Yup, like stihl saws can only run stihl chains, bars and other stihl branded genuine products, anything else will make it seize or explode, but you must buy it all from your registered service dealer! The higher the octane rating, the more stable the fuel is, the fuel doesn't vapourise or auto combust as easily, allowing more stable running in extremely high compression and heat, the fuel contains more large-chained hydrocarbons, as it is harder to burn, it requires a hotter spark, and unless you're running over 200psi comp, produces less power due to more unburned fuel, a lower octane rated fuel burns more readily, giving more power, but in higher compression or temperatures ignites prematurely causing knocking or misfires Ironically, a fuel with high octane content has a very low octane rating (one), as octane is more commonly found in propane or butane, as the chain is very small, petrol is made of 20 carbons or more, to raise the octane of petrol, they add longer hydrocarbons such as aviation fuel People who have used diesel contaminated fuel may well find the RON in excess of 200, whilst mixing lighter fluid would drop it considerably, I can't remember the exact formula to work out a rating, but there really isn't much in the rating, no more than 30-50 degrees Celsius between 96 and 99 RON in terms of ignition point Hope this helps explain it a bit Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  16. You say about increase in power but not speed, did you raise the exhaust port much? As you used an old torque saw, the exhaust timing is quite late, meaning a longer burn time for more power and lower rpm Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  19. On my bench, the works hl75, apparently it was blunt, I've borrowed it for a job, so boss asked me to see what's wrong... Someone has got it jammed on a stick probably, and rather than work it loose, has blitzed the knackers off it, it's sheared the blade in half inside the gear box, eaten the thrust plate inside too, then smashed a hole in the gearbox housing... I keep suggesting we should have a £5 charge for borrowing tools, then I would have cash to spend on spare parts! Grrr! Or not lend the tools out to non-staff! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  21. You could, I just needed to know at which points sparked, I tried asking the arboristsite lot, and got given the technical data I already had (helpful bunch)! Anyway, I now know its when the points open, I'd never worked with points before, as the technology is a bit old fashioned for me, I tried with my local dealer, but most there know nothing about saws, let alone with points, nor are they allowed legally to work on it, as it has no chainbrake?! Climb up the centre and wallop it down, and don't be ungrateful again, I do all of my nan's garden, from the lawns, to trees, to flower beds, at my expense because grandparents will always help you when in need, and they've forgot more than you know!
