    Boots

I have the stein phantoms, now although its the first pair of chainsaw boots I have owned, one thing I can say is that they are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn and I've been through lots of different pairs since 2004.
  2. Did my "cs38" a couple of weeks ago and that is no longer a Cs qual, it's now set out into two units. Another thing that's changed is that it is now just pass or fail instead of having a minor/ major faults system meaning you can pass or fail either of the two seperate units
  3. Think he means it contaminates cause your making the brakes on the tractor work harder by not coupling the trailer brakes up Had a 5130 on a farm I worked on years ago, was opened up too, what a beast and such a nice sounding engine, was supprissed what it could out pull, not many mx110 and mx135's could keep up with it. Was a killer on a buckrake. Looks like you've got yourself a nice tractor there.
  4. Hey guys, new to the trade so know little about what shows are worth going to. Went to the apf this year but am I right in thinking that's only here every other year? Was wondering what shows people were heading to in 2013 and also weather many of you venture out to game fairs? If so, which ones?
  5. Had a bit of trouble in the Barnstable area years ago when working for someone else. Someone had just had a new stove fitted by a company recommended to them by the stove shop. The stove shop then told them that logs could only be burnt if of a certain moisture content (if memory serves me well they were told between 10 and 15% moisture). I don't know too much about the correct moisture content but this seems quite low moisture? Anyway, as I was unloading, the woman I was delivering to was testing every other log I chucke out for its moisture content with a moisture meter supplied at cost to her by the shop and after unloading everything she began to complain and tried to refuse to pay as the logs were to wet, I think they averaged around 20-25% moisture bearing in mind these logs had been stored in a shed i then argued and eventually got full payment but found the whole situation bang out of order. I even suggested I would load it all back up and take it away which she would not allow! Some people now a days will try and get everything for free, especially when they think your doing it for beer money on a weekend which I think most do. Best thing is to note the name and number and never deal with them again in my opinion.
  6. Exactly, don't really find it bad to work with, just a little more difficult to tie off
  7. Isn't tornado ht galvanised? I quite like ht personally, a little more difficult to work with but find it stays nice and tight for longer. Found that mild steel tends to stretch
  8. I once witnessed a man sharpening a saw like he was playing a violin, had the bar on his shoulder , not sure how affective that is haha
  9. So do I have to subscribe to get it? Or can I just look at it online or pick it up at the news agents?
  10. Haha only just noticed that
  11. Ahh okay then. In that case, what are people's thoughts on the two saws I've mentioned and are there any other small toppers I should consider?
  12. Hey guys, hopefully doing my cs39 in early January and would like a topper for it to make it easier, I also have a couple of climbing jobs in the pipe line that would benefit from a topper. My problem is I want to wait for the new husqvarna to be released but could do with one sooner than that really. Is it worth me getting a small topper such as an echo sc260tes or a makita dcs230t to get me by and then become a backup when the husqy is released or do I just save my pennies and wait till the husqy is available?
  13. Bah it's no odds to me, he wanted it so he's got it haha, been dead around 4-5 years though so it's pretty dry. Yeah no worries Gary, next time I come for a rec climb ill chuck it in the truck.
  14. Did my first take down today, the victim was a dead 30' eucalyptus measuring about 18" across at the bottom, not too far from a house. All went well and it came down as expected and finished up by cutting and splitting it all for the owner. Was also the first proper day out for the 550 and I have to say I'm really impressed with it, it's running an 18" bar and semi chain and despite everyone saying the saw isn't big enough for it...it powered through with the full bar in timber really well, never bogged down at all!! No pics of the whole tree but got one of the stem .
  15. Ill second that, you don't even know its there if you do the above
  16. Great stuff fella, pretty much the same as me although I've had 30,31 for years and passed my 38 a week ago, climbing is such a buzz, just make sure your methodical about what you do and don't loose track of where your at and you'll be fine. Keep it up fella and the best of luck to you.
  17. My first raffle with arb talk and have to say...that's a fair list of prizes!! Quite supprissed actually haha, all for a good cause though, best of luck to everyone, will be ordering mine some time tomorrow
  18. Looked at those hydraulic wedges a while back and recon I could make one from a bottle jack and a few bits of plate and a wedge shaped piece of steel, pretty simple design in my opinion.
  19. Try the halfords professional range, good quality, lifetime guarantee and on offer at the moment
  20. I have the 550 and from what I've done so far I cant fault it, it spent a little time adjusting while I was running it in but it's never skipped a beat since, great saw in my opinion. Only regret is that I got the 550 and not the 560.
  21. From early part of this year, was outside a bnb we were in when working at Linacre reservoirs in chesterfield .
  22. Haha saw this a few weeks ago, wish I had this to play with when I passed my tractor test at 16
  23. Cheers dave and hopefully haha. Very true matt, as they say, practice makes perfect!! Well done for today and best of luck with tomorrow fella, I'm sure you'll walk it sadly I have to wait to do mine but it'll come
  24. Passed the assessment today , so chuffed with my self , thanks to everyone who has shown me support, really appreciated it. Time now to get lots of hours climbing in and It's on wards and upwards now (excuse the pun) to chainsaw from ropes and harness course, the future looks bright and enjoyable ! George
