  1. He's got you there @trigger_andy That is the 'rub' in this whole situation.
  2. At least there was some sense of 'order' under the Empire.....😁
  3. That did make me smile Rob! 😂 It's a lot like the re-distribution of wealth issue. It's always those that advocate it applying it to those that are 'above' them in the rankings but what happens to their firmly held belief when someone 'below' them in the rankings applies the same rationale? No, no, not me Guv, it's them super rich that wants taking off. I'm conflicted on the issue. Wealth disparity is certainly a 'thing,' but who decides what the threshold is?
  4. 😂
  5. Yes, I absolutely do. That is exactly my beef with GDP as a measure of ‘success.’ It’s completely at odds with what is ‘presented’ as the ‘supposed’ aspirations of COP26, it is a vacuous and deeply flawed philosophy and it baffles me that these so-called world leaders stand up there and spout their complete shite and people seem to suck it up.
  6. No good ever came from giving some shiny ass a slice of the pie you worked hard for while they were a getting manicure.
  7. I think I get what you mean there Andy 😂 took a couple of times of reading though!
  8. I don’t mean any offence to anyone that might have gone through fertility treatment here - but how is it even possible to publicly fund medical intervention to increase population when most reasonable folk recognise over population as a problem. Similarly, the whole Catholic Church anti contraception stance thing which I think was mentioned earlier. But that is actually a good example (of the bad practice) of birth rate being weaponised as a means to retain and increase organisational power and influence.
  9. Is that the bench mark for wealth redistribution then? Yacht owners? But only big yacht owners? Whats the £s figure tripline then? If you own a yacht over 2mil? What about someone with 150mil personal wealth but no yacht? Leave them be? And then we have to think about who goes on the list for deportation to sub Saharan Africa? I think you said anyone that is still swimming against the tide... Who’s writing the tide tables then? What happens if your tide tables are different to mine? Everyone who toes your line is OK and anyone that doesn’t is on the boat? Isnt that a bit tyrannical and an affront to just about every established civilised norm? If only we all just thought the same eh.... Hey wait! North Korea, “People’s Democratic Republic” (oh the irony) of China.... Is that the model you are espousing?
  10. Not so much a ‘conspiracy’ rather a reflection on the obvious reality. Economic ‘health’ is measured by GDP, GDP is generated through economic activity, you need population growth to sustain economic growth. The problem is the apparent unwillingness of just about everyone to acknowledge that GDP is the root of the problem rather than the solution. So it’s not so much a conspiracy theory based upon tax - tax is just a byproduct of GDP. Consumption is the symptom, population the cause and GDP is a flawed measure of success.
  11. So we’re actually not that far apart in what ‘needs’ to happen (to properly reduce emissions) - just perhaps slightly different ideas about how to get there. I mean, I’d possibly agree that certain attributes might qualify one for ‘the list’ - pretty sure we’d differ on what those qualifying attributes might be though 😂
  12. I’d venture to suggest, somewhat in line with Hairychest’s (presumed) thinking that even the most pious and zealous advocates of immediate, whole scale, global change, and the whiny little c*nts like Greta, don’t actually have the constitution for the only viable ‘solution’ to the problem that they are virtue signalling. If - “if” - the cataclysm is genuinely imminent then the only feasible solution is the immediate recognition that certain areas of the planet are already incapable of sustaining human life. That birth control is implemented in areas that still are viable / tenable. That absolute barriers are established to prevent the movement of people. But - with economies tied to GDP and GDP dependent upon extraction, manufacture and consumption and consumption dependant upon population, the inevitable global conflict following the economic crash and population control will inevitably bring about the demise quicker than the theoretical impact of climate change. Bit like Covid really - we may come to realise that the cure is worse than the disease
  13. Bit of a tenuous link but the apparent potential for an Israeli new canal alternative to Suez has been strangely absent from ‘news.’ It was examined in the 60’s (I think) and involved nuclear bombs to blast a new channel. Post recent Suez blockage it seems to have re-emerged as a contender. Maybe related to Trump’s movement of US embassy to Jerusalem and certain Arab states recognising the state of Israel for the first time - all just coincidental isolated events? I wouldn’t have thought so. So, for all the hot air at COP26, the big plans may actually be to increase global trade route capacity and versatility. Can’t see how facilitating consumption ‘fits’ in an apparent desire to reduce CO2. Unless it is all just smoke and mirrors of course....
  14. Don’t despair Peds, you’re not necessarily talking to the wrong people. I simply highlighted the absurdity of that part of the post which referred to something between nothing and catastrophe sometime between the day before yesterday and some time in the future. It’s akin to stating I might win the lottery between tonight or 20 years time and it might be somewhere between a pound and a million pounds - a statement like that ain’t gonna generate any enthusiasm to rush out and buy a ticket today.
  15. That’s some pretty ‘tight’ scientific analysis! 🤨
  16. Are you a Facebook user Debbie? If so, the FB page shown in attached pic may give you access to a more targeted regional group. Maybe worth a try.
  17. ..... in the name of the Chamaecyparis “law”-soniana.... perhaps? 🌲
  18. True 😂 A couple of big houses backing onto it - it would have been a good buy for one of them. Maybe the one that has let their garden bamboo spread across the boundary got it. A bit of road side Ash to address too.
  19. Just closed at 61k (plus the fees) Would have been a reasonable buy at around 40 but 61 is a bit rich 🤑
  20. Anyone on here bidding? I did a site report for a bidder. 15 mins to run and just passed reserve https://app.bambooauctions.com/property/amenity-woodland-at-crapstone-5448700
  21. Has there been any COP26 chatter anywhere else on the site that I may have missed? Or is it just such a terminally dull PR stunt for the talking heads that it is unworthy of AT bandwidth?? Am I : (a) correct in thinking Boris tied UK financial contribution to climate change amelioration directly to UK GDP? (b) alone in thinking it is patently BIZARRE to link financial aid to climate change to GDP when GDP is defined by expansion, manufacturing and consumption - EXACTLY the elements of human behaviour which are driving climate change.... Is this politicians making a balls up again or is it just a demonstration of my obvious ignorance?
  22. There is a bit of a middle ground - albeit not perfect. As ever, “layers” of overlapping / complimentary systems are a good approach. I like solar PIR for convenience and when cleverly placed can illuminate areas covered by CCTV. As you say - no silver bullet and cheap PIR solar lights are cheap because they are made by 7 year Chinese peasant children and then shipped across the ocean!
  23. It’s a bit of a tangent - but still makes me smile... Had a 5 day exemption on a TPO’d tree - stuck it in, checked it had been received, checked again day 5 to see if TO had responded - tumbleweed. It was probably around day 8 (the Monday following expiration of 5 days on the Friday) when we were on task that the phone rang. It was the TO saying he was nearby and asking if I had a contact number and address for the homeowner. My reply “... can you hear chainsaws? Just follow that noise...!” A brief ‘discussion’ ensued whereby he sought to challenge the validity of the exemption but that was easily batted off as subjective.
  24. It’s a process designed by civil servants to entirely satisfy the gravy train of non-jobs and unaccountability for civil servants! 🤯
  25. If it has not been TPOd, 6 weeks and a day after the submission of a valid s211 notice, It shall be a defence for a person charged with an offence under subsection (1) to prove— (a)that he served notice of his intention to do the act in question (with sufficient particulars to identify the tree) on the local planning authority in whose area the tree is or was situated;
