  1. Recently got my first commercial insurance. Didn't realise my 15 years no claims from non comercial would not be taken into account Ended up paying £390 for new Dmax through direct choice who are agents and the cover is from Sabre
  2. I don't We need to think long and hard about future energy and low oil price will not make this happen. High oil prices will force us to other sources of energy and energy conservation.
  3. Presumed low oil prices have been arranged to put pressure on Russia If this is the case can't see much change soon.
  4. Do you think it would be easy to use sharpening a loose chain on a spare bar? Hard to sharpen processor blades in place so I do them loose on a spare bar.
  5. Just got one of these [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Olight-H15S-Wave-Head-Torch/dp/B00F9KM5YA]Olight H15S Wave Head Torch - Black - One Size: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors[/ame] Realy nice amount of light for sorting a few bits and bobs out around the yard. You can get way more power with some models but found 250 lumens more than enough for most stuff. Got a 1000 lumens beasty but it's clumsy thing to wear and not used it much since buying the Olight.
  6. Devon lanes are steep, narrow and slimey. 4x4 on road can be real handy around here.
  7. When comes to pure hard graft the Landy wins hands down but it depends on your work. Started doing a fair few miles on road with lightish loads. Don't arrive feeling like I have just done a couple of rounds with Mike Tyson just getting to site. Can see out the windscreen as the de-mist works! Don't arrive with ringing in my ears. The doors actually keep the water out. Horses for courses I guess.
  8. Looks like the nicest and simplest mechanical sharpening aid. Would have thought the edge would be better than a file due to the direction of cutting. New carbide cutters are $20 on the US site. Can't imagine postage on a few of those would set you back much.
  9. Yes I suppose that is smart when offroad.
  10. This sounds spot on for what I experience. No bother popping it into 4wd when slippy but would be really nice to have a road going low ratio for heavy towing on our Devon hills. Sadly low ratio is automatically 4wd.
  11. Sounds like I should keep using as it as I have done. Keep in 2 as much as possible and only use the 4wd as an when needed. Had a chat with a mate with a Ranger today and tackled him on the subject. Complained of the same issue and came to the same conclusion on driving style. Quote from Stubby "Yep . I understood it and its quit impressive . No mention of the regeneration cycle of the DPF then " Care to share what is impressive? Read about the DPF issues and was nervous as I do a fair few short trips but no problems with it to date.
  12. Found this Clearly not impartial but may explain to those that understand what he is on about. Lots of talk of "intelligent" and "amazing" but still not clear if it hard on the truck using 4 wheel high or low on road
  13. Anyone shed any light on using a Dmax in 4 wheel drive high or low on road. Used it off road and the steering becomes heavy and tyres tare up the ground when cornering so I presume the diff is not that smart. Is using it in 4 wheel drive going to wear out the tyres fast and put extra loads on the transmission? Sorry I am not very clued up on these things and the dealer is next to useless for mechanical questions.
  14. Congratulation Christopher An incredible effort.
  15. As Alex says the Oire-nomi are very good and I use some on a regular basis but did not suggest them. In your opening post you mention making furniture and benches this sounds to me like largish joints and Oire-nomi chisels have very short blade so not good for larger joints but great for smaller ones. Not all Oire-nomi chisels are equal. I bought a single one some years back (can't remember where from). It is a beautifully made tool that works very well. Picked up a set off APTC (I think) and they are made with far less care and needed a of lot fettling to get them working well and had to grind out almost all of the concave to get the backs flat. Don't think the steel is of the same quality either.
  16. Happy Christmas Paul. Have a good one
  17. Thats great Much better than most of the ones you see for sale and it's your first go at woodwork
  18. Oops sorry. Misread woodworms post. Think my question still stands though. Wood gets processed where I believe some of the volatiles are lost yet comes out cheaper than pellet
  19. How come it's cheaper running on biochar? Seems odd that another level of processing makes it cheaper.
  20. Been considering it but not got around to it. You look like you have sweet set up with all the toys
  21. Not good but fixable with money. My best mate just lost his mum to cancer now that is bad.
  22. Breaking my processor
  23. Own one or two but never get used. Most of my mortises are cut with a chisel mortiser and the hand chisel is only used for cleaning it up. If you are doing the whole thing with a chisel then might be worth getting some. They are clumsy tools in comparison to a bevel edge chisel so you will want some bevel edge ones anyway IMO
  24. Haha Don't think tomorrow's client would want to haul their wood to me and take the logs home.
