Is my Austrilian Cert Valid in the UK?
kevinjohnsonmbe replied to treeclimbinghaggis's topic in Training & education
All your techniques will be upside down won’t they? 👨🏻🦳➡️my (c) 🐐 -
I see your logic there J 😂 To expand upon your wife analogy.... Might I add a boiler analogy? No sense swapping out an old boiler for a more energy efficient new tech / renewable one - unless - the old boiler is knackered and near the end of its useful life already. But, if you have to swap it out as a matter of course due to unserviceability, inefficiency and general cantankerousness, then a newer, younger, more efficient and generally more pleasing model makes absolute sense and will look after you for many happy years Just for absolute clarity, I am referring to the move from a crusty old oil boiler to a newer model pellet biomass boiler rather than my own historic marital status which, whilst bearing some comparable similarities, is entirely coincidental 😂 The pellet boiler has provided 10 years loyal service so far, has provided for my domestic heating and hot water needs at a significantly lower financial demand, is kinder to the environment and has more than covered it’s installation and annual running costs through the RHI scheme. All of which pleases me greatly! The wife, of 13 years, (and 13 years my junior) has many similar qualities - like I say though - purely coincidental 😂

Side walls on they big balloon tyres looked a bit flimsy... Liking the winch + redirect arrangement though. Not sure I’d be too confident with loading on those bars off the front of a £££s truck though 🤪

Selling a piece of equipment.... charge vat or not?
kevinjohnsonmbe replied to swinny's topic in Business Management
Ideally, you should have entered it into your asset list at purchase price, claimed AIA on the purchase price and devalued it annually. The current value, as per your asset list, is what you should record as your sale price and your sale price must include VAT which you must pass on to Hector. edit! Just read Swinny’s post. Maybe I’ve got it wrong? But as Mick says, I would have thought you’d have to charge VAT - unless you get a load of scrap to weigh in and record in on asset list as the digger being written off after a mysterious fire - then sell it under the radar? -
Over charged at 395? It can only be per person and that would be a stretch. Sounds quite reasonable actually. Council took down a small Ash outside the house of wor nipper’s mate yesterday. 2 blokes - all day. It was an hour’s work for 1 man! The only way they can have been overcharged by subbies is if the subbies were working at council pace....

It’s not a piss take, it is a sound concept (if you can handle the potential hassle of having ‘unknowns’ on your patch - although that could be mitigated by going through a training provider who would / should take responsibility for the actions of their students.) Sound idea, well trodden path round these parts for landowners looking to save a buck in return for a bit of inherent hassle.

The woodsure scheme, do we need it?
kevinjohnsonmbe replied to william petts's topic in Firewood forum
Is she a babe? Niiiiiice 😂 just had the RHI newsletter, Woodsure having taken over from Gemserve as the administration of that scheme. Their latest ‘long screwdriver’ QUAnGO, self justification, money spinning scheme is to develop and impose a maintenance schedule / requirement for biomass boiler owners..... Got to pay for next years holiday and a boob job for PA somehow..... -

Phone goes off or ‘do not disturb’ when I don’t want to be disturbed. Other people have different work / life patterns or different time zones if, for example, living working overseas. They can phone / email whenever suits them and I’ll answer / respond as suits me. What I find more annoying is the: ”...I’ve been worried about this tree for years, can you come as soon as possible and look at it...” Yeah, no problem, I’ll be sure to fit it in at some point in the next couple of years.... -
Hong Kong tree trimming fatality | Vertikal.net VERTIKAL.NET A female tree worker died earlier this morning when the boom of a truck mounted platform/bucket truck suffered... Thankfully still rare in UK, the number, frequency and similarity of MEWP / BT accidents where they are more widely used seems to present more Arb aerial accident instances than climbing. Im not buying the MEWP should be the default ‘safer’ option that is presented in certain quarters. A competent climber, applying proper working practice, using kit that they them self can visually check before use as compared to climbing into a machine that the user is rarely qualified or sufficiently experienced to properly check. Does anybody actually believe or subscribe to the MEWPs position as ‘preferable’ to climbing?
-
Awesome capability! If only there was enough of that sort of accessible work to warrant the investment in the kit.... Maybe one day....

Where the original post / article states “unknowingly”, and where para 1 states “intentionally,” maybe that’s the cause of the reticence on the part of Plod? Im sticking with my Chief Constable / Freemason / shooting party member assessment though....

Marxist fundamental principles corrupted by exploitation of the gullible masses, individual and organisational dishonesty, corruption and personal greed, Who could ever have seen that coming 😂 it’s not as if every single historic example socialist/communist/Marxist doctrine has taken exactly the same path 😂😂😂 https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/police-probe-missing-bristol-black-5768567.amp

Skiing in Germany, a tutored group pulled up along side us at the start of a run. Heard one of the girls say to the tutor that she absolutely had to ease springs before the next run. He indicated a discreet spot in the trees and told her the only option was to back herself in and squat. She got in alright, started letting go fine I guess. What happened next was pure comedy gold. The tutor didn’t expressly state “take your skis off” and I can only assume she didn’t and, having felt a certain degree of relief, must have leant forward in the squat. She came outta the trees at quite a pace, salopettes around her ankles, stuck in the squat and skied off down the slope leaving a visible trail behind her. To be fair, I just about pissed myself too.... Nowt to do with the subject at hand but what can you do....

Looks like that only works with a complete baldy or a Brazilian at best? Having provided the solution to the ‘problem,’ does it naturally follow that one might insist on having a look during employment interview? Just to make sure theme properly ‘attired’ like?

I think, from memory, Ghengis Khan did - albeit not what we currently call Afghanistan which is a kind of ‘made up’ country anyway. There was a chap on LBC a day or so ago that claimed the Sikhs conquered it also but I didn’t catch his background detail. Reporting today seems to indicate that Trump signed a ‘hand over’ deal with Taliban and this is the conclusion of that deal. There have been a lot of ‘military types’ providing outraged commentary on various outlets today. I can appreciate that - people made sacrifices, some made the ultimate sacrifice, many made great personal sacrifice. That’s what the military do. But that emotion clouds the judgement. There is no way for Western military intervention to ever succeed in that region. That’s a hard reality that ‘we’ need to suck up and get a grip of. Once you grip that, and set personal emotion aside, it opens up a different way of thinking about what really has to happen. It is a widely accepted definition of insanity to keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. ‘We’ need to be out of Afghanistan. Now we are. It’s a bitter pill but that is Trump operating at a higher level than many can appreciate.

The woodsure scheme, do we need it?
kevinjohnsonmbe replied to william petts's topic in Firewood forum
It’s a can of worms 😂 which the Upper Tier Appeal Judge refused to open - much to my very evident and obvious (just short of contempt) displeasure.... Id been allowed to do ‘em over just enough to prove a point but was prevented from delivering the Coup de gras that I had my sights set on. Wouldn’t do for the “little man” to be seen to have tucked up HMRC would it 👊🏻 It might catch on..... -
The woodsure scheme, do we need it?
kevinjohnsonmbe replied to william petts's topic in Firewood forum
It wasn’t so much a problem as it was the solution (successful defence) against HMRC. I see the points being presented above but not sure a difference in process cost between 2 businesses could result in the more efficient business being charged with failing to bring a non monetary benefit to book where that benefit only arises in comparison to a less efficient business process. As much as I despise state interference, not even HMRC Nazis could pull that off.... -
I made the mistake of talking to one of their sales creeps at a trade show several years ago. Arranged for an after meet and he came to the house. He laid on all the patter about how membership was ‘essential’ for any small business. I asked him what he knew about ‘this’ business and how many small Arb businesses were subscribed. He had no idea. In fact, I don’t think he had much idea about any small business. He was just a salesman slogging his ass off trying to hit target. Lost all respect for him and FSB at that point. Several years after, I was on a job locally. I saw him stop his car and take a sneaky pic of my sign written vehicle. Dirty little sneak was still trying to grab leads. On the flip side, when we had a dispute with a builder who was a member of FSB, I contacted them to seek mediation and they could not have been less interested. (maybe that was ‘good’ for their member, but guaranteed I would would never be one) On paper, it all looks very good. In reality, it’s just another QUANGO with flash c*nts drawing high salaries off membership subs. Follow the money Alex....

What do we know about BBC reporting? If it’s a disgruntled Janner with a sawn off or an estranged father in a Spider-Man outfit or any form of Caucasian criminality..... they’ll be reporting it as quick as a flash. If, on the other hand, there is the slightest hint of a foreign name there’ll be tumbleweed and radio silence for an eternity. Just saying like, that’s the BBC for ya!

Haven’t seen her contribution yet Egger.

felling prior to planning application
kevinjohnsonmbe replied to Dendrophile's topic in Trees and the Law
I don’t Chris, it’s just a case that I only ‘talk’ about the bad experiences. It might give a certain ‘weighted’ impression but all anyone should hope for is efficiency and consistency. It’s just not human nature to comment when something happens as it should, whereas it is human nature to harp on when it doesn’t. I guess I could say I have 80% positive 20% negative experiences with LA - but that’s not all TO. It was deputy head of county planning that mugged of the scenario with application forms. No way that’s TO fault, they are not even being consulted on app’s that say “No,No.”. I’ve no doubt at all that if they were they’d be all over it. It’s a ‘system’ weakness and, in my experience, there was nobody willing to engage. Lead TO pretty much said it was a “planning” problem, planning weren’t interested. That was 1 (small) parish in 1 county where I found about a dozen app’s over 18 months that were factually wrong - multiply that up nationally and the numbers get a bit worrying. edit - just thinking on, and reflecting on today’s new task - I’m sure it also has a fair bit to do with taking on the ‘trickier’ scenarios that lend them selves more to interpretation rather than application. In my own defence, I don’t think I moan anything like as much as my architect mates do about planners 🤪
