  1. Your tree looks healthy to me, the seed balls ripen and the seeds fall out, it's how it works. As mentioned, the mould is actually lichen, there are millions of trees covered in different lichens all over the uk. The dying/dead branches are normal too, it's the tree shedding the less important or less productive limbs Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  2. It may sound stupid, but is it jumping off once you've replaced the cover? The end of the band does look bent out, so I'd replace it anyway Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  3. He said £18k PRE tax Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  4. C.J, brush up on your tech information! 365 (pre-x-torq) 65cc 365 special 70cc 365xt 70cc The x-torq was introduced in 2008, so unless you get one from the late 90's until 2008 it's x-torq. 6 years is a long time for non-pro saws, most will have been put away and forgotten about, or chucked in a bin. 5. Spud will be in bed with his horlicks now pressure and vac testing a strato is done same as normal, but you have to block the intake with a plate (fitted between carb and intake boot) Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  6. No real point in having anything between tbh josh, if it's too big for the 560 to double cut, it's time for a big saw, although, as I said, it's all subject to change, I've got a hyway 353 kit coming, and a 362xp on it's way, soon followed by a 375k kit Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  7. 357xp with the hyway 359 kit, ported, 15" 560xp 18" 385xp ported, 36" Although that's subject to change with the arrival of parts and another saw Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  8. That's not much round here, it's £60-70 a day! That's either trainee with 31,38,39 or groundy pay. A decent climber is £20-25k Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  9. That isn't leaf miner, leaf miner is random across the leaf, this is from tip-inwards, so it's dying back, it's probably due to the fact that through June and July we didn't really have any rain, and when we did it was run-off Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  10. .404 chain is all generally the same gauge (1.6mm) so take your pick from the different cutter types, tie straps and drive link safety features. And before niko chirps in... We don't use any other gauge for .404 in the uk! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  11. Bloody hell, the 201 and 150 handles are MUCH cheaper! Maybe Stihl is admitting that the new plastics are crap then... Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  12. The top handle is about £15 from a dealer! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  13. It all depends on what you want, the 545 will rev faster quicker, the 365 is more restricted for what it is, and relatively speaking, in terms of tech, there isn't much between the 2. Personally I'd spend the extra £50 as the 365 can be converted into a 372 with minimal modifications, plus there are much more bits you can stick onto the saw. In answer to question B, how good is your fuel mix, how much cutting do you do, how good is your maintenance? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

    Dolmar CT

Why saws seize has been covered a million times now, unless the op is 100% sure of what caused the seize, he will need to check the entire saw, although, even if he knows, he should still check the saw over due to age Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  15. The 455 rancher is a 55cc saw, so your options for betterment are: Husqvarna: 545/550xp, 555/560xp, 365/372xp Stihl: 261/271/291 362/391 Makita/dolmar I'm not sure on the models, but there are no dolmar dealers in the uk yet, so the saws (and parts) have to be shipped from Germany or USA. Personally I find the Stihls on the list gutless, heavy and slow, the huskies are good, but I would advise the non-XP models Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  16. Only 9t .325 are available on the standard spline, so make sure you factor in a few more links Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  17. It's Stihl, not husqvarna! Germans like deadlines to work to! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  18. After the APF, same as the 201 M-tronic Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  19. 9 foot is definitely a pollard! A pollard is over 6 feet in height Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  20. Bulgaria? I suppose you'll fit right in over there with your fungal knowledge It was the HLS that encouraged veteranisation pollards, and paid out a whopping £58 per tree! Hence why many farmers still don't have pollards Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

    Stihl 040

The values are: 040/041/042/048 - £200 if it's a good runner with excellent compression 044/440 - £300-350, depending on how big the bar is, and how good condition/low hours it is 046/460 - £350-400, although for £400 it would need to be exceptional, you can pick up average examples with a decent bar for around £300, and seizes for less Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

    Stihl 040

The 040/041 was listed as 25" max bar length, the saw is VERY obsolete and parts are hard to come by! If it is an AV model, it can retrofit a chainbrake (extremely rare!). Not high revving but extremely torquey. If it's an 044/440/046/460 then it's a modern-ish saw, parts are readily available, and will also sport a 25" b&c. There are also 042 and 048 models to make it more confusing if you've misheard! Aftermarket parts are available for both, and SOME genuine parts. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  23. Yes, air leak on the cylinder gasket usually, although the muffler likes to spit bolts out, creating lean mixes. Or the impulse line, that's common too! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  24. I've started a few, the one that has an annual scalp is coming along nicely, just grows like buggery now Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

Compared to the 088/880, much better design, it has a manual oiler which is very useful for milling Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
