  1. It's looking fantastic Dave, how many years now? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  2. Well, I fitted the hyway kit to my 357 today, didn't fit without a base gasket why does this keep happening?! So went to the mechanic next door to see if he had gasket paper, found a lathe 14k rpm running rich, reckon I can get another 500rpm from it no sweat Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. Yup Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  4. 75-80% depending on what you read I just add more holes to the baffle plate rather than remove, often they're structurally integral Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  5. Pretty much, there are other ways too Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  6. Take it to a dealer! Has the oil gallery split? The saw, I find, tends to heat up, a lot, so check the bolts on the crank case to make sure it's not opening up when hot Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  7. There are 101 ways to mod a muffler, each modder likes a different method, but generally it's creating more airflow from the saw, these can be in the form of pipes, holes, slits or a hole with a deflector. It depends on the saw to what looks best Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. The spade connector is usually the part that fouls up, give it a blast with degreaser about once a month, cleans it up nicely, and give the contacts a blast too Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. Could be a faulty decomp valve, a sharp edge on a port, poor honing and a bulge in the cylinder, bit of grit in the cylinder, could be any of a long list of things Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. Hyway cylinder arrived today, porting looks pretty good to start with! Who ever thought of doing this is a genius! The 56cc cylinder could outcut a 560, I wonder how good this will be Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. Good god! Jon and Rich both recommending the husky over stihl?! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    husky 480 cd

Try checking the tank breather valve Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  13. My blinkers go on when I hear the words 'Ed, can you take a look at this' Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. Ah but it's not a four-stroke though is it? It's a combination of ALL the bad bits from a four and two-stroke! The 4-mix are seriously shockingly bad! Maintenance involves the carb tuning, engine timing, valve clearance, checking the cam for wear, blah, blah, blah! I refuse to work on them! Fiddly damn things, there's a dead one at work where the valve dropped into the cylinder! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. The M O Bacter isn't as effective, and as for wildflower meadows, it's a fertiliser, granular at that, you'd do more harm than good Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. Spray it with ferrous sulphate, scarify, aerate using a petrol aerator (stuff using a hand tool), top-dress, seed, 6 months down the line spray half dose sulphate once a month, you'll have a lawn to envy! And always scarify in spring and autumn, it's better for good roots! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  17. I've found them under conifers before, in fact they may still be growing there Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  18. By the way, studies of pollen records showed there was a sharp decline around the early Neolithic era in elm, they believe that may also be due to DED Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  19. That's my preferred way too! If you get a wide bladed flat head and grind either side so it forms a T shape that fits inside the spring it makes it easier Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  20. Was working in a garden in Derbyshire last Tuesday, biggest damn wych elm I've ever seen! I would be interested in knowing where that elm in your pic is graham, is it local? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  21. Oh, I know that, I just wish the bad luck wouldn't happen to me! Tbh I didn't like the look of the circlip on the other side of the piston on the 254, and when I went to remove the gudgeon pin, the clip pushed straight out, so if that one hadn't pinged out, the other would have! Still, it's a learning curve, got my eye on a 362xp, if I can get that I'll be happy Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  22. I'd rather do stihl chainbrakes than husky, in fact stihl are pleasurable to do in contrast to the wrestle with a husky spring! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  23. Well these are the first two in many rebuilt engines! The 357 had been running all day before that popped, the 254 I had checked several times as I was worried about it happening again... But I can only chalk it down to experience, always stick with what I know and trust! Ironically the 090 is a cheap chink engine and as solid as the saw it's fitted to! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  24. I would say it's the location trench on the piston, I've never had the problem with meteor pistons or circlips Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  25. Nope! I wouldn't mind so much, but I was assured that the pistons were good, as high if not better than meteor by mike, so I chose to order from him rather than Leo in Greece, I can safely say ALL my purchases will now be from Athens! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
