  1. I've just noticed that the IPL is the contra S IPL, so find 1106 020 2540 on the casing inside the flywheel area and you're onto a winner, another way to tell is if the casing has a step where the cylinder mounts
  2. Just as a note, when replacing the fuel lines, replace the impulse pipe for the oil pump, oil pump itself is a pita - see parts lists! Also be warned, coil produces a 44kV spark, it f**king hurts! It can kill those ZAT spark testers too All bolts are m4 or m5 and can be swapped with Stihl torx ones if any are mullered. Is yours the super casing? Or an earlier casing?

  4. Choke pull is in the same place (assuming you mean the little blue control), as for the clip, that should be sold with the boot! You should take a leaf out of Stihl's book and sell assemblies as complete units, not crankcase assemblies with ONE oil seal!
  5. The starter rings are still available for the Fairbanks starter on the 1106 saws, and are only £10 each. The pawls may need re-pointing, but what you have to remember is, old Andreas made these things to withstand anything, these old bars are made out of the same steel as what high quality machine tools are made of! The saws themselves can be fixed with tools found in most workshops - flat-head screwdrivers, 10mm spanners and circlip pliers. Oh and profanities, lots of profanities! I dare you to replace the oil pump diaphragm!
  6. Yes, that's the correct p/n, and it will fit the 066
  7. A summary of the differences between the two are cylinder and piston, carb boot, carb, filter elbow and top cover, husky is almost as lazy as Stihl when it comes to 'improved designs' with their flippy caps.
  8. They need tapping deeper, but they're not easy to remove, I tapped in place, which meant cutting down a die handle, and cutting it with difficulty. The starter mechanism won't engage unless pulled over with some force.
  9. Could be the crap on his saw, looked like there was an additional crease running across it. As you're trying to fix it, the old type (non x-torq) casing will fit (same part, different number no doubt), but you could just plug it with some filler. On the other hand, if you choose not to fix it, I'd be interested in the flywheel and generator

No, the bent bit by the oil cap is not normal, I have owned or worked upon 346's, 357's, 362's, 365's, 372's, 385's, 394's, not a single one has had any deformation by the oil tank as normal, nor have any 2 or 5 series huskies. Maybe a stone or piece of wood has hit the front, sometimes they do ping off the chain in such a way that it could punch a hole in the tank. Whilst I've been lucky enough for that not to happen, I have had debris fly off the chain and strike me. Do you blame the manufacturer of your vehicle when you get a chip on the windscreen? Or a crack if struck in the right place! A chain running 20m/s is 45mph.
  11. That doesn't make a lot of sense niko, if it was the bar mount bolts, oil would be pissing out, not an air leak!

  13. Starter casing is easy to acquire, when you say cup, do you mean the starter ring, or actual cup? Ring is £10, cup will require a new flywheel, as they changed them on the 070/090. As for work required for mounting an 070/090 cylinder, the contra has four threaded pins which would need threading to the bottom to mount the newer cylinders. It's a pita!
  14. Did you honestly think that was warranty? You can see the impact damage from the photo you've put up, including deformation below the hole! That could (and would) happen to most saws, casings are only a few mm thick, we're long since past the bomb proof behemoths of the 60's and 70's.
  15. Bar made August 1965, early muffler, late starter (early 70's) and crankcase, carb details supplied fit with late 60's model. Side casing is mid-point version (late 60's). Lack of green tag means casing is post 1967 (super casing), whilst no s/n means it wasn't a final model. There should also be a date stamp on muffler
  16. Have you tried a 560 Geoff? Personally I wouldn't use any other 60cc saw stock!

  19. Unfortunately that one post undermines the whole petition. Aspen won't get fuel duty removed if people use it in vehicles.
  20. I've heard up to 9, though I think 6 is optimum, I like gold, don't care much for secrets, they can't buy you shiny tools!

  23. All the Corvid family are very intelligent, studies have been done on crows that build tools! All are omnivorous and will actively hunt. I have seen a pigeon taken down by two magpies, driving it towards a corner of a garden.

  25. The engine is a 2 and 4 stroke combined, so all the usual 2 stroke problems (air leak, carb, fuel, mixture) mixed in with 4-stroke problems (valve timing, valve clearance, push-rods falling off, cam wear as it's made of plastic, plus many more not yet noticed!)
