  1. Ungrateful cow, she just tipped it away! On the subject of tea, freshly boiled water (discard if its been boiled already) poured over pyramid bags, milk in straight away and leave to stew - DON'T STIR - makes it stronger somehow? Also no sugar. Nothing more refreshing even on a boiling hot day, customers think we're mad when we ask for tea over a cold drink...
  2. Acquired an old husqvarna 480CD which my dad bought in the 80's, he tells me he never maintained the saw just used it very occasionally??? Anyway got ideas of using it for milling (don't laugh), I put some fuel in it and it fired up after a few pulls, sounds meaty. It leaked fuel and would stall if turned sideways - so I've stripped it down today, the grommet where the fuel line enters the tank was basically sludge which would explain the fuel leak but would this also account for the stalling when turned on its side? Went to Halfords and bought some grommets which I intend to fit tomorrow, is there anything else I should look out for while I'm at it? Chain brake is broken but other than that there is nothing else obvious and it looks pretty clean (for its age), it would be nice to get some use out of it...
  3. I planted a plane (platinus hispanica) when my lad was born. Unfortunately things got nasty and she buggered off with him, not seen him for four years, he'll be 5 on Halloween. The tree is doing great...
  4. So have you gone for the rfs course (abc awards)...?
  5. Had the exact same reply so I've been looking at hcc! What's the deal with that hcc cert in arboriculture? It only about 190 quid??? If this is going to get me the same level of learning as the rfs course I might just go for it, as I'm self employed and not looking to impress employers with qualifications, just looking to further my own knowledge...
  6. Apparently they cannot see the colour red http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2406094/Want-ward-wasps-Wear-red-trousers--tie-paper-bag-nearest-tree-And-DONT-wear-aftershave.html...
  7. I've seen the above mentioned "handy" machine on eBay for £499, and also a vary similar machine under the guises of scheppach ana yak! So bikewoo are you saying you would steer clear of the Clarke one because of poor customer service with your previous one...?
  8. Hi bikewoo! I've not used am electric splitter myself so I am unable to comment on their power, but I was thinking myself about getting one just for myself and family's log supply. Had my eye on this one from machine mart http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/clarke-vertical-log-buster-6 they send out a vat free offer every month so if I used that it would be mega cheap...but is it nasty? Would also be interested in people's views on the leccy ones...
  9. Chillies can get blight, but I'm not sure if its the same "blight" that affects toms as the term "blight" has been coined to describe various causes of rotting in plants, but I believe it's a bacteria and it can spread. It's linked with wet weather usually I think, a couple of years ago I lost all of my outdoor tomatoes to blight! It's very, very sad as all of the fruits were set and ripening nicely...then blighted by the blight! But of course yours blight not be...
  10. Don't say it could be the dreaded blight😱 aaarrrgggghh! Just to be on the safe side I would remove any affected leaves/fruits/stems and burn, then shift your chillies somewhere else (belt and braces). Keep an eye on the rest of the toms! Are they in a greenhouse...?
  11. Have you had a reply yet? I'm still waiting. Is it the case that they won't answer emails till term starts again...
  12. I think I have the same boots as him...
  13. Top tip, thanks! It's a bit late for this current crop as its now chicken feed! They love the cabbage AND the caterpillars...hope they're not poisenous😳...
  14. This was in our local paper last week, http://www.hinckleytimes.net/news-in-hinckley/local-news/burbage-news/2013/08/23/nine-month-hell-for-have-a-go-hero-duo-from-burbage-105367-33763571/ Shocking, but at least justice was served in the end...
  15. Looks good, is it manual? I've just bought a 12v Lucas off ebay👍...
  16. I was ready to start lauding test cricket and how much more exciting than one day 20/20 it is and then...bad light! With the flood lights on??? But your right, all credit to Michael Clarke, and well do e England...
  17. I'm also looking to do this course online and the comment above about no email with hcc has made my mind up about going with myerscough! Can't rely on snail mail! Maybe those that are taking the course can use this thread as a bit of mutual support etc...?
  18. Hi chaps! Just pulling up ALL of my brassicas as they've been decimated by caterpillars (I know Annette would've helped but she wasn't available at the time😜). Any suggestions on what to plant at this time of year? I have plenty of salad leaf, carrots, beetroot etc was thinking more of something for the winter? ...
  19. On an old beech stump in my yard! Elder growing in amongst it all....
  20. Ah man I'm so sorry! It's no wonder these parasites have the front to do such a thing in broad daylight without fear, because there is no deterrent. And even if they do get a prison sentence, prison is no deterrent it's a chuffing holiday camp!!! Really gets my back up...
  21. Excellent! I would go in a heartbeat...
  22. Spot on, cheers for that I'll get some service parts ordered. Think it could do with an oil change as well...
  23. I've got the 110 nilfisk, bought from machine mart about a year ago, it cost me about £100, which I think was well worth it so 65 quid is a steal. It's great for cleaning patios, walls, cars etc but its wont touch weeds/moss/in ground dirt on an old block paving drive. For that we hire a big diesel washer with a rotojet, costs us about 200 a week for both. Well worth pricing it into a job...
