I think I would reduce the height by 1m to reduce the wind load. Do not leave a bare stump when pruning, just cut above a shoot or branch. No need to do anything else with the wound.

I saw a once in a life time event. I was carrying out a tree surgery job one day, and the client was with me. I saw a drone and was explaining how to distinquish a drone from a worker. Out of the blue, a queen wasp dived on the drone and raped him!!! wow. So the queen seeked the drone.

Nice looking tree - pity they didnt plant another 2 or3 in between the others to contrast against the green -
They're coming into their crankiest time of the year though, as the queen starts to expel them from the nest sck - i know the drones get kicked out this time of year as they are lazy. is it the same for the workers?

ive had to descend a tree rather sharpish due to the devil span wasps. once they were in a hollow of a willow i was felling, and once when they occupied an old magpies nest - yes got stung

Looks like a young tree which is lucky- its got age on its side. The tree should be able to cover the wound in time. If i could see the whole tree I would possibly tell you to reduce it a little to relieve wind load. Trim off the splintered wood and loose bark. I would mulch around the base of the tree too to keep its vitality as high as possible - dont cover up to the trunk and mulch to a 4 inch depth max.
