  2. Haha he certainly does! he's sat in van too.... On the same seat After last year working in the rain all summer! Then snow all winter! Ill allow myself 20 mins out of a down poor! Cutting grass in the sopping wet just makes a right ok mess Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. Haven't been climbing all that long so sorry if this isn't an industry recognised technique! I have lowered quite a few bits myself by installing a rigging line quite high, through a pinto or similar, attach the top end to limb to be lowered, then tie a directional slip knot on the opposite side of the pinto, make cut/s branch swings down, then move into a comfy position, sharp tug on lower end of the rope releases the knot and lower safely. Guess you could use a fig 8 if it was a heavy ish lump, but I think anything too heavy would make the slip knot tighten right up. Also sometimes I will cut a limb, then whilst grounder is lowering/untying I move onto the next limb to be removed, attach a sling, then attach the other end of the sling to something substantial, make cuts , then just hook it on the lowering line as hopefully groundie is ready by then! I'm sure someone will tell point out why these are bad techniques :embarrassed: but it works! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  16. Hi all! Hope everyone is well! Just a quick one really, been climbing for about a year now. Did my 30+31 late last year no worries. Climbing so much now, really want to sort out at least my 38+39. My question is, as I already climb, do I need to do the training? Or just take assessments? Wish I had just taken 30+31 assessment would have passed No worries, only part is all the reading etc that took me a day or so to memories. I'm in Berkhamsted but can travel, can anyone Recomended a good nptc assessor? would like to get both out the way In a week if possible. Just don't really want to spend the £1200 or so with training. And the way I understand it I will be shown how to tie basic knots, install a climbing line, working position, arial rescue, cutting technique whilst working from a rope and harness. Thanks everyone! 17. Looks pretty standard? The limb with holes appears to have decay, wood peckers tend to go for the softer bit ( so would I if I had to smash a hole in it with my face!) As for it falling over, again looks fairly standard.... Root plate has lifted due to soft ground thanks to the near by river? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  18. I run a connect 04 I think..... It's fantastic, never let me down! Only down side is its a bit pants on fuel Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  19. Just had the quote to replace the panel. £1051+fitting+parts!!!!!! Insurance excess is £100! And I'll be looking at a 20% increase next year. Hey ho...... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  20. Only experience I have on a conservation site was a job where trees were to be cleared/cut back for building work. T.O's word was leave the natives. As you say, I believe the only way to prevent work to a particular tree is by placing a TPO on it. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  21. Thanks again for the soothing words of wisdom! It's only held on with Allen headed bolts/screws I'm sure two of us can carefully fit it. Haha and if you we're down here be assured I would bite your hand off....may even offer you two bottles..... (Glenmorangie fan here!) Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  22. Well I was the same! It has only cracked on one side, so it's laminated for sure, looks about 2-3 layers very thick! Must be re-engorced.... Haha I think I may just let the nice glass chapy's fit it! Don't want to be paying for 2 panels Well thank you very much for setting my mind at rest! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  23. Not 100%.... Had to phone the property owner and ask if it was broken before we got there! Was either strimmer or mower. They have slate chip over raised beds and a shingle drive, so it's entirely possible some had made it's way into back lawn. Most annoying, been doing the job the same way for 2 seasons! Just bad luck I guess..... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  24. I really hope your right! This has helped me so much! Was looking at one of my "stressed business owner" no sleep nights! If its that, they can fit it! And I'll pay out myself no worries! It's a big contract and the people are lovely. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
