  3. I pay £30 for climbing kit and £30 for rigging
  4. If you about to be a dad Id be tempted to leave it for a year at least or I think it will far too much!
  5. Im just passed the halfway mark doing level 4 with Andy at Westonbirt....Hes a very good teacher...loads knowledge and good sense of humor...but yes its a lot of work....76 assignements in total but sure it will all be worth it!
  6. Its my understanding you shouldnt spike any tree/ tree part that you planning on retaining. Only exception I know of is when 'veteranising' trees.
  7. Looks like some type of milk cap....couldnt pin point which one though. If you cut the gills on a milk cap it will produce a white residue
  8. Definitely hazel
  9. Looks like Kretschmaria duesta
  10. Yeah your right topping not pollarding! but if managed properly on a cycle coudnt see it actually being much of an issue. Guess it just depends what the OP is trying to achieve, crown reduction might not meet the aims and fell might be too drastic.
  11. Although there a little past the BS3998 treework recommendations for initiating pollards in terms of girth, im pretty sure they would all come back, seen elm and maple pollarded before.
  12. Get some more tickets - if you have been doing it for all you life you havent got the tickets you should have. No ones going to take you very seriously until have got atleast cs31, 38 & 39. Sounds like you have the experience but just need to consolidate your CV. Why not join the Arb Association? you will learn a lot, keep up to date with changes in the industry and it will look great on your CV as shows you are taking a proffessional interest in your career.
  13. I have a business account with Lloyds, the only benefit I really know of is that if you want a bank loan they will lend upto 10% of your gross business income...which allowed me to get a loan for a truck...other than that it costs me £20 a month on average and tbh it would be too much hassle to change to personal account but if I were to start again Id probably do that until they got on my back.
  14. Because not all topped trees are going to come back with avengance, some will succumb to stress and slowly start to decline as you have removed all of its photosynthetic capacity, eposed huge wounds for pathogen invasion and it now doesn't have much means to defend itself.
  15. Well, dont know about that but your mates right...you do need permission
  16. Its not a TPO, conservation area is a different type of protection and isnt the same as a TPO, although you still have to go throught the same planning permissions in theory.
  17. I think hedges are protected if the dbh is over 7.5cm at 1.5m abover ground level as is anything else fitting this specification in a conservation area.
  18. Is there actually a case here? Just wondering as no one fortunately got hurt and very minimal damage. Can you be sued for a near miss?
  19. Get out there and try and do as many mock inspections as you can... get to grips measuring cavities, tree height, radial spread, tree lean, fungi ident, pest and diseases.. you only have 20 mintues to do your examinated inspections.. get some decent binos, compass, some form of cavity probe...definitely read loads about decay, decay fungi and body language of trees, also read up on duty of care, Occcupiers liabaility act...and learn the difference between Common and statute law. Good luck!
  20. I have travelled to France with easyjet with 2 petrol Chainsaws, my advice is to speak to your airline...get them to confirm in writing exactly how you need the saws presented...i.e bar off, completely drained off fuel etc...print that correspondance out and take with you to the airport just in case there's a problem once you get to airport.....easy peasy! Good luck
  21. I second that:thumbup1:
  22. It looks to have some resemblance to "The deceiver" Laccaria laccatta
  23. I live in Stroud and would recommend ermin plant over anyone else
  24. Lovely job!
  25. Actually just found this website that is real informative about Uk mistletoe management for anyone interested Management needs | The Mistletoe Pages
