  3. Long may your light sabre fit! cheers mate
  4. Thanks Barrie Can you recommend one? Mike
  5. Thanks Spud - appreciate the time you're giving here. Quick one - what is that red ended thing you use to plug the carb hole when pressure testing - looks like the end of a garden hose?? OPEN QUESTION - Do other people use something other than white spirit?
  6. Thanks Bill Where do you get this chip? cheers Mike
  7. Spud - I want to know how you go about cleaning carbs. Is the US cleaner your first port of call or do you use carb cleaner and compressed air first and then US for problem carbs? Or do you just put them in as your first approach? How long for? Do you remove all the gaskets and dias and put the 3 seperate pieces of the carb in? And finally - do you always use white spirit or is there another cleaner you use? What do other folk use? cheers
  8. Thanks Barrie Had another shufty and found the wire coming from behind the flywheel (i do need to wear my glasses)- removed flywheel, found points box, opened up, cleaned points and re-fitted. Pulled over - great spark - had carb off and cleaned - had it fired up - what a powerful strimmer - well pleased - just need to work out how to set the idle with the barrel carb and nuts on top. Thanks for your help Mike
  9. Hi folks Kawasaki KT17 no spark - but a get a minor belt if i hold plug and pull on recoil. First question - is this electronic or points under the flywheel - is there a simple way to tell? Second: Can the coil fail in this way so that you just get an unpleasant tingle and not a spark? Third:the coil is marked/coded MR370251 - haven't had even a sniff of luck trying to track one down on the interweb - any recommended suppliers?
  10. Thanks for explaining that - never came across that 'wasted spark' term. I see now that anything running off the flywheel is going to be 1 fire every revolution and probably 1 fire every other revolution if points are working off a camshaft not directly off the crankshaft? Cheers
  11. Thanks Gardenkit That opens up an interesting discipline - sensing what the rpms are- thanks - but I just don't understand how the 360 setting works with 4 strokes - i thought there was 1 fire for every 720 degrees rotation - each stroke being 180deg? Cheers
  12. OK spud/anybody it's late just got in first wrestle with my new tiny tach20k - sure this is a dumb question - but settings for 4 cycle = 360?720? 2 cycle 360? thanks
  13. I second that - would be excellent
  14. Thanks Spud - bit the bullet and one on the way
  15. Quote: WorcsWuss It could conceivably actually be 2400 rpm, depends how it calculates revs from sparks...... UPDATE Have just checked HMRC website: Chiny Tack 1200rpm + import duty + post office handling fee = 2400rpm
