  1. If they want cheap, they'll get cheap! Easy to say don't let it get you down, but really, try not to. There's a simple 2 word phrase that the forum rules don't allow but it ends in "'em." Send them a bill for TPO ap, that was your work.
  2. Vets & doctors, barbers & hairdressers, chalk & cheese..... Just about right I'd say - like comparing apples & oranges, a bit irrelevant really. I see forestry as being like factory piecework in comparison to arb which provides a considerably more variety. Each to their own and as long as you love what you do there's no need to worry!?!
  3. I'm hanging out for "Jason, The Resurrection - The revenge of the Subby!" Comedy gold!
  4. Like OMTC said an hour ago, it's comedy GOLD!
  5. You're trailing a bait you tinker!
  6. There's been quite a lot in the news and reviews recently about zero hours contracts. And there's always plenty of debate on here about what actually constitutes a "subby." There seems to be a contradiction then. If he is a subby, you haven't sacked him, you're just not engaging his services any more. So is he (a) a subby that you use once, twice, thrice a month, or is he (b) the bloke that comes with you every day, every week and doesn't have any other work streams but you call him a subby so as to avoid PAYE & employees liability insurance? I hope it doesn't blow up on you!
  7. I can't quite decide if this whole thread is a wind-up? Seriously, if you've fired him because of the flack you attracted in this post (which is what you appear to indicate above), then you'd better keep your fingers crossed that (a) he's not reading this and (b) he's not keeping a copy for his employment tribunal. Good luck with that!
  8. Do you get this email update Huck? I get what you're saying about the tariff being set for 20 years, but this is the periodic email I get which seems to indicate that once the 'expenditure trigger point' has been reached, the tariffs get reduced. Anyone seen this: Dear stakeholder, As required by the RHI regulations we have today published the seventh quarterly forecast for the non-domestic scheme and the second for the domestic scheme. You can read the announcements in full here: Non-domestic: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/rhi-mechanism-for-budget-management-estimated-commitments Domestic: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/domestic-rhi-mechanism-for-budget-management-estimated-commitments Headlines Non-domestic: The 100% total scheme trigger has been hit. Total forecast expenditure for the non-domestic scheme is £209.1 million, this is £1.9 million above the 100% trigger for this quarter of £207.2 million. The total estimated expenditure represents the amount we anticipate we will pay out between 31 October 2014 and 30 October 2015, based on current application data. The result of this as set out in regulations is that all technologies where the forecast is above anticipated expenditure will receive an additional 5% reduction to tariffs. The small biomass tariff will be reduced by a further 10% from 1st January 2015. This is because: The 100% scheme trigger was exceeded this quarter for the first time. This applies a 5% reduction to any tariff which has exceeded its individual expenditure threshold. Small biomass has again exceeded its individual expenditure threshold or ‘trigger’ (that is, more is being spent on small biomass than expected) Following a tariff reduction of 10% in the previous quarter, forecast expenditure has grown over the last quarter by more than 50%, but less than 150% of the anticipated growth rate. This applies an additional 5% reduction. The biomethane tariff will be reduced by 10% from 1st January 2015. This is because: Biomethane has exceeded its individual technology trigger, The 100% total scheme trigger was also hit adding a further 5% to the initial 5% cut applied to a first degression to a tariff. Domestic: · The domestic biomass tariff will be reduced by 10% from 1st January 2015. This because forecast expenditure on biomass, at £5.8m, is £1.4m above its trigger of £4.2m for the quarter ending 31 October 2014. Under domestic scheme rules when a trigger is exceeded that tariff is reduced by 10%. · None of the other technologies in the domestic scheme hit their individual triggers this quarter which means no further tariff reductions will be applied. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions please email these to [email protected], marking your email (‘RHI – forecast’).” Kind regards, RHI Team The original of this email was scanned for viruses by the Government Secure Intranet virus scanning service supplied by Vodafone in partnership with Symantec. 9. Here's one of Rob's you tube vids (hope you don't mind Rob) I need to try this too!
  10. Both in hand Jon! I'm sending this from bed whilst Mrs J is in shower... No more messages tonight fella!
  11. It's 15 degrees indoors and she's STILL complaining it's cold! "Put a bloody jumper on woman, what's wrong with you" didn't go down so well! Heating on before December? Not on my watch! I will concede that having the windows open to vent off the new plaster probably isn't helping....
  12. Not much wrong with that point of view! It's way past time for review.
  13. Dhoooooh! Now there's a thread I bet you wish you hadn't bothered to start!
  14. Like your style! Written well, I bet it tastes even better! Been on Amazon scoping slow cookers today!
  15. Ever since we had a weekend beer swilling road trip with 8 blokes in a 6 berth camper, I've known without any shadow of a doubt, a toilet in a van is a VERY BAD THING!
  16. Unless it's a shed sounds reasonable, I've got an 02 plate Merc 311 LWB high roof, all kitted out similar to your description (excl thunder box - I don't want that in a van, too nasty!) 70k miles, 6 months MoT, couldn't get anywhere near wanting to part with it for 1.5k though!
  17. Between "do it for the wood" and a miiiiiiiiiillion pounds!
  18. That's the way to do it! We get all ours from friends / neighbours. Small scale, not intensive, local, money or work in return, minimal middle men, minimal transport etc etc. Almost sounds like a workable idea, kind of like the way it used to be - I wonder if it will ever catch on?
  19. Pork, sliced bramleys, root ginger, sultanas, can of cider, knob of butter... Get tucked in !
  20. Nobody actually says you "have" to have it. The customer might be sufficiently well informed to understand (or care) about the difference between someone that will "have a go" as compared to someone that can demonstrate certified training - so one part of the answer to your question is - the customer (although as we've all experienced, they are often more focussed on price rather than anything else.) So take the customer as a side issue for now, and it might be possible to argue that no one says you have to have it. So if you take that position, no one actually says you have to have it (debatable.) And that's all fine and dandy until you consider the "what ifs." (1) What if, during the dismantle (of this vaguely described defective Ash) an incident occurs that results in RIDDOR report? Answer - HSE investigation, possible prosecution and civil claim for injury / death. (2) What if, during the dismantle (of this vaguely described defective Ash) damage occurs to property? Answer - Insurance claim? Dig in your own pocket? So, whilst it might be possible to argue "where does it say I have to have X, Y, Z?" What do you think the first thing you're gonna need to demonstrate is if it all goes TU? I knew I'd regret it......
  21. I will probably regret asking this but should we assume you have up to CS 41 (as appropriate) and you've priced in a second climber who can act as groundy?
