  1. I did pause a minute to think - I wonder if that's a new member making a genuine post - but even so, it still would have warranted a "Rodney, you plonker" comment. In that brief moment of soul searching Treequip slipped in with a kidney punch and it since seems Mr Bullman has discovered the truth! Oh, dear, not a good use of advertising budget.....
  2. Was the number engaged when you rang it??
  3. That sounds like rocket fuel pre-dilution! Home brew - another activity I'm looking forward to having a try when time permits! 🏠🍺🍻🍷= less 💷💰💷 for HMRC
  4. Off the original question a bit, but what about pollards? If faced with pollards in a proposed development area for example, would it still be valid to calculate RPA from stem diameter and table D1? Or might that be a case of digging exploratory pits to check the spread of the root mass and then presenting "a soundly based arboricultural assessment of likely root distribution"?
  5. Gotcha! Didn't realise there was a second parallel thread! Now it makes sense where the "extension" angle came from! 👍
  6. Unless I'm still addled, there isn't an "OP's other post." The only mention of an "extension" appears, since there is no mention of it from the OP, to be an assumption in post 3. It's been a good insight into differing view points, the technical and legislative position juxtaposed with the reality of living with trees in the urban environment, the (perceived) householder's desire compared to the "doing" position of the contractor and the "in theory" or "ideal world" position of the TO/LA. The biggest giggle (often the way) is that the OP threw the hand grenade and has since retired to watch the fireworks!
  7. Can't recall make but I have them in sets of 3 on all 4 corners of the roof rack (to achieve 360 like Bob says above) That site arb monkey mentioned looks pretty solid to me I'd had a good look on there before.
  8. Defo, "buy cheap buy twice", had to replace (at dealer expense) my so-called 100% waterproof all-rounders shortly after initial fit. Never been 100% happy since and it's time for an upgrade/replace now. Let us know if you find a good product!
  9. That's been a dozen or so quality posts, made for good reading! 👍
  10. All too difficult and controversial for a 5 year term government to even want to effectively address. For the sake of the country & the NHS surely a cross party committee should be devolved responsibility for a long term plan?
  11. Don't fight it Mick! I'll try not to do it again!! :thumbup1:
  12. Understood Richie, it was a situation that I'd been given to understand might be the case but I had no personal knowledge from which to draw any conclusions. Brother of a mate is planning to resign, sell up, move to Portugal and come back for a fraction of the work time on agency and make as much as he was busting his nuts on long shifts etc. I get your point about the obvious need for more full time permanent staff. Short term agency staff to fill unforeseen deficiencies is perhaps much more understandable than long term reliance to back fill permanent staff deficiencies. There is a striking similarity here though, and perhaps the public are being misled about the demon status of self employed agency staff being on a higher day rate than a PAYE employee. It's not possible to compare "like for like" as Adam has described in his essay on the virtues of the employed over the self employed. Employed staff cost considerably more through their capitation rate than they actually see in their pay packet. I've been pondering this situation for a while, maybe an FOI to the local NHS trust would show how many agency are also full time PAYE. I guess my beef is not with the NHS but with the way it is used and abused by politics and the press to further specific political aims. It's the misinformation that grips me most. Well that, and some of the people that we've seen whilst in hospital that seem to think it's a hotel rather than a health service. We have always left a card and chocolates for the team when we've left, and without exception been eternally grateful for the service we've received. Bless 'em.
  13. I don't know the answer to this, but I have a couple of friends / acquaintances that support the notion through personal experience. I've no desire to bash the NHS, we've had our share of superb service from angels, but there seems to be a total aversion in political circles (understandable) but also general conversation to any comment that infers any criticism of the NHS. I have a question, maybe someone with more first hand knowledge will be able to answer better than the minor / anecdotal information I have. If the current "demon" is agency staff servicing NHS gaps through recruitment agencies, how many of those "demon agency staff" are actually full time NHS employees utilising their union ring fenced, public sector luxury "rest days" to earn maybe twice as much doing the same job (when they should be resting) through agency work? I know several that do, and get paid royally for it. Are we actually going to discover that the so preciously guarded terms and conditions are actually just a pith take? (like the fire service holding down second jobs during generous off watch time.) I genuinely hope someone "in the know" can say this is not the case.
  14. It looks like a relatively compact garden, street behind and the roof features visible in the distance don't tend to suggest recent development on that side of the road. Is the garden / house which is impacted by the tree a recent development where the tree was TPO'd as a consequence of the development? A large tree, already considered to be too big for it's environment and causing distress to the owner (assumed from the comments of the OP.) It would be interesting to know the history of when / why the TPO was initiated. That great well used phrase "amenity value" probably doesn't carry much weight with the home owner and outright refusal to grant some form of amelioration will probably result in the ultimate demise / loss of the tree (by fair means or foul) at the point where the home owner finds their life blighted by the tree or they become frustrated by what might be perceived as local government intransigence. Be interested to know more about the TPO.
  15. Be good to see as it comes along if you can post some pics 👍
  16. Lynher Training might be worth a look if you venture this far down! They are in Gunnislake.
  17. Good idea of the day? I thought, it's been a while since I took the top off the septic tank.... I now remember why I don't do it often!
  18. There must be a link back to the "europe - in or out" thread here.... The Defender - classic, unsurpassed in it's class, iconic and a piece of what made Britain great. Production must cease because it no longer meets EU regs......
  19. That made me chuckle!! Sounds like a mare but funny in the re-telling!
