuff, air filter, fuel, changed it to winter mode. But I don't really know... My local stihl dealer is utterly useless and charges a fortune for the pleasure, so I'm reluctant to just hand it over and ask them to fix it... Cheers ya'll
  3. I just use a micro traxion, works sweet.
  4. Anyone recommending Leylandii should be banned from Arb
  5. Globe isn't just a bit more static than velocity, it's pretty much totally static. Like climbing a steel cable, but a cable you can tie knots in. Platinum, from memory, is a bit more static than the likes of velocity but still very much a bouncy rope. A good one to check out is arbocup, it's similarly static to globe, but doesn't cost a bomb. I know guys who have had bad knee problems using super static ropes for access all the time so could be worth looking at before shelling out heaps of cash. Think you'd have to get it off treekit in the UK.
  6. Seems I'm a bit of an odd one out but I'm not a fan of cougar. Mines flattened out so much I definitely wouldn't recommend it, based on my experiences with it. Being so static is nice though. Personal favourite is Tachyon, as said it's bouncier than Cougar but no bouncier than any other rope. Plus once you've climbed on it 6 months and it's full of sludge it won't bounce that much anyway...
  7. What like Israel/Palestine? That worked a treat eh? I have never met anybody who hates British people, let alone wants to kill us. Maybe there is the odd foreign looking bloke who thinks the odd British bloke is a bit of a ****. But then maybe both of them are. This is not major a problem... and if it WERE a major problem, it would be a problem of our own creation and to be honest, fair play. You aren't forgetting that we've dropped allot of bombs on allot of people for very questionable/fictional reasons?
  8. I think it's pretty clear that dropping bombs on angry young men and women, who saw their homes, families and lives obliterated by Western bombs and are now determined to reap some sort of revenge, is only going to aggravate matters more. Based on what I saw of the debate (which was quite allot of it) I think very few of the MPs grasp that they are making a decision which will kill thousands of innocent people. A decision I don't think anybody has the right to make. And an answer to a problem that was created by dropping bombs on people. Intervention, by all means, but air strikes aren't the solution...
  9. Beautiful tree round there. Definitely take a look in the Hermitage if you get a chance, it's 5 mins from Dunkeld max. I was there yesterday and the river was heaving, really cool. Also just up the river, the falls under Rumbling Bridge was really impressive too.
  10. Hey, sorry to hear you're packing it in but hopefully you go on to do better things. I'm interested in the 020 and 66, interested to see pics/prices.
  11. Straight over my head treequip... I'm amazed people rave about a rope which seems to be pot luck if it's good, awful, or in some cases down right dangerous i hear... Sorry the more I use this the worse it gets and the more annoyed I become. Going back to tachyon.
  12. Yeah, flat is maybe a better description... Same sort of thing though for sure. I thought it was maybe a breaking in thing too but after a good months use now it's just... nasty. I've heard Donaghys had some major quality control issues so wasn't sure if it was just a duff batch or a crap rope...
  13. Hey folks, I've had a bit of cougar orange for a couple months now. It sat in the cupboard for a while, until i decided my old rope really really needed replaced. Now that I'm using it regularly, it's basically going square. Has anybody else had this issue? I've used the rope wrench on it a bit, but very little. So pretty much just using a knot. I've never had a rope lose it's shape this badly, even in a spiderjack. It's not a safety issue i wouldn't say, but it's pretty horrible to use... I'd just be interested to hear if it's common...
  14. Ive got a ropeguide I don't use, I'm not in the UK at the moment though and probably won't be until mid-late September... I only used it for a month or two then got another pulley saver. I don't rate the ropeguide too highly but whatever, some people seem to love em... Anyway you're welcome to it, just bring knee pads...
  15. Sod needles man, that sounds horrific. I'd be putting my foot down and telling whoever it is that's speccing that into jobs to do it themselves with the kit ptotally rovided. I certainly wouldn't be picking them up by hand, gloves or not. Sounds like you've spoken to a wall about the issue for a while now. If your concerns, and they are totally legitimate, are falling on deaf ears then make them understand...
  16. I'm inclined to agree with the guys saying it's fairly late to start; and it probably would be if you were coming from an office job or such. However by the sounds of it you're a pretty fit guy, so why not? So long as you've the aptitude for it you'll be good. I think that's what allot of mediocre climbers lack. One of the best guys I know at dismantles started when he was 30... Just be aware it is a pretty saturated market here in the UK, going abroad sounds like a good plan.
  17. Matelot, while I don't think it's our responsibility to improve everyone's quality of life, I do think it's our responsibility to ensure that the way we live our lives doesn't negatively impact others. There are certainly well functioning former British colonies, there's no doubt about it. However there're plenty of others which are anything but stable, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Sudan to name a few... Hardly places you'd take the kids on holiday. Not to mention the persecution, abuse and enslavement of native populations going back centuries... Do you really think the chappy working in an iphone factory living in a city so polluted breathing is a struggle, or the woman sewing sparkly Primark dresses for pennies a day really care about undercutting our manufacturers? I'm pretty certain they're just taking what their given, rather than starve... That is obviously the logical step though, if places like China/India were paying British wages then retail prices would be higher and we'd more likely manufacture these goods in the UK/EU. However they don't, and we don't want to pay double the money for a pair of jeans just because whoever made them had to suffer less. I'm straying from the point I was making now, and I'm not trying to get all hippy up in here; but I do firmly believe that all this immigration talk is incredibly insular and ignoring some pretty stark realities... My two pence... Over and out.
  18. Are you concerned that ISIS are going to immigrate to the UK and start beheading here? Here in Scotland we have a pretty straight forward approach to these things, a toe punt to the balls put a swift stop to that sort of behaviour. I think if Farage had his way we'd be lynching them as soon as they stepped off the plane... The jeans, washing machine, new car... they're all made outside of the UK because of cheap labour costs. No secret there. But do you really think their labour costs are so low because their healthcare, pensions, benefits and rent are so cheap? Of course not, they probably don't have any. All I'm saying is the comfortable lifestyle we take for granted comes at the cost of other peoples well being. We're all guilty of it, but what right do we have to deny them entry to a country they undoubtedly support? They practically are the UK's lower/working class... Perhaps if more people were willing to pay a reasonable price for all of these imported goods there would actually be money in these countries. Then foreign doctors/nurses/engineers might be able to pay for the education they've received without moving half way around the world to a wet, cold island with an ever increasing air of hostility towards them... I mean, does that actually sound like an enjoyable experience? Just my 2 pence...
  19. Hey Sean, I've been keeping an eye on these threads since I first read about your accident, and I have to say man, bloody well done. For keeping your chin up, for laughing when you can and for seeing the light in a situation I'm sure very few of us can comprehend. Your grace going through this astounds and definitely humbles me. I'm sure there will be dark times but hold onto that attitude that's coming across at the moment and you will amaze us all even more, I'm certain. Great to read you're getting yourself in some mischief too! As others have said, I've never met you, I don't know you, but I wish I did. You seem like a damn good bloke. Keep it up bud.
  20. Haven't read through a great deal of this thread, but I'm really, really amazed at the amount of Tory/UKIP support... For me SNP are the only ones that make much sense. I think this piece I read sums it up quite nicely; "There in lies the paradox. The Scots still want to try to live with in the UK for now. Therefore the SNP are fighting this British GE on policies of fairness that try to stop the sins of the rich (the bankers that caused the financial crash of 2007) falling on the poorest members of society via austerity measures. They also do it expecting to participate in the government of the country. For the unionists to turn around and cry foul at the prospect is very poor judgement in my opinion, one which hasten the end of the UK. Meantime whilsts they are digging holes for the beloved union, the SNP are trying to make things better for people al around the country. From abolishing the HoL , to electoral reform and an ending of trident, the SNP are ironically pushing for a reformed , federal UK that might survive. Real-politiks as they used to say." One of the major things being discussed in this election which really gets on my nerves is the matter of immigration... As a nation with a particularly ruthless, bloody colonial history, how can we turn around and tell these people, 'you can't come in'? When it's our culture and consumerism that makes their lives utter misery, what right do we have to refuse them entry to the nation they've catered to? Nigel Farage' incessant condemning of immigrants, and David Camerons commitments to an EU referendum and tighter immigration controls are quite frankly shameful in my opinion...
  21. Mallion/grillon in question. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/climbers-talk/49862-equipment-failure.html
  22. Ha ha, I guess we'll be waiting for the mk4 then. I think the zigzag is pretty good evidence that for all their brilliant stuff, Petzl don't have a clue about trees... They do make nice paper weights though.
  23. Ha ha! Those unlicensed haberdashers really grind my gears... Sounds allot like my local stihl dealer, I don't go there anymore...
  24. Throwing hook is a good one for the kit bag. Rarely use it, but for avenues of trees, forests, big spreading red oaks and the like it's invaluable. I saw your video a wee while back Jesse, you definitely took to hooks eh? I think a major advantage of the epple hook is the bungee to stop it getting caught. It's a little thing but it's gotta be a big bonus...
  25. Great stuff dude! Glad to hear it's healing well for you! With regards to Rich's question I started taking glucosamine sulphate, calcium and magnesium supplements a couple of weeks before my op, as well as a multi vitamin and obviously a good diet. Seems to have done well for me, and will certainly keep them up for the foreseeable future. Just don't take a calcium supplement with iron rich foods/supplements as they inhibit calcium absorption. I'm nearly 5 months post op now, will get the word on if I can start climbing again next month but all seems good, if a little stiff in the mornings. It'll come though! All the best with your continued recovery fella!
