  1. Am guessing the metal carbs would be fine - any experience/wisdom re: US cleaning the briggs plastic tank top carbs in US cleaner? cheers
  2. meant to ask you spud - you said you'd upgraded your us cleaner in an earlier post - what model did you go for? still happy with it? Cheers
  3. Brilliant photos - never done that job - would have no hesitation having a go after this post - cheers barrie - this site is superb - given me so much confidence to get stuck in. Will do a bit of research on heli-coiling - cheers
  4. cheers Spud - metering diaphragm was knackd - no flex in it, like a piece of cardboard- replaced it and runs like a new saw. So, it was holding pressure when flexed one way but too stiff to flex back after opening the needle and so constant flloding. Before I had the pressure tester I used to change all dias and gaskets as a matter of course - but that's expensive if they're fine - this is a helpful reminder to double check their condition. Am wondering is there any way to recondition a metering diaphragm that's gone 'card-boardy'? Anybody - it's a Makita DCS34 - when I google it's telling me this is a commercial grade saw? is that right? Certainly cuts with oomph. Cheers
  5. Spud: DONATELife is tough but it's tougher when you're stupid If you liked the advice or it saved you money, how about making a donation to Arbtalk - scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the donate button Where is the donate button - can't find it - I reckon I'm in debit at the mo!
  6. Thanks Spud - thats helpful - will double check gaskets and metering arm - yes fuel seemed to be pouring out (misting from cylinder) even with both fully closed - otherwise I set them for starters at 1 turn each. Was just wondering this isn't one of those carbs like the ms200t one that has that accellerator pump that can malfunction?? It's a C1Q DM9A 2BA. Ta
  7. cheers lakey - ordered the tool today- i know i've got some mickey mouse bits and stones - if you can recommend any others bear it in mind all the best
  8. cheers spud pressure tested the carb - that's what's throwing me - held pressure no probs - as sson as it was on the saw and i pulled it over petrol everywhere - could you have all of the above Leaking needle valve or metering arm set too high - possible the diaphragm spacer isn't between the diaphragm and the carb body! and pressure test still be fine?
  9. Flooding Carb (Zama C1Q DM9A 2BA) on this Makita /Dolmar DC34 Got the saw with a crank case literally full of fuel - dripping out of exhaust when turned over - no firing - too wet but lovely spark. Removed carb - pressure test failed - ultrasonicd - did not replace any diaphragms / gaskets /needles. Reassembled - held 8psi - no probs - refitted - exactly the same issue. Plug removed - turn over - fuel mist pouring out of spark plug hole and literally running back into the air filter tube - clearly just pouring into cylinder - apparently not stopping. Have a I missed a test - reseating?? - never really done that - do i need a new carb kit - it as if the petrol goes straight through the carb - like an open channel. Welch plugs? Cheers folks
  10. a pertinent warning! can feel myself going greyer and losing my eyesight to computers with this new found addiction to wanting to know everything about porting (before having done any of it - which I suppose is the right way round at least??)
  11. Impressed with your first effort lakey. Am wondering what exactly that hanging drill is above your bench with flexi drive - is that what you used? how did you get on? be very interested in the precise detail of your porting tools/attachments. Think I'm gonna start with a strimmer! Don't want to risk a saw. cheers
  12. New clutch springs on an 011 and carb clean and fitting of correct fuel pump diaphragm on a 009 - no wonder it didn't run - 'repaired' by somebody else who seemed to have squeezed in a diaphragm from a completely different carb refitting the carb on the 009 was a painful process - old base gasket kept wandering and the throttle wire connect up made me fantasize about the chunky size of lawnmowers - there's probably a right order to re-install this carb, gaskets, lines and linkages.
  13. Cheers Rich and co. - job done (minus 1 switch melted with soldering iron) - chuffed
  14. 3 pins - I found another switch that fits perfectly but it's a 3 pinner at the back - with a light- can i use it and just forget about the light spade? cheers
  15. On the bench heading for the wall - present from my neighbour -delighted with it
  16. Thanks Spud - and yes - this is one of the things in my life that will keep me wide awake - I can't get enough. Cheers.
  17. Thanks Rich and Tree - really helpful and appreciated - I'll give it a whirl all the best
  18. Echo with a hole where the kill switch should be. Not too savvy re: electrics (like most things until I've done it a few times). Bought these 3 switches - some say 12v on side - problem? p has 2 terminals at back, t has 2 and g has 3 - not sure which to use and what's the general principle here? i.e what wire/s should be going where. or even whether these type of switches will work at all - what do you do? Any help appreciated folks
  19. yep - it looks very like the aldi one too - all made by JPL I think - anyway it works for me - it has to for £33!
  20. [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00112B0U0/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00]JPL 7000 Ultrasonic Cleaner with accessories: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics[/ame] the JPL I went for Rich - quite happy with it so far good luck
