  1. Hi Tony I share your concerns about the planet, and as I work my way through A Degree the more concerned I become. Some days after studying certain things I am that bloody morose I cant even be bothered to make a brew. I think that with the farming practices of the last 60 years, we have pretty much screwed ourselfs, and If we are luky might be able to mitigat the effects if we act now, but not enough is being done.
  2. Not surprising that a lot of the hobbies involve the outdoors. Hill walking, Climbing, and war gaming. Been wanting to get into fishing for a while, but I don't know if I have the patience.
  3. Exactly, why bother paying insurance premiums if they arnt going to pay for replacing the kit that was insured?
  4. Ahh, OK, just looked like a Compact so I assumed it was the same deal. Kubota, Massey and JD compacts, but like I said, never used one myself, just seen them in the sheds, around the estates. Having said that, would a low COG mean a Low ground pressure? I know they arnt the same, but surely they would do less damage than a full size machine?
  5. Doesnt the low ground clearance get in the way? Compared to say a county? Or am I reading the pik wrong? Got a few Compacts on a few of the sites I've been working at, but used mostly by the groundsmen/ gardeners rather than ag/ forestry
  6. 26 years old and 2 1/2 years old, sounds like you've planned the kids so that you have your own baby sitters.
  7. That sounds very likely, and I'm NOT a conspiracy nut.
  8. That's scuppered the guys that buy lidl own brand, but I get all my gear from the local butchers. Smoked because I dont like the taste of salted. I know what you mean about the drying processing the meat, but I thought that could be said of all meats, you buy chopps that have been glazed etc, you dont actually buy a carcass anymore(though it would be better getting a carcass from your local farmer or even better your own small holding.) Sorry, its a pet peeve of mine that we as a society are over reliant on big supermarket chains to do everything for us.
  9. I saw a saw horse that held the chainsaw on a pivot, going for about £100, but I dont know how well made they were. Even that got the heirs on the back of my neck going, so I walked away. This thing is a bloody liability.
  10. Bacon is processed meat? Sausage and black pud are processed, but bacon cant be, Its just sliced off the pig, unless Im wrong and it is regurgitated, re constituted scrapings from the floor of the abattoir.

    Compesser

I've been thinking about getting one of those combi units that have a common engine, then add on compressor, genny, pressure washer etc. I could do with all those, but wont use them that much too justify the expense of the full petrol unit.
  12. Fair enough, I thought you meant you had a lad on an apprenticeship type scheme. I know what your saying, but the monies there to pay to get your employees trained, I'm not saying claim as much as you can, but if the money is there, and you need to provide training, it could be the difference between you breaking even or going under.
  13. If you're putting your lad through training, there's grants for that as well. It's all about getting money from the big pot mate, especially if your a small outfit.
  14. Yeah, but I bet their crops are roundup ready. Dick heads like this always come up smelling of roses.
  15. Dont kingswood do a combined CS30/31/32/38/39 Chipper & brushcutter course. £4k but even so, He might be able to get some money for a business start up grant if he doesnt have the reddies here and now.
  16. I was thinking the same, Hilux could cope with the chip but no where for tools, LR too, then I realised I could get a 130" WB Landy, Crew Cab for the tools, cargo bay for the chip. Its only a little bit shorter cargo bay than the standard LR pick up.
  17. Be nice to see the before and after, The Zubat 330 is great, I love mine. Good luck and enjoy it. Where abouts are you based?

    Cscs

Quality Assurance: LISS/CSCS Not sure if I read this right, So all you need to get a CSCS card with Arborist Worker from bali is to have done the construction skills test and have your CS tickets?
  19. Don't people think "If he is saying £4K, why do the other guys want to charge me £900, is everything above board?" anymore? I second the opinion that is she couldn't give a monkies about your safety then you shouldn't be working for her.

    Cscs

DIg around, A lot of adult education places do CSCS for free IF you sit an adult literacy and numeracy or IT, CV writing type course at the same time, might be worth it if you have a slow week in the diary. They get loads of funding for the Mundane stuff, and put the CSCS ticket in there to try and get bums on seats
  21. Owned a Zubat for about a month, it does cut faster than I thought it would but I'm tempted to get a gomtaro as strait seem more precise.
  22. Just binned my Husky ground lid and put the visor/ear def strait on my climbing helmet no bother.
  23. If I remember right, when they did try therapy the therapist ended up seeing a shrink. Crazy stuff
