  1. You've hit upon my main 'issue' with voluntary drop out of society type lifestyles - and I do not mean any offence by the term drop-out. I rather admire the truly self sustaining. That said, I rather despise those claim to be self sustaining and drop the 'commitment' elements of a society (like paying taxes) but still cling to the 'benefits' such as school, roads, libraries, police, NHS and the more general 'freedoms' to enjoy such a lifestyle which have been borne out of generations of sacrifice from the many. I guess it's kind of why anarchy has a certain appeal to me. Nobody pays in and nobody takes out. Everyone genuinely has to take responsibility for them self. There would be a sudden, massive reduction in the number of those that 'take' from society but provide nothing into it.
  2. I heard about this the other day: Top military chief appointed by government to lead 'far-reaching' review of NHS leadership WWW.GOOGLE.CO.UK General Sir Gordon Messenger, former vice chief of the defence staff, will lead a probe into health and social care in a bid... Talk about a poison chalice. What with a boot neck sorting out the NHS, RLC driving fuel tankers, any military with C1 licence driving ambulances in Scotland and Wales, flood relief, firefighting through strikes - hell the military even had to rescue the Olympics! Might as well go full military coup and sort the whole country out.
  3. You just doubled the rate mucker 😂
  4. Don’t get bogged down in Andy’s perceptions and comparisons with his personal ideal. Whilst not for me either, I am genuinely interested in hearing more about the set up and organisation of your scenario. Make for an interesting thread in its own right IMHO
  5. If theme not, I would be. Are you paying £15/hr? Travel & subsistence is gonna run you about £450/day though....
  6. TVI or Bolam might be interested E🍳🍳er?
  7. Are you currently towing a chipper behind the 4x4? It not, have you considered a tipping trailer instead of a truck conversion?
  8. It’s definitely an interesting scenario. Im all for non-cash transactions. I take your point about days ‘work’ v potential earning capacity for the same amount of ‘time’ but I rather doubt it’s the sort of ‘work’ that is being exchanged for rent that one might ‘normally’ associate with income earning work. I suspect a days ‘work’ might actually be clearing a drain, weeding the veg plot, fixing a fence - you know, the sort of thing any homeowner might do for their self anyway and so you might be over estimating the ‘value’ of a days work in your work v rent comparison Andy. That whole woofing thing is popular up the road here. Transients exchange a bit of graft for food and shelter but it’s not really graft - it’s more like dicking around, ½ stoned ½ pissed, tossing your life away avoiding council tax and bumming state benefits.
  9. Would £15/hr push those that are currently below the personal allowance tax threshold above it? Havent done the numbers - not that bobvererered really - wouldnt it be about right though? Here - have a pay rise.... HMRC - joinck - we’ll av that 🤣
  10. Can’t help but think we’re heading inexorably towards mass civil unrest. There is only so much the average Joe will tolerate. I don’t mean the career / lifestyle, bastard privileged socialist rebel children of middle class parents... I mean the essential, tax paying, working, small business, self employed types who are reaching the end of their patience with systemic corruption, nepotism and incompetence. A small mutiny on the Penzance - London train shows what happens when you push people too far. https://sencynews.com/passenger-mutiny-forces-packed-train-to-reverse/ The Davids can overthrow the goliaths!
  11. To take that phrase to a whole new level - what about TCB and his hideous Mrs dodging stamp duty on a swanky London Town house because it was bought through an offshore shell? Pandora papers.....
  12. What do you think would happen if you gave an idealistic, immature and irresponsible teenager a thousand pounds? Chances are, they’d piss it up the wall and forget what they were meant to do with.... Who’d be be responsible - the spotty oick or the person giving the money? Thats the Welsh NHS under Labour - bitch.
  13. Can we have before the news breaks in this thread as well? Guess what the latest military aid to the civil authorities request is.... post script - apparently the news has already broken: https://www.ambulance.wales.nhs.uk/Default.aspx?gcid=1831&lan=en Volunteers with C1 licence urgently sought for ambulance driving in Wales. Not much cop having more ambulances - it’ll just mean there are more waiting to unload at ED
  14. A timely Trump reference JD 👍🏻 Those in the sanctimonious, self righteous, holier than thou anti Trump camp might reflect on the ramblings of Russel Brand on the subject. Enjoy whilst bathing in the salty tears of neo-liberals the (Western) world over.
  15. Says the Guardian 😂 Whats interesting is that definition by skin colour is pretty much exclusively frowned upon by propagandists like the Guardian when it might show certain ‘tendencies’ are associated with notable demographics. (Unless they happen to be ‘white’ of course) Wouldn’t want to ‘unfairly’ generalise and fuel the segregation would they.... Unless.... I’d suggest rather than ‘white’ or ‘other’ they’d be better focussing on ‘internal’ and ‘external’ classifications when referencing terrorist tendencies. After all, who decides what constitutes ‘far’ right and what happens to that definition when the presumed qualifying criteria apply more accurately to groups or individuals that are non ‘white?’
  16. Agree Stubby although I don’t know forestry. Can’t imagine why it wouldn’t work - at least to some degree. Set your targets for the day - when they’re done they’re done. I used to see our postman parked up in a discreet lay-by everyday about 3 at the end of his run. I asked him once why he did it. He said if he goes back to depot before 4 they’ll give him a missed delivery run to do so he hides til 5 past 4. And you wonder why highly unionised workforces object to vehicle trackers....
  17. That's the difference between 'pricing' the job and 'doing' the job. I'll 'price' a job for a fair day. When we're 'doing' it, it's full on until it's done and that's the days work done. Usually 08:30-09:00ish on site, rare to still be there after 14:30. Everyone gets the days rate regardless and they can still get home early or do something of their own afterwards. Any fool can make a days work last a day, the pay and motivation is better if you go at it hard and get it done early.
  18. Might be worth a quick check to ensure the TPO was actually confirmed - or not.
