Didn't you phone the helpline number I posted up in that other thread? I didn't find the document that states arb arisings is an eligible source but I recall that it is. Maybe Steve has the link since he's "calling in" arb arising as a fuel source. -
Felling licence and 5 cubic metre rule
kevinjohnsonmbe replied to Peat's topic in Forestry and Woodland management
I'm a bit confused by this now! If you need to apply for a licence, you have to wait until the licence is issued. No problem with that. If you remain with the ¼ly exemptions you don't need a licence. No problem with that. If you plan to apply for a licence, can you make a start, up to but not exceeding ¼ly exemption prior to receiving the licence? Or to put it another way, if you have a licence issued, can you exceed the qty of the licence condition by the amount of the ¼ly exemption? -

I'm not so well read in on the RHI when associated with log / chip drying as compared to commercial and domestic applications for providing heating and/or hot water for buildings. Does it come in on the same tariff schemes as heating/hot water for buildings? So, if you use RHI to dry logs then sell the logs to (for example) domestic log burners that don't qualify for RHI is that still an eligible process? Not sure I've worded that so as to make the question entirely clear. If you have an RHI qualifying technology which you use to dry logs then the logs are sold retail to any customer (wether using an RHI tech or not) is the drying of the logs an RHI eligible process? Hope that doesn't come across as a bone question! -
Reading too many break in / theft threads. Wondering if there are any common factors / trends / MO's that are evident across the different individual circumstances. Is it from a garden shed, a lock up garage, a unit on an industrial site / farm for example? Conscious of not giving away any individual security measures, but maybe an oversight of the type of circumstances people are being hit in might give us an indication of what is a "good" preventative situation and what might be a higher risk situation? PCC's are supposed to be all about stat's and targeted policing, maybe a collective / national intelligence lead overview (fed by the collective knowledge of AT) could provide evidence to better target prevention / prosecution??

I was going to PM this so as not to further derail the thread, but I thought discussing the (perceived) pro's & cons may serve to raise awareness and potential engagement - wether that a) proves true or b) is nonsense, only time will tell. It's difficult in a forum to communicate all the nuances of a conversation, seriously, when I said good on you and a part of me is envious, I meant just that. I take my hat off to you and I share many of the feelings / counter points you make above. It wasn't meant as an "anti" or antagonistic post, but just as there are elements and sentiments I share with you, there are elements that I find contradictory and that make me a little uneasy. Self sufficiency / self reliance / determination / resilience / responsibility etc etc.... All highly saleable / usable / necessary / diminishing skills. That's a massive plus. The bit I struggle to reconcile is when some parts of the mainstream society are dropped but others are selectively retained. When this happens it tends to be the bits that are "useful" that are retained but without the necessary trappings of "collective contribution" - paying your contribution into the big pot. I totally get when people are unhappy with the way some tax is spent - believe me, I'm one of them! But as individuals we divest that decision to the government. It ain't perfect, but what is? So when woofing (or whatever other system of egalitarian lifestyle) purports to be an evolution of people power, it fundamentally fails to recognise that by not "paying in" the practitioner is by default taking a dump on someone further down the system that maybe reliant on the missing persons contribution into the big pot. It's a dilemma, that's why part of me likes the concept, part of me doesn't.

So, is it reasonable to pay a doris to sit on her arris and answer the phone more than you might be willing to pay a grafter, out in all weather dragging brash and burning calories? A cheeky nod to the concession that the doris might be a geezer, but the same question applies..... In fact, it would probably be worse if doris was a geezer sitting in the office.

Ah, but a monkey is clearly defined! A drink isn't.... Don't spend it all at once..... Hadn't thought of that
-
That's what I can't fathom, when you say 'a drink' isn't that a tenner or a bottle of red? £80 is a session! There doesn't seem to be a scale that applies to 'a drink.' It ranges from a fiver to £100? But there's a world of difference - stopping off for a cheeky pint on the way home - fiver. Spending £100 on ale - an all dayer, a brush with the law, banned from the local, threats of divorce and spending the night in the dogs bed!

You should see his Mrs! He was well chuffed! It was an exceptional lapse in my usual 'bah humbug' attitude towards 'donations' of any kind.

PS, I've got a load of work needs doing, I'll throw in a tent and a pasty, any takers??

Well done, good on you! Question, whilst living your humble existence, did you at any time rely upon UK or reciprocal EU healthcare provision, did you qualify for any government funding - student loan, JSA etc etc, did you pay your council tax to have your (without a doubt reduced) garbage cleared, did you use a library, a bus, any local government services, public toilet, did you walk on lit streets, call upon the services of the local constabulary or fire service? Maybe you get the point, if you answered 'yes' to any of the above, you're welcome, the tax paying few were in part funding your holiday. It might be that a small part of me is envious of your personal situation (not in a way that I'd want to trade places) but I do 'get' the romantic ideal and I salute you for doing it. Trouble I have with that though is the hopelessly romantic vision doesn't really stand up to scrutiny and it's possible to see the carefree, off the grid, drop out, traveller actually as a drain on the society that is providing the platform for that chosen lifestyle.

A grands worth of work or a grands worth of profit? There's quite a difference! For a grand of profit I might bung a mate a oner - or cut him in on the work and give him the opportunity to earn a oner! Got a mate who's a chippy, he saved us 1000's on our last kitchen, gave him a monkey to say thank you. But in general, this whole 'finders fee' thing gives me the creeps, in my experience it's chancers in the pub trying it on because they are too idle to work themselves. It kind of sticks in my throat.

That's a forward thinking option!

If you were to write your autobiography....
kevinjohnsonmbe replied to Mike Dempsey's topic in The Lounge
I always chuckle when I remember a line in one of my early annual assessments (it was written in red, in capitals and underlined!) "Johnson is an enigma!" There's no doubt in my mind, that'd be the title of my autobiography! -

Ever seen a farm contractor clean up the flail debris off the road after hedge cutting? Isn't that about the same as "over the hedge into the field?" -

Are you certain that a request for consideration of making a TPO has actually been submitted to local authority? There ought to be processes in place to facilitate a fairly swift provisional order if appropriate so it may be that nobody has formally requested a TPO assessment. A call to planning dept should clarify that.
-
Could you clarify a couple of points?? "..TPOs which have been applied for..." Do you mean applications that have been submitted for consent to do works on a tree that is already subject to a TPO or that a TPO has been proposed to be enacted on a tree (s)?? "...mandatory time limit..." Again, may depend on the answer to the question above. "...many weeks for anyone to even notice a TPO application. ..." Who do you mean here? The landowner, the public or the planning department? It's difficult to work out from the "PS" if you are in favour, against or maybe even doing the work if approved. I don't suppose that's much help other than in seeking to clarify the question before considering trying to offer an opinion..... Eeeeeks!
