  1. For the fear of offending everyone...
  2. I didn’t experience any of that... I had to wait longer than I wanted to for the roll-out to reach us. I genuinely like it, I’m learning a lot about appliance ‘draw’ rates, combination of appliances that draw less than PV generation and I will make behavioural changes to further optimise economies. As Beau mentioned earlier in the thread, measuring devices have been available for a while but I never got round to seeking one out. Im happy for time being. I fully expect tariffs to change with cost rise at peak demand but that sort of thing already happens with water (higher standing charge if not metered, trains - peak travel premium etc) I’ll just use those higher prices as the driver to modify my behaviour.
  3. I wouldn’t disagree with you, and I’d definitely feel the same if bill near doubled, all I’d say is, you haven’t lost out, you’ve just lost your opportunity to pay for less than you used. Look on the bright side - you were getting a big discount and now you’re back on regular rates..... (I wasn’t even convincing myself whilst writing that 😂)
  4. I would have loved that! Would have made me smile everyday 😂
  5. It is ‘unfortunate’ that legislation intended to ‘protect’ trees, bats, insert suitable example, often actually has quite the opposite effect by way of creating aversion to embrace or raise the profile for fear of overbearing officialdom and excessive financial implications. Bats are probably the best (worst?) example of this... What a mad world. As with so many circumstances, an ‘expert’ that presents options rather than barriers is the key (think H&S supervisors 😂) Our neighbour had an absolute nightmare with his barn conversion directly as a result of his engaging the ‘wrong’ kind of batman. Conversely, I had a brilliant and useful learning experience with the batman that surveyed our barn. Very pragmatic and proactive with the options rather than the barriers.
  6. I agree, it’s not so much a discussion about how it’s done, but rather why it’s done that way.
  7. Ahhh, I see the problem! You posted a pic on the tinterweb and asked for opinions - fatal! 😂 You could go full Jeremy Barrell on its ass and take the whole top off or you could go Acer Ventura and take a more measured approach. Wither way, you’ll likely get opinions at both ends of the spectrum and everything in between thus probably advancing your own decision making by something akin to moving General Melchet’s drinks cabinet 3 inches closer to Berlin. The pantomime may provide some entertainment though 😂
  8. Shortage of drivers isn’t ‘new’ news and it isn’t Brexit news either. From 2015 in the Brexit loving Guardian: Lorry driver shortage 'could put Christmas deliveries at risk' | Road transport | The Guardian WWW.GOOGLE.CO.UK Shortfall of 45,000-50,000 drivers may also harm the UK’s economic recovery, according to the Road Haulage... It’s just not new news and it’s just not Brexit news. Access to cheap Labour was a sticking plaster which allowed companies to ignore their own sustainability and resilience issues (in pursuit of profit) rather than properly train an organic workforce.
  9. UK is not short of ‘bodies’, it is short of bodies willing to work. Forget cheap EU labour, that’s gone - and good riddance. As you say, that just masked the problem and the problem is the economically inactive within the UK. A combination of making economic inactivity less ‘attractive’ and employment ‘necessary’ has the potential to set the record straight. Yes, there may be bumps along the way, and yes Remainers will doubtless continue to moan, but Brexit is the catalyst for starting on the right path rather than maintaining a self evidently damaging one.
  10. No. It’s an attempt to place the entire ‘blame’ for a long standing, multi faceted shortfall entirely upon the Brexit banner. It has no more credibility than a message on the side of a bus but there will be some that cling to it as a confirmation bias.
  11. I need to look more closely at MWh production (and when / how much is used.) Have you looked at battery storage (cost/benefit/payback term) yet?
  12. That’s an impressively low leccy bill - quite jealous! Note to self - be stricter on wife / nipper!
  13. I’m doing £70/month for leccy but drawing down about about £166/month across the year in PV tariff. Im quite keen to explore battery storage now the tech has advanced a bit.
  14. What sort of money are folks laying out on leccy? We have. £70/month DD.
  15. Holy smoke! £2.5-3k pa??? 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 You need a big stick!
  16. You’re not ‘in credit’ and ‘claiming back’ mucker. Your direct debit is set too high which has resulted in you - 1 of several million punters - ‘gifting’ your power supplier a bag of bunce. 400xseveral million is, like a lot of cash they’ve had for free! Tweak your DD so that you are just on, or just below your usage.
  17. Meh - NZ like rural Berkshire (with coast), by the time you’ve done your bungi jump, skydive, beach BBQ etc you’re ready to get home. Worth a month, not much more
  18. Agree the observations Mick. It’s interesting to see as a casual observer. Even starting pay for some not uncommon around the 27-35k mark. That’s outstripping LA TO salaries by quite some margin.
  19. Just had the 15 plate transit custom serviced, taxed & MoTd again. Every year I think - perhaps I should let it go since it only does 2.5-3k per year for past few years - 30k total. But it’s bought & paid for, handy when I need it and I genuinely don’t like buying & selling. Chatting yesterday to a friend who is aware of such market issues and is currently one of the hoards visiting Cornwall. Alongside pandemic manufacturing issues, his opinion was that late, low to mid miles, tidy vans are like hens teeth in large part due to the explosion of self employed, final mile delivery drivers. If I wanted cash for something specific I’d sell now. Bird in the hand and all that. As it is, I’ll probably keep hold and ask myself the same question next year....
  20. To what degree Mr Stubbs? I fill a cup to put in the kettle so I’m not boiling any extra.... Wife thinks it’s a bit extreme but then she doesn’t have to work up a tree in the heat.
  21. Yeah, I guess it could provide some info on life patterns but just how that would be useful / come as a surprise to anyone is hard to imagine.
  22. I’m on the way towards thinking it might be ½ worth looking at the figures to see if they justify a battery pack as part of an upgrade to the PV.
  23. Just had ours fitted. I did hear some scare stories from the moneysavingexpertdotcom (is it Martin Lewis?) website but have to say, so far, I’m well impressed. It shows cost per hour, cumulative cost per day, solar PV input, the actual impact of turning on/off any given appliance - I rather like it! It is only with this knowledge - and the potential to alter personal behaviour in relation to behaviour/cost data that we can (a) reduce personal financial penalty and (b) change the damaging, lazy and ignorant mindset that electrify is always there, very cheap and taken for granted. Can’t wait for the MiL to visit - this will freak her RIGhT out! Anyone got any experiences or thoughts to share about smart metres?
